The Eve game masters told me straight up that scamming other players is allowed. I feel it's not only allowed, its encouraged. Only MMORPG in the world with that attitude that I know of. Here is the quote..

Hello,
Due to the sandbox nature of EVE, as a game designed around player-created conflict, acts of piracy, warfare, extortion, non-consensual pvp, ganking, scamming and theft are not seen as exploits by the developers of EVE Online, as the opportunity to do so is built into the game mechanics. Players are encouraged to make use of in-game methods such as diplomacy, force or relocation to try to stand up to CODE. I would also like to encourage you to visit the forums, since there you will be able to find people who, just like you, are unhappy with this issue and, maybe, together you will be able to come up with a way to fight it. You can login to the forums here:"
Eve is a GAME, people play to have fun and relax. In my opinion to ok player harrassment is a really poor business decision. But to actually allow and encourage scamming is unthinkable. You Isk may not be real money, but it represents real time out of your life that you have dedicated to it. Shame on Eve. There is deffinately a way to fight it, by dropping subscriptions.

You are right that most victims of a scam are careless or not paying attention. But as a paid subscriber, I think we have a right to expect protection from harassers, scammers, or anyone who is making to ruin someone else's honest fun gameplay.
Just my opinion, I know it doesn't seem to be the majority opinion around here.

Just my opinion, I know it doesn't seem to be the majority opinion around here. There are rules against harassment in EVE and they are enforced. But yes, what may be considered harassment in other games may not be so in EVE. Still those are the rules and you accepted them when you started to play the game.
It is always a good idea, to inform oneself beforehand about the nature of the game and the community one is about to join.
There can be no doubt, that EVE players will scam you, blow you up, try to extort you and kick your sandcastle over whenever possible. In EVE all that is part of the fun you are talking about. Now you have to decide, whether it is indeed what you consider fun or not. If it is, you will find that EVE has a great, friendly but certainly very creative community.

OP and any other new players check out this link from Eve University.
http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Scams_in_EVE_Online
The Uni is a great place to go and learn about the game. You will find yourself less subject to griefers and harassment by being part of a group. Plus you can turn it into game content by getting some bros together and go kick some butt in return. |

I'm not so sure it's the scam thing that irks people. If I were to guess, the "survey on ur scam/gank", the gleeful blog post, and generally the... delight that the community piles ontop of the scam, that pisses people off.
You have legions, LEGIONS of players who espouse the idea that "internet spaceships in internet spaceship game", but egads do they push as hard as possible to engender a real life emotion out of other players.
Like everything human, it isn't the mechanic (or the existence of the mechanic) so much as it is what's done with it. |

I sell stuff all the time quickly in local when I wanna move it quickly and not wait around with active sell orders. Just read the contracts before you accept them if it's a contract. I just put it on market cheaper than anyone else and post my item in local to direct them to the market and it usually gets snapped up in a few seconds or a minute. |

The not thing that bothers me about scmming is the spam. Go ahead qnd post the three fake orders and the scam order. Good now let other people talk/trade normally. They dont need to repost that stuff 10 times a second and just flood the window with a scam that's not fooling anyone. If i didn't fall for it two seconds ago im falling for it two seconds from now. Stop posting the contracts. So I end up reporting and blocking them mostly. |

I would like to get Scammed like my Ex once did. She made me fall in love with her, we got a flat together & then she was gone. True story, still waiting to get Scammed in EVE online so i can feel the deep pain of the knife in my back.
The only time i felt such pain was this one time, when i turned into a kill mail when i first started out. Gate camp.. full speed ahead guns at the ready, scrammed, scanned bubbled dead, is the only scam in the game that keeps me on my tippy toes. True story, my ship went to Val Halla & my corpse well thats another story
Yus a gate camp is a scam, because the gate already planned for such a trap "cough" , the honey pot on the other side is like a addiction.
EVEBoard ...Just over 50million skill points, each skill was chosen for a reason. I closed my eyes & clicked another skill to train... "BINGO...!!!" ... "This time i got something usefull"

I found it best to just close local in the trade hubs. Blocking was a waste of time. Reporting legit scams just wastes other's time. People must fall for that stuff though otherwise the trade hub local in Jita would not be a constant flow of such drivel. It all seems to be the same old scam stuff repeated. |

First of all the OP is in idiot twice, once for falling for such a click fast contract scam and the second for initially not detailing it when making his troll post. The scam you fell for is perfectly legit because the player used greed and stupidity to condition people to fall for it. You only have yourself to blame for it.
In terms of other scams people can complain if the mechanics facilitate the scams, and there are a number like that, the courier contract scam with high collateral to a Citadel which is closed is the most evident one, there is no counter except for refusing to do any courier contracts involving citadels which is how I would deal with it.
But complaining about a scam like this to make a dumb point...

This thread is worth it for this one post.
What you have to understand is that Eve is a game that is based on conflict including some personal conflict, the question of harassment against your characters it totally fine, it is when it goes against the player to drive them out of the game that it becomes an issue, please try to understand the difference. CODE is one big windup against CCP and that is fine, they use the mechanics to their advantage, fly cheap fast warping ships, use surprise etc., you can get in their way if you want to and I suggest that you have a look at the Anti-Ganking channel to see how, but it is low reward and difficult which is one of the things they rely on. The question is do you have it in you to at least get a couple of blows in on them even if it is rather pointless and that is how you should look at it.
When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.
