Yeah we all know the old "PC > Mac you n00bs" argument, but since I do a lot of digital photography and art a Mac is best for that line of work. And since I can't afford to keep upgrading me old PC I'm getting rid of it, well only if macs can run eve. Now I wasn't sure but I thought I read somewhere that there was a Mac compatible client coming out soon. Is this true or am I just dreaming.. again.. ?

really? since when? tbh you get a hell of a good PC for the same ú as a Mac, I doubt that the mac can match it for anything.

At least you CAN upgrade your PC.... <-----------> Keiron: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=427556&page=2

Thats the point.. don't WANT to upgrade so I can save my money. I mean, Macs just seem to run nicer with that software and generally don't need top of the range to run fast or smoothly. Then again, I ain't dismissing PCs at all. They both have their uses * * * *

There's a thread somewhere about getting EVE to run on Crossover, so it is possible.

You can run Windows on a Mac thesedays using Bootcamp or Parallels, therefore you can run Eve on a Mac, just not natively under Mac OS X. I believe CCP have stated before that they have no plans to make a native Mac OS X client (I'm not 100% certain on this, might have imagined it).

Apparantly there is an upcoming CIDER port of EVE for OSX coming soonÖ (the summer according to a blog?) which I am waiting for with baited breath. And yes the new macs can run eve; if you use Bootcamp to dual boot with windows. I do it now on my intel iMac. Its not pretty but Windows does work... you just feel dirty having a microsoft petition.

You dont happen to be running an intel processor do you?
Might be able to dual boot into windows.
If not you could look into running linux. Not sure how well it runs in fleet, or teh uberlagtastic missions, but its something to look into.

Best way is to run Bootcamp (if your Mac has an Intel processor) and run Eve on the XP/Vista partition.
I've seen this for myself and it's as good as any PC install I've seen. The only niggle is the one button mac mouse but thats easily overcome too.
At the moment, Eve does not run natively on a Mac.

I am of the strong opinion that this is a misconception brought forth by the (very)early mac being better at art/graphics/music than the early PC's. While this may have been true in the early 90's, it is no longer the case. As an example, for about 2 years I worked for a tech support contractor working with various adobe programs (pagemaker, photoshop, illustrator, etc). On my desk I had a Mac and PC, with all the same software installed on both. I spent 8-10 hours a day, 4-5 days a week using the software on both mac and PC, and I tried to find something the mac could do better, and came up short. The only thing I could find was that the mac software had a slightly (and i mean very minor) more intuitive interface, nothing that cause any serious benefit to workflow or quality of the end result. And to be honest, that 1 button mouse on the G3 more than offset any slight benefit of the UI (I know you can put any 3-button scrollydoodad USB mouse on the Mac, thats beside the point).
Anyway, since my point is now made, I heard that there is a really real mac version in the pipe... But then again it is coming 'soon'... -=^=-

MacWorld Link
Been promised, though it probably ended up in the same place as the Win Mobile client we were told was in the pipes. I wouldn't hold your breath.
Works great in bootcamp, as been mentioned.

Its already possible, in a triumvirate of ways: Bootcamp, CrossOver and Wine. Atleast the first two as definitely, the last one might do and is free, but I don't know anyone whos tested it on a mac yet.
Google any of those three for your answers. --------

This section of the forums has a lot of information regarding this stuff: Tech section
CCP has indicated they are supporting the linux and mac side, and their marketing guy made specific mention of clients for both, but the 3-4 week timeframe for these clients has come.....and gone, so "soon(tm)" is alive and well.
Keep in mind that we are still on a lower tier though. Working or not, EVE-VOICE doesn't function even though the game does. So if you want to hear the dev chats mentioned in the Info portal dev blogs....yer outta luck. (as of this writing anyway.)

Only problem of going OS X for Eve is that Ventrillo for OS X afaik still doesn't support many codecs, and if the vent server your corp is using isn't supported, you're ****** BIG Lottery |
