I play for shorter sessions, so I've been strictly solo in EvE so far. With that in mind, I'm now nearing the end of skills that help me run L4 missions better, and I'm about ready to start skilling into some new ship types. Here's a list of what I'm considering. I'd like to get some opinions of what would be the most fun/useful for a player who solos all the time:
1 - Interceptor: So I could travel wherever I want, including null, with some decent degree of survivability. Of course, I have no idea what I'd do when I get there ;)
2 - Covert Ops: Similar reasoning to the Interceptors
3 - T3 destroyer: The "mode" concept seems pretty cool, so I thought this might be a fun ship to skill into
4 - Blockade Runner: Some of the same benefits as Covert Ops, but with the ability to move stuff as well. When I don't think I'll have time for security missions, I'll run a few L4 distro missions, and I hate having to turn down the ones that go to low sec.
5 - Garmur/Daredevil: I'd like to start doing some of the burner missions, and these get mentioned as good ships for that. Of course, most of those builds revolve around gunnery skills, and I'm all missiles so far, so there'd be a decent amount of skilling for this plan.
6 - Pirate battleships: For what I've been doing, but better ships for it.
7 - Marauder: Same as Pirate battleships (better at doing L4 security missions), but even longer training time
8 - T3 cruisers: I really like the idea of a super flexible ship that can pull off some pretty nifty stuff. Lots of training time for this one, too.
Happy to hear all opinions!
Thanks,

1. For fast travel in high-sec invest in a Leopard shuttle or Hecate tactical destroyer. The Hecate also doubles as a mission runner for Cargo, Anomaly and Recon. The Hecate is virtually impossible to catch with the right fit. 2. For null-sec, you'll want a T3 strategic cruiser with an interdiction nullifier and covert ops. 3. See 1. 4. I like the Impel and Prorator. Train both. The Impel has a 60k m3 fleet hangar and a fast travel fit still has 60k EHP. Great for hauling salvage, ammunition and deploying Citadels. Also doubles for some storyline missions. 5. Garmur as you can run all the Team Burners. 6. Machariel is great for blitzing - not great for clearing. 7. Marauder, Marauder, Marauder. Definitely Marauders. My personal preference is the Blaster Kronos. 8. See no 2.

Personally I like Inties for travel. With Low sec travel you may hit a SB BS every so often and if for for instawarp/tank you are just about unkillable. An Ares gets to 1.8 sec Warp with 3 Istabs and with the rigs for Hypers and the Mids for a MWD/Shield tank you can happily get over 6K ehp.
They are also cheap enough to not really care about unlike T3 (Cost + Skill loss) or Leopards (easy to kill if you are not careful) |

I'd suggest burners you will pick up the skills for many other things on the way, ceptors/cov ops easy train from there, and all those t3ds use those skills. Just branching off into guns is a good idea as it will open up a ton of ships. A ton of eve pvp is done in frigs so the burner skills give a ton of access to stuff.
Pirate BS are nice, bit more damage speeds things up. Mach is a great blitz ship, nightmare is great vs anything weak to em/therm, barghest is pretty sweet, rattler does a ton of dps but has other issues. However it might make sense to do burners first, try adapting blitzing tactics to your current ships first. Gaining some dps or warp speed from a pirate bs will speed things up but if you could have learned a few burner missions instead that could be a bigger advantage.
Marauders imo are probably a bit too specialized for now. When it comes to missions there isn't really anything I need a marauder for. They are certainly nice, but overkill.
blockade runners are great, I have several alts that can use them and do all my ammo/loot runs with them. Fit for warp speed and align time they are pretty similar to ceptors, and can carry a bunch of loot. but for now I'd probably focus more on offensive skills, can always use courier contracts to get stuff moved.
t3cs I don't have much love for, if you join a pvp corp that goes roaming in them well that is something else, but for my solo use I don't use them.

T3Cs are pretty nice for high sec exploration if you ever want to try that.
Burner stuff... sure. I guess if you're doing L4s that's a solid option.
The most versatile thing on your list though? BRs. They're just insanely handy to have around. They warp fast, cloak, align quickly, carry as much as you need for most purposes.... Love them. DSTs are ok too. |

Wow, lots of good responses already, thanks!
Right now I'm leaning towards BR training first, and then the burner ships. That should keep me busy (skill-wise) for at least a month or two.
After that, hard to say, but these responses will be a big help in deciding.

You mean the ORE industrial.

I have read this in several places, and it is definitely on my list. Just not the "next" thing to skill into, since it will take so long. And, I have the Noctis already, in the meantime :) |

Ah, no skill injectors for me. Don't generate enough ISK in game, and not going to pour any cash into it. It'll happen when it happens :) |

I'm a bit of an SP purist. Say no to injectors kids.
I feel that it devalues the SP I already have and seems like cheating. I don't care if other people do it though, I just like playing eve on hard mode. |
