Thank you much for explaining the terms. For a while there I just had to go with the real world interpretation for POS until someone described player owned starbases. Really helpful.

Yeah, I was doing the same thing. I knew what a POS was, just no idea what it stood for.

Battleship should be BB not BS since thats the military designation. I understand that BB is oftain used for blackbirds, but BS is already taken by another common word in the english language.

BB makes no sence. Besides, it's pointles to try and change an abbrevation that already exists.

MLU = Mining Laser Upgrade
BB/BS: Psh, who cares, we're not playing a naval sim. BS developed in the context of Eve, and has little connection to naval designations. I'm not flaming (intentionally) but as Gadawan mentioned, eeeeveryone uses BS as battleship acronym, for good reason, and it's not going to change. This is a guide to understanding Eve lingo, not to promulgating the correct usage of such terms. I know where you're coming from, but things are a bit confusing as is. Leave it be i say Besides, BB = Blackbird, nuf said.
I've heard HIC, HACtors, and Hictors used to refer to Heavy Interdictors. We'll settle on a single acronym sooner or later i spose.

I think he is trying to tell people that BB means Battleship in the real world, and since every other ship uses Navy abbriviation - the battleships should too.
EDIT: Removed rant about idiocy -----------

Not abbreviations but common terms.
Cap - capital ships, dread(naught)s, carriers
Super caps - Motherships and Titans
Hot drop - the act of dropping capitals or supercaps on a target, generally one without capital support of its own. Similar to blobbing and ganking.
Blob/Blobbing - similar to gank, essentially the act of overwhelming the target with huge numbers.
Sentries - sentry guns place on gates and stations
Scram(med) - warp scrambler. Also, being warp scrambled.
Jammer - ECM modules that break the target ships lock. Also a ship specialising in ECM
Spider or Spider Tanking - A tactic used whereby ships use remote armour or shield reps/transfers to keep each other alive.
Podded - being podkilled.
Ransom - an act performed in PvP whereby one pilot agrees to pay the other a set amount of ISK to allow his/her ship or pod to escape. Can be initiated by either party.
Lofty - scam using war target mechanics to gank mission runners. Named for the pilot who made it (in)famous
Rat - an NPC
Pirate -
Carebear - A character who generally avoids PvP and pursues industry or mission running, etc.
Outlaw - a character who has reached a security status of -5.0 or lower. This character can now be fired upon on site anywhere in the game without fear on CONCORD or sentry gun intervention.
NBSI - Not Blue Shoot It. Policy used by space holding entities meaning if you are not set blue to them, you'll be fired on.
NRDS - Not Red Don't Shoot. Sort of self explanitory and the opposite of NBSI. ______

a can is just that, a can in space Long lasting ones like GSC's (giant secure containers) that you need to "anchor" and will remain in space, and jettison containers that only lasts for a short while and contains stuff you just jettisoned from your ships cargo hold
can flipping is getting someone to flag for pvp for you, by tricking them into taking stuff from a container you just jettisoned, or similar.
Kiting is flying away from an enemy, while making it follow you. Generally to get an advantage in battle
