Exactly one year ago CCP introduced a new "Incarna" camera. There have been many stories lies why to change the old camera for a new one. Let's see what we have during this year.
- Custom tracking position - not implemented.
- X, Y axes has a different sensitivity - no changes, no fixes.
- Ship deviations from center is not optimized. The ship successfully continues to hide behind the pinned windows and HUD dashboard.
- Zooming still not linear, and not responsive.
- Useless undocking animation - So much time was wasted in vain!
- Dynamic Center Offset, Dynamic FOV, and Useless undocking animation combined into single option. Another stupid decision. Only CCP can combine 3 absolutely different feature into one.
That's why I called new camera "Incarna". It seems we get Custom tracking position and other fixes only after WIS appearance. It means NEVERGäó. This year has shown that the old code was much better than the new one. CCP, I can say only one thing. It's amazing, all this dev teams and you make a piece of cr+ñp like this.

While this thread is likely to get locked I feel inclined to post in it anyway.
I have really tried to like the new camera, i do like the offset of the target for the tracking camera but after a few minutes of using it I always end up having to turn it off again. Its just too sticky. When its enabled you have to manually move the camera after undocking/jumping to get tracking to work properly and its just obnoxious feeling. I also really dislike the way it bounces around when selecting different targets from overview instead of just shifting smoothly and directly to the next target the way the old camera did. If that could be smoothed out and the stickyness of the "cinematic" effects were to be fixed I might actually be able to leave some of the options enabled, alas they dont seem too concerned with improving an element of the game that is so fundamental to functionality so one must simply live w it. I understand a need for new camera code but it was done sooo half ass. Sorry but true.
Ps Did I forget to mention the nonpersistant fov settings... yea, that sucks too.

I've gotten quite used to the new camera. I started using it as soon as it was available for beta testing, just like I did with their beta scan window, so that I was used to it by the time it was live. I don't really have any issues with the camera as it stands right now.

Of course not. No one has played EVE since ccp killed it off by changing the font.

"used to it" is not the same as "better" or even "as good as". You could get used to the smell of an open sewer, or eating Icelandic food. That doesn't make it not-bad.

Glad it's working for you but a lot of players have issues with it that have been pointed out over the last year. Your in a better position to bring it to the attention of the right people than we are...besides, it's not like were asking for a complete rewrite of the game...we just want a few features added that were left out of this supposedly superior camera. |

So if you guys had to pick, what is the most important feature that you feel is missing from the new camera that existed on the old one?

For me...custom tracking position. Clicking on a target in the overview and having the camera smoothly spin around to a point on screen that I select, not snap around sharply to center screen, blocked by my ship like it is currently. |

People have written many times about issues of the new camera. And still nothing is fixed and not all old features implemented into the game. But we have cool undock animation And the worst thing that during this year, we have received no response from the CCP devteam. A year of complete silence! How do they plan to improve the work of this piece of .....?

agree with Charley Varrick Custom tracking position is most important.

For me, it's the sluggish feel to it. It's most obvious when you sit in a citadel with the outside view and try to go from zoomed all the way in to literally any other zoom level. That sluggishness is everywhere, just most noticeable there. Granted, that's probably not the most important thing but I don't do anything important in EVE any more. Small things like the camera (but not just the camera) have been chipping away at the fun of EVE for a while now, making it easier to just not bother logging in.

Seeing as I didnt play much under the old camera, I can say the new one isnt that bad. But I also spend a great deal of time in tactical because it gives me the situational awareness I like to have. |

Exactly this! The new cam feels so clunky when you try to track something because it turns so fast and the target is always behind your ship. It takes away from your situational awareness.

I'm quoting you since you said it first. This is something I ask to have back everythromycin few months. It made my camera a hell of a lot easier to focus and track things. Now my camera is semi-sentient and does whatever the hell it feels like sometimes, new camera on or off. |

I would also like more zoom in power, and for the orbit camera to remember its position when you jump through a gate. I currently have to press the orbit camera button twice after every jump to get the camera back to being behind my ship.

It's nice that you like the new camera, but I will have to totally disagree with you on all points made by other commenters here. This "new" camera you speak so highly of is a train wreck and many many MANY players have complained to no end, and in fact you all just completely ignore the ON GOING issues yet today we have.
I have tried and tried to deal with it in ways that would work for me but to know avail. The old camera was by far MUCH BETTER than what we have now, I have spoken. |

(Excuse my rough english please.) Definitely, custom tracking position, additionally to custom camera center (still in game), was excellent combination of settings. What i like now is autotracking shortcut (Shift+C), but what i am bit sick of, is that tracking is only - partially - usable with dynamic camera on, otherwise tracked target is succesfully hidden behind your ship. "Partially" because ship position with dynamic camera is so extremely excentered, that when you zoom in to finally be able to see some details of your ship, it's already out of field of view. What i also don't understand, is why ship in warp (dynamic camera on, tracking off) moves half way out of FOV, from rear you can even see your ship's "interior" due to camera/ship model collision (for example on Talos or Noctis). What i also like on new camera, is that double click on "orbit camera" locks it, facing ahead. But i found it only accidentally (didn't see any reference to this function, not even in shortcuts), and i miss ability to toggle it. |

I'm utterly astonished that you have to ask.
All you need do is look through the relevant feedback threads and note the number of times the words "custom tracking position" occur and you will have your answer. |

the only thing that is missing is the custom tracking positioning with the orbital cam...
Cam Bobbing Dynamic FOV Changes and other Options you can just DEACTIVATE in the Graphics Panel
Also, the little slider for "smoother" or "sticky" Camera Panning is AWESOME...just move it 20% to the right and if feels Way Way more responsive.
If you really never looked into the Available Options, and complain here using the default Camera Presets...well,...no words*
The only thing left...Custom Tracking Position like we had before.
I always placed the Tracking Camere a bit over my Ships, only a little bit...which made decloaking everything using CLoak/MWDCycle a lot easier. Now its difficult to see the model after the Cam snaps in and your Ship is in the middle-centered...well at least with the orbital Camera.
So yes, CCP Please, Custom Tracking Cam Position for EVERYONE ! |
