The thing that is important is why would you post this with an alt?
1. On accident 2. Too lazy to switch the char thing to the main. 3. On purpose
On purpose is because of a cost benefit analysis. Would it cost me more to post on my main or on my alt? Would it benefit me more to post on my main or my alt?
Do people post stupid things on their alts? Sure (ibtl posts etc.). Do people post those same things with their mains? Sure they do. Not everyone weighs things the same way. It's the same reason people don't talk crap to their bosses every time they want to. They don't want to get fired (cost) even though they would get satisfaction (benefit) out of sticking it to their boss. On here people might talk about things regarding the alliance they're in, the corp their in, their personal opinions on people that are close to them. If you want to call weighing costs and benefits cowardice then I would have to say every person on here is a coward.
Every person on here has talked about weighing costs (looking like a douche bag and ruining their reputation or getting in trouble with people) compared to benefits (satisfaction for sticking up for what you believe in and have to say etc.).
I do not think people can argue that there are not times or situations where it is better to not let people know who is saying it but still say it none the less.

You actually ment to post on your main so there is nothing wrong in this situation

Please be just a little bit more lazy and dont post at all.

3. On purpose
Well other then when its regarding highly sensetive information there is really no reason to post with an alt, im intrested in the mindset behind this behaviour tho..
The reason i dont talk crap to my boss is not because im affraid to lose my job, its because i dont like to talk crap, i'd rather have a decent discussion then call my boss names wich gets me fired.
I dont mind if people post with alts, but if your not willing to backup your word with everything that you have within this community then you have a problem.

rather than just repeating "but why post it with an alt?" over and over, can you think of a single reason why people should be forced to always post with their 'main'?

eh? what are you talking about?
i'll always defend my opinion to the hilt, but how does 'everything i have within this community', by which i assume you mean the ships i fly in-game, the contents of my in-game wallet and any other in-game bizzle, have any relevance to general forum chit chat?
Are you a roleplayer? are you roleplaying now? otherwise i think you're taking your involvement with Eve Online to a slightly unhealthy level.
Q: My opinions on Coco-pops are a little extreme for most people. They just can't handle them. does this mean i should take to eve-mailing and KoSing anybody who can't comprehend the all-consuming inferno of the passionate love i feel for coco-pops?
A: NO! That would be ******* mental!

You have to be able to think for yourself (mostly) Infact, come on, someone try and take me out, just look for this name but make sure you tell me it's because of this thread before I die (i'll be easy, i'm a lover not a fighter)

I'll try to bottom line this. Of course some may disagree so feel free to post with your ALT if you do .
Posting with an ALT:
Makes no difference when discussing non-personal topics. E.G. Is the Dominix overpowered? Ideas for nerfing NOS. Amarr need a buff. Etc.
Posting with a main/alt here make NO difference. Judge the post, not the poster. If you do not buy this think of all the posts YOU have made (whoever you are). If you changed the name on the post would your ideas expressed instantly lose meaning?
Posting with a Main:
Important when discussing personal issues or corp/alliance issues and you mean to speak on your or the corp/alliance's behalf.
Also important if you feel the need to personally attack a forum poster. If you want to say fighting words you should have the stones to back it up and hiding behind an ALT makes your threat literally meaningless and the poster a spineless numptie.
You can see some of the distinctions made above in the CAOD forums as they are expressly meant to be an in-game forum thread. What you say there is meant to reflect on you and corp/alliance in-game.
Sadly there are dopes who take losing an argument on the forum perosnally and will war dec/grief you just because they dislike what you say. Happened to me not so long ago. Simple discussion on secure cans and mining ships of all things and the thread starter took HUGE exception to anyone who disagreed. It mattered not how well you presented your points and that you were non-confrontational. The OP took disagreement as a personal affront and ranted how he would war dec me (and a few others) for having the temerity to not toe-the-line with him.
Personally I couldn't care less if the dope wanted to war dec me but why should my mates be inflicted with a war dec because I posted about Giant Secure Cans? Seriously stupid but those people are out there.
If you are buried deep in 0.0 behind some major alliance you may find such issues unworthy but for many it is a legitimate concern.
