If EVE were purely a PvPers paradise, then why did CCP put into EVE: astroids, mining lasers, barge, exhumers, blueprints, minerals, moons, industrial ships, etc?
Why didn't they just sey up the NPC stations with everything all the PvPers need, and not just do away with all the other non PvP related things in the begining?
And why are they pursuing walking in stations? That has nothing to do with blowing other players up.
Hmm, could it because EVE is not strickly a PvP game? Could be it be that there are plenty of other games out that do focus more on PvP? Counter Strike comes to mind, along with a plethora of games that are more PvP.
And if so, why are we getting deluged with so many players thinking EVE is a PvP game? Its more, much more then just PvP. Is it just that these new players are to narrow minded, and shallow to see how much more there is to EVE, then simply shooting things up?
I'm sure to get plenty of flames and shallow responces from the PvPers, and certain Alliance members that think that just because the game mechanics support, they think its right. And though in real life one can steal an old ladys purse, but that doesn't make it right either.

Edited by: Merick Dronome on 23/04/2007 04:00:49 If all that other stuff is carebear, why leave it in a Primarily PvP game, its a waste of time and resources then, right? Wouldn't want all that carebear stuff cramping you PvPers style, now would we?
I mean, it would same massively on resources if EVE were just one big arena, do away with Jita, and regions, and all the other crap. Make it just one big killing fest, that should make the 10% of players who think EVE is a PvP game happy, and the other 90% of us carebears can just go find some other game to play. Oh wait, if us carebears leave, you wouldn't have any industrials or barges to blow up and hail yourselves the PvP champions of EVE. Your Signature exceeds the max filesize limit of 24,000 bytes. But my experience with real PvP games consist of some players, with guns, and generally the more skilled player comes out the victor. EVE doesn't depend on a persons real skills, he who has the largest blob of ships wins, and in pretty much every 'PvP' experience I've had, It a gang of thugs, vs. 1 indy of barge. A person real skills have nothing what so ever to do with how the victor is determined. Your Signature exceeds the max filesize limit of 24,000 bytes. Mail us if you have questions -Eldo |

Edited by: Wrayeth on 23/04/2007 04:16:01 Why do we have asteroids, mining lasers, barges, blueprints, and the like? Simple: to support PvP and give it meaning. Without the player economy and the need to buy player-created (and thus supply-limited) items, PvP would not have the meaning it does currently.
Plus, the market and manufacturing are other forms of PvP - price wars, trading, etc. -Wrayeth "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!" |

Seriously Eve is alot about PVP. There are a lot of Player Vs Player things to do, that don't result in pew pew and explosions, which is what most people see PvP as being.
The market is a really good example of this, I often sell things though sell orders, ships that i build and other assort things i get in missions. I always check the market and then determin a price that will undercut as many people as i can while still getting a really good price for my item.
This is a player vs player action, it would be roughly equal to me shooting somebody else and killing them. Somebody then chooses to undercut my price would be roughly equal to him shooting and killing me. I'm sure there are some people out there that won't like that little comparison, but like i said its a little rough.
Mining can also be considered a PvP activity, though I'm sure some will scoff at the idea, but if a roid field re-spawns on a tuesday, and i log on tuesday and start mining and happen to get all the good stuff, any other players that come to that roid field miss out.
In marketing I can beat another player by getting a sale. In mining i can beat other characters to the good roids. These are pvp actions they just don't have the ship to ship confrontation that pew pewing has.

Something to fight over. Simply that.
If Eve didn't have something for the other players, or resources for them to use, then the pvp in eve wouldn't be as epic as it is sometimes.
There's something to fight over here, not just words and rankings.

Edited by: Apollyon X on 23/04/2007 04:29:16 Ive heard this said before but PvP doesnt just mean players killing other players. Theres Player versus player action in almost everything we do.
You have to compete against other people on the market, constantly having to underbid others to sell your stuff. Or putting a bid on an auction. You got to find the good moons and ores to mine before anyone else. You got to move stuff faster or find the best trading routes before others for maximum profitability. Player killing is just a part of the whole PvP experience.
Station walking sounds purely cosmetic atm, but this could change in the future.
EDIT; oops ninja posted but yea some other people got the same idea

Thats nice you can go and do that, but most people so far in this threat have already agreed that Eve is very much a PVP game, just not always in the for of pew pew.
So while yes any quote you find I'm sure will be entertaining its not strickly speaking necessary.
PvP DOES NOT only equal pew pew. It would however be interesting to see a graph of what age people are that say pew pew is PvP and that there is no other form of it and those who say its not the only form of PvP

There's PvP in EVE? You mean some of you are real???
Quote: If EVE were purely a PvPers paradise, then why did CCP put into EVE: astroids, mining lasers, barge, exhumers, blueprints, minerals, moons, industrial ships, etc?
So that players can all coexist happily in a big, peaceful, loving, groovy spacehippy fest. If we fought amongst ourselves, we wouldn't stand a chance against those scary Serpentis NPCs, now would we? * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

There just messing with your mind!
Honestly, I believe Eve in every way is a PvP game. Industry is PvP, either you sell your goods or someone else does. Manufacture is PvP, either you occupy those build slots or someone else does. Mining is PvP, either you mine those minerals or someone else does! And so on....
And then you have on a multilateral level..... everything in the game goes towards building stuff for combat PvP. THIS GAME IS PVP. Its just a matter of perception. * * * http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euZ0j7vtKEQ

I'm rather convinced now that you dont know what you're talking about.
The great thing about EVE is that it allows so much freedom to do whatever you like. And a big part of that is to shoot and kill, or drive out of the market whoever you like.

I'm sorry but skill > blob's . Even the way people agressively fight over price's on the market's is pvp, competing for the trade run's, undercutting, thinking ahead. If you think pvp only involve's pilot's actually shooting at each other, your way behind mate.
And by the way, with ignorant comment's like 'I'm sure to get plenty of flames and shallow responces from the PvPers, and certain Alliance members that think that just because the game mechanics support, they think its right. And though in real life one can steal an old ladys purse, but that doesn't make it right either. ' , of course u will get flamed, you're sayng you are right and anything certan people who you look down upon say is wrong. Pure ignorance

Gather a fleet and bring it down to Curse. Say something nasty to an Outbreak pilot in local. Then you'll see that the PvP aspects of this game can be just as complex as those that aren't combat orientated.
The beauty of EVE is that it's a PvE and PvP game rolled into one Universe. You need to understand both to truly succeed.
