Will CCP ever release a salvage ship, or medium/large tractor beams with T2 variants, or a salvager T2? Because salvaging lvl. 4 missions suck when you have several groups of ships each 100+km away from eachother.

Well in most cases you can travel further away from those groups and once you hit 150km just select a wreck and warp to it. This won't work in pockets where "natural phenomenon" makes it impossible to warp though.

Edited by: system crashes on 25/04/2007 16:36:40 I always use a separate salvage ship.
I actually managed to fit a cormorant (caldari destroyer) with a 10MN afterburner, plus 2 tractors and 2 salvagers. With the 10MN afterburner, you can get up to pretty decent speeds. Since it's a salvage ship only, it doesn't need any further modules...

When I am running missions in empire I use a dedicated salvage ship. I have settled on a harbinger, as it has 8 highslots, and a large enough hold to carry the good loot as well as the salvage. When doing the mission I bookmark all the 'rooms' so that I can come back later with the harbinger with a MWD and move around quickly to the areas of wrecks. -=^=-

I would like to see a ship like the miner with bonuses to salvaging I use the cormarant with named AB and speed gang bonuses, but to get a incerase in the ammount I salvage I have to put salvage tackles which reduces speed I also need a cargo expander so I don't leave a few mil. in loot behind I want to see a ship overall it's a slow process in a lvl. 4 mission and a salvager T2 large tractor beams and a salvage ship would help. Besides wouldn't anyone consider salvaging a profession?

I like using the Catalyst as a dedicated salvage platform. Three low slots allow fitting one of each of the speed & agility modules (overdrive, inertial stabilizer, nanofiber) and two mid slots with an afterburner and MWD - all for quicker travel between wrecks. -----

I use a Drake as a dedicated salvager. 8 high slots so I can fit 4 tractors + 4 salvagers, MWD and/or AB (obviously can't be used at the same time) in the mids, and cargo expanders in the low slots give me around 750m3 of cargo space, which is usually ample for most lvl3 or lvl4 missions (apart from lvl4 drone missions which take 2 trips).

I'm Gallente so I use a destroyer (Catalyst) for the 8 highs, 4 tractor & 4 salvagers. Mids are 10MW AB II & Cap Recharger. Lows 2 x T2 Expanders and a 24% recharger (salvaging with a burner permanently on gobbles cap). This setup runs at 470 M/Sec which means you don't outrun the tractor beams (500 M/Sec). 650M2 Cargo space.
For L4s with lots of loot, I use a cruiser (Exqueror). Similar set up except 2 x Tractor & 2 x Salvager with 1100M2 cargo space. -- Rgds Mike WWW.Dead-Fish.com Deep Sea Daddies... |

I have found that if you buy the arbitrator.... fit it with T2 overdrive .. 2 salvage rigs .. 2 salvagers .. 1 or 2 tractor beams... 2 T2 cargobay expanders.. a Drone Durability rig .. T2 Afterburner and a 10mn micro warp drive .. you can get speeds of up to 1400m/s and also salvage within 25 seconds.. this for me .. makes a very effective salvage vessel... try it out... cost me bout 20mill to produce but i have made it back in salvage.

atm i use a destroyer for lev4 loot and salvage, dragging my can behind me, and then go get a tech1 hauler ship to do pickup. This seems very inadequate. Perhaps a ship that is tech2 in nature, gives me the hislots of a destroyer and the cargobay of a tier1 hauler. The average lev4 mission loot/salvage is a wee over 1000m3, and that is praying you pull no metal scraps. Large tractor beams would be nice, maybe giving us a longer range on them. Doing away with metal scraps would help too.

The Salvage Drones skill exists - when we get the drones to match it will probably solve a lot of the issues.
Loot Collecting Drones would round out the mix. I could then salvage on completion of a mission with my Myrmidon (providing I don't need too many spare comabt drones). Catalyst. 5 salvagers, 3 tractors. 10MN AB II, cap recharger 1 cargo expander, 2 nanofiber
It can hit about 1km/s to get to the far-off wrecks. If the cargo bay fills, I drag a can around and leave the extra in a single location for each room, then come back with a hauler.
