Edited by: Marcus Dreddlin on 19/04/2007 15:28:28 We are not a corporation. We are not an alliance. What we propose is a loose federation of pilots, looking to make their way in this universe through cooperation and solidarity. Those that have come before us are stronger, yes. Some of them were once as we are, and some of them once walked the path of righteousness. But they have become what they once fought.
Every day we hear stories of the weak oppressed by the strong. Every day those who wish to build are denigrated by those who plunder and take by force what we have built with our hard work! How can this be countered? Only together can we stand against them.
The Sons of Earth offers haven to any and all pilots seeking the protection of a new concept in alliances - a spacer's union. We will accept members of any group or corporation. We can only be strong by banding together. With cooperation and solidarity even the weak can stand against the forces of those who seek total domination in all spheres of life in EVE.
The Sons of Earth will offer assistance if you are under attack. We will drive away those who seek to grief you. We will provide convoys of protection for industrial operations. We will actively seek out the warlords and pirates, and bring to a halt their unjust ways.
We don't want your ISK. We want your allegiance. And we offer you our strength - the strength of numbers - in return. Consider what it would be like to have the ability to make the call for help and see your fellow Sons of Earth, coming to your assistance in a thunderous wave, irrespective of corporate or racial ties. Are you a Son of Earth? Then you are our brother. And we will help you.
To those who have for so long reigned in terror and despotism, beware - the Sons of Earth are coming. THE SONS OF EARTH

Edited by: Marcus Dreddlin on 19/04/2007 16:28:36 The concept of the sons of earth is simple - it is not an alliance but a set of beliefs and principles.
One - thieving, ganking, pirating, harassing, and bullying are wrong.
Two - many people do this mean and evil stuff because they can currently get away with it, especially if their targets are noobs.
Three - however, if everyone who agrees that these activities are wrong were to band together and act against these behaviors and those who carry them out, then they could act effectively.
The Sons of Earth are an organization like the Sisters of Eve. It is a set of principles, a set of core values and beliefs. If that noob over there getting ganked is your brother, you don't have to know who he is to want to help him. Take a few minutes out of your day to fight for what is right and act on what you believe in.
We are all sons of earth. Those of us with principles have strength in numbers.
Alone, if someone swipes your ore from your jetcan, you can run or fight. But if you are a Son of Earth, you simply send out the call to your brothers. Irrespective of race, corporation, group or gang, they will respond. Together, we are strong. Would you take a few minutes out of your daily Eve activities to help a friend in trouble? I would. So then the ore thief and our brother are on our local. We warp in, tens of us, hundreds of us - and destroy the thief. Then, we carry on our way.
We can secure Eve for even the most insignificant new pilot - but only if we are willing to act together. Will you rise to this challenge?

Edited by: Marcus Dreddlin on 19/04/2007 16:42:32 They can kill us, they can destroy our ships and take our resources - but they cannot defeat an idea.
I don't care what corporation you are in, what type of ship or what skills you have, I don't care who your enemies or friends are - I don't need to know you. If I look in your eyes and see there that you share the values, beliefs and principles that I do, then you are a Son of Earth.
How long will we sit back while our brothers are persecuted by the powerful and corrupt? The time has come to take action. Will you rise to the challenge? Put aside your personal concerns for just a moment, and strike a blow for your fellow man? When the call comes, will you answer?
The pirates, bullies and griefers are strong, yes. But we will will crush them beneath a wave of righteousness - a wave of the sons of earth, coming to defend, not their victim alone but what he stands for, what we believe in - the principles of justice and righteousness.
They cannot stand against us as long as we stand together, united only by our beliefs, our shared principles, our common humanity.

Edited by: Marcus Dreddlin on 19/04/2007 18:16:36 Good question.
When the Sons of Earth are everywhere, word can travel quickly. For instance, I can message several people that I know, when I see an injustice in progress, and then engage the wrongdoer myself. Each of the people I message will communicate with others, and as well others who have observed the unjust act will do the same. We don't need to know one another, but we will fight alongside one another. Some may wish to await the arrival of others, this will depend on readiness, experience and ability. In this way, we can act as one.

Eventually, the reaction will become spontaneous - everyone in an area, upon observing an attack, will respond together without the need for coordination - we will all know that our brothers will be at our side.

This is generally what happens when a 3 man gang finds a capital ship. Except you're doing it to pirates. And odds are they're going to kill you or get away by the time your PVP untrained disorganised sons can get there :/
Also, recruitment.

Alright, a quick addendum - the way you're putting it forward implies recruitment.
If the thread was semi-neutral, say "What would people think about forming a federation of solo pilots to work together? Would that be cool?" versus "Join my organization, TSOE, and we'll beat up griefers", you might have a valid point. But the way it is phrased at least implies recruitment.

