Hi CCP,
I have not found any specific newbro feedback thread, so I created this one. I am returned player, started to play in 2010. Now I wanted to test how it looks like when you create a new character from a scratch.
First, I downloaded an installer from a Stream. It was really small, only 45 Mb. I started it and while I was creating a new character, it downloaded some stuff. I thought I can dive into the game instantly once I log in.
I was horribly wrong.
After a splash movie (successfully skipped) I saw a black screen with a load animation. Not a load bar. Not a load log. Just a spinning circle at the corner of a screen and flashing ribbon.
I waited. I thought the game freezed, but, by chance, I saw my Wi-Fi adapter worked. I like the old way of indicating like "Loading stuff N/M".
I have 1 Mbyte/sec effective download speed, and I waited about 3 to 5 minutes until character creation screen appeared.
This is insane waiting time. If I would a new player, I would rather quit and forget about eve. Half-Life 2 start screen loads faster than eve character editor. I know this is Download On Demand thing, but it's too long.
Then I appeared in a space and started to follow a tutorial. That was (and is) the only vital way to start the game without any help. Now it has a sound, but I can not skip NPC monologues! Holy cow, I looked for a cross or context menu - nothing. I can not skip a wall of text in 2017! Why?
Apart from that, working with Aura is quite convenient. If I finish the task it will skip playing of a speech clip and mark the task as completed. However, sometimes it does not work. I was granted a Rifter, that I immediately assembled. That did not trigger any task completion, so I had to repackage it, assemble, board Reaper, unboard Reaper, board Rifter to continue the sequence. I would like to avoid unnecessary actions in this case. |

But half life 2 is like 20 years old, linear, and looks like poop. Of course it loads faster.
You could load Pac man faster than you could load eve, that's not saying much lol. |

Have you ever played World of Tanks? This is not an excessive loading time...
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

You could have avoided the loading time entirely by downloading ahead of time... you could also just have a better internet connection. The alternative for CCP is to expend a lot of time and effort to make their character editor, which has received so much praise from inside the game and without, *look worse* so you can spend less time downloading, or they can leave it as is.
Also you can skip the dialogue in the tutorials, you just need to either complete the task the officer is talking about or hit the x on the pop up window with the person in it.
Though personally even if you couldn't skip it I wouldn't be terribly opposed since this is mainly aimed at new players, and having people start Eve with no clue what they're doing because they didn't listen to instructions seems like a poor idea... |

If you don't have the patience or attention span to listen to some dialogue during the 30 minute or so NPE tutorial, then I shudder to think about how bad you are going to be at paying attention and following instructions in a fleet. That was a decent download speed like 10 years ago. Nowadays you don't want any less than 40 MBit/s really.
I know what I'm talking about, since I've been stuck with 384 Kbit/s until early 2013 and went right up to 50 MBit/s back then. Downloading game patches took literally 2-3 days before that.
With your speed you'll definitely need to download all game data before starting to play
As to the tutorial: There are some issues, sure. There always are. It's still way better than anything before.

I have 50mb download and barely noticed the game download. I was actually impressed with how small the game is. As someone above says you should try World of Tanks. Or a modern graffic heavy game like Battlefield. I don't think you should blame Eve for your slow down load speeds. |

He did say 1 megabyte a second, not megabit. If your phone has 4g, of course it's much better than that, in fact 4g will thrash the pants off of most connections here in Aus (where we have absolutely atrocious internet, made worse by politicians who's infighting ended up giving us a half-assed fibre program).
I agree regarding the skipping of Aura and the wall of text, including the issues with completing a task if you're too fast for the tutorial to keep up.

Good. Anyone who can't sit and wait for a few minutes is not going to last long with Eve. Probably best to stick with CoD or some other game that requires a low attention-span.
