No, disagree with almost everything you've said. I ogle my ships all the time both in space as I fly about and in stations when I should be fitting them or doing other more productive things because they look cool (well most of them do) I buy faction ships cause they look cool (and have cool mods) and I'm an older gamer who should know better than to spend half his free time playing a game. Game play is extremely important, however.
Please notice the part where I said 'A lot of overlap' (recommend Reading trained to 5).... The world is not black and white, there is a lot of shades in-between.
The question I answered was why so many people were against WIS. There certainly is a large group that IS against it. Just because YOU doesn't fit the GENERAL pattern I described doesn't make it invalid. You can NOT disprove something which is a general characterisation by finding ONE example that doesn't fit. Because it IS a general characterisation, there WILL be people not fitting the picture. Overall though, I think it is fairly accurate.
To put it bluntly: Simple people are easily woo'ed by shiny graphics. Thinking people don't really case, they want content that challenges them!

i like the idea of stns, cos brutors will walk around with quotes striaght out of pulp fiction
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness............And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you
then proceed to pew pew headz on teh floorz

Originally by: Rangkai I think walking in stations will be great. I spend a good deal of time in stations buying and selling stuff, or sometimes just chatting when I am too busy multitasking with work stuff to be able to devote my full attention to combat. So this will add a new dimension to things and be fun.
[Offtopic] All I can think now is people just sat on a corp sofa snoring/drooling while their owners are afk __________________________

Here a thought Don't dock.
Hmm. I suppose it's a variation on the old 'don't like pvp? don't undock!" forum mantra.
i feel sorry for the poor souls who don't like PvP or ambulation, destined to spend their entire Eve time staring at the character selection screen unable to face either walking around the station on glorious 3d, or having to actually fight another ship in teh cruel vacuum of space.
won't somebody think of the carebears? :(

Because it will result in idiots doing emotes all the time like in all the other crap mmo's.

I reckon there should be a /dance emote. It should cause two big guards to show up and throw you out the nearest airlock.

I have played WoW for almost 3 years and I can tell you issues get resolved faster in Eve then in WoW. WoW has unusable skills, eye stabbing disbalance, and critical bugs that hang around for months, some for years. Additional content is what sells the game. Eve needs content to survive, and new content is sweet. And you cant pull people, even if they are programmers from one part of the code to another, it will only cause more bugs. Code of this complexity has insane interlinkage and flooding the dev team with a lot of new people would bring disaster. What they should and hopefuly will do is have dev team grow at a steady rate the whole time.

Originally by: Grendelsbane Why do so many people start foaming at the mouth of the walking-in-stations bit in particular? If you don't like it, don't do it. In the meantime, it's a tool that could add a lot to the social element of the game, if done right.
Gamers can generally be categorised in two different groups (with a lot of overlap, mind you)...
1. Those that like a game because of the gameplay. 2. Those that like a game because of the pretty graphics.
The first group probably couldn't care less about WIS, but they DO care that the gameplay is working. This group would rather have CCP working of fixing the gameplay than add content they won't use anyway. The second group will like WIS because it'll look cool.
However, as people grow older, they tend to gravitate from the second group to the first. EVE has a pretty old customer base (iirc) compared to games like the-game-I-will-not-mention, so that is probable another reason why a relative large part of the EVE playerbase see WIS as wasted.
Also consider.. If WIS is purely a graphical addition, like being pretty pictures of ships that you can rotate with people walking around etc., how long will it be before people tire of it? Generally, once people have seen a pretty picture, they'll not look at it again! What's important in a hangar for most people? Seeing that your ship is loaded with ammo as a movie, or getting it loaded with ammo in the fastest possible way? What's important at a corp meeting? That you can see avatars of other corp members moving around an imaginary meeting room, or the actual things you're talking about over TS?
That is the reason I personally think WIS is a waste of development effort. Not because _I_ will not use it, but because I think that very few others will really use or notice it once the initial 'Cool!' effect wears off. How often do we look at the pretty structures present in missions? They've taken hours for some dev to put together. We look at them once, say 'Cool', and don't look at them ever again....
Unless pretty pictures has a PURPOSE supported by gameplay, it'll just be eye candy which is NOT the reason many of the players play this game.
You are my hero.
Listen to the man.

Eve is indeed turning into a WoW-clone if station walking is introduced.
C'mon CCP, focus on fixing bugs, not these types of "extra non core related b......t" (pardon my French)
I deal with software bugs every day (its my job). The highest prio in our organization is fixing bugs before content/functions. It has given us a good reputation on the market and our customers are satisfied, customer numbers are growing.
Are we doing the wrong thing, or does CCP need to get a better marketing strategy?