Did either of you read the entire thing or just a bit of it?
Recruitment is asking someone to join a corporation or group. I am asking people to act together as a brotherhood against griefers and bullies, to stand up for what they believe in. I am a visionary, not a recruiter. Open your mind.

Edited by: Marcus Dreddlin on 19/04/2007 18:30:39 OOC: And I can't be recruiting because the organization is a concept - I don't have an organization yet. Just the concept. If people buy into the concept and start following up on it it may become some sort of a loose federation or organization I guess, but really it's just a series of beliefs and people following up on what they believe in, that I hope they will refer to as SOE...

Sakura, are you new? Have you experienced these sorts of problems? Do you think something like this could help? Newbs need some way of defending themselves against people who have been playing a lot longer and who get drunk on the power of pushing their weight around...

To Marcathonas:
The strength is in numbers, not in organization.
We have cheap ships but we all carry weapons. And we know how to lock a target and orbit and fire.
Bullies will be overconfident and come alone or in few numbers. They may be more skilled and better equipped, but even if we were to destroy one of their ships, it will have cost them much more than it has cost us - and we will have taught them a lesson. That we as the citizens of Eve will no longer stand by as our brothers are mistreated and killed. We will no longer tolerate them.
The most steeled pirate will run when faced with tens, even hundreds of angry Sons bearing down on them - bullies are, after all, cowards.

TBH I've been wondering how long it would take before someone in the Eve community implemented this idea.
Although I think FairTrade Union beat you to it.
Its kinda like Privateers in reverse for carebears.
The concept : A virtual alliance, taking advantage of NPC corp immunity to war, using things like screenshot of wallet to implement taxes, ie they take %10 of your profits for each month, if you make no profit you dont pay, so this encourages you to reinvest in yourself to avoid paying taxes, like if you made 30 mil you might go buy 30 mil worth of stuff to avoid paying 3 mil in taxes, thereby increasing your earning potential by having more stock to resell, or better gear for more production, etc.
The current corp tax system discourages productivity. You know if you go out and rat for a couple hours, your corp makes a cut, in return most corps offer nothing, you're basically a sharecropper paying a % of your earnings for the right to live on a piece of 0.0, thats why these spaces are so hotly contested, whoever controls them basically has a printing press for isk.

Check my age in-game and it should answer your question. I experienced these problems in my newb months but I learned how to adapt to them and protect myself on my own merits, and while your concept isn't bad, it creates an environment where newbs rely on the help of others rather than their own skills to defend themselves.

I don't want anybody's ISK. if people wish to reward others who help them, they should pass it forward and help others. If we help one another, we all profit because we will give each other opportunity to profit.

Easy to say once you've passed through the difficult times Sakura. And even experienced people have been griefed into quitting this game by relentless troublemakers. The fact is the basic premise of the game is to help one another and cooperate - why not take that one step further and form an alliance of mutual vision - then even when we are strong we are still together, and the strong are merely better able to help the weak.
Selfishness and foolish self-reliance won't help you. We can only be strong together.

I look back at those times with pride, I helped myself out of the ditch that is inexperience and smile at the effort it took. Add to the fact that imo, you don't get griefed 9 times out of 10, you let yourself get griefed - mine ore and jet it into space without any security, fly blindly into lowsec without scouting yourself first or fitting travel setups, let yourself get pirated in lowsec while peacefully ratting away. To be honest, its a matter of being smart and not lazy, the only thing I'd give credence to as griefing is wardecs against newbie corps, and even that is able to be dealt with.
The strong should teach the weak how to help themselves.

Well what would stop them would be a relentless wave of angry people who want that sort of behavior to stop... People who are tired of the bullying and the ganking. We don't need to know one another to have common cause. Some of us are weak, but together we are strong. And some of us are strong.

Edited by: Marcus Dreddlin on 19/04/2007 19:06:27 So you are saying that the weak deserve to be oppressed?
The Sons of Earth give people a chance to grow, and as well allow us to strike back against injustice as a group that are tired of the pillagers and the wreckers. Yes, they call us "carebears." As if wanting to be productive and actually working at growth were something of which we should be ashamed.
Those who don't wish to be part of this don't have to be. But if they are not, there will be no-one left to help them once BoB or any other huge and corrupt alliance gets strong enough to control all of 0.0 space...

You don't know how griefers work do you? If I was in their place, I'd smile at the thought of a lot of newbie cruisers and frigates coming to try and gank me, more targets to shoot. They'd probably bring friends to share the fun with, especially if you kept bringing it.

There's no shame in wanting to be peaceful and mind your own business. Its when you expect others to respect your decisions that you encounter the problems you have - and btw, I will contract you a free interceptor the day BoB controls all of 0.0, it will never happen from where I'm standing.
