Dreams of Yasur Ravede enDama YC112
By night the sea winds whisper A berceuse of salt and foam Forgotten as they have the notes Of this ashen ballad's home
In the place where we were born The mountain slumbers, and I Beneath our quilt of stars A hundred billion children's sky
But what dreams noble Yasur I muse, ancestor to us all Are you standing silent vigil Now until the heav'ns fall
This unbidden wonder seeps Through my breath, a weary sigh Is sacrifice enough to earn From the mountain this reply
Thunder and torrent! And showering of flame A thousand cities smote My curiosity to blame
I tremble to behold these Nightmare visions of the peak Wake, I cry, dream no more When Yasur begins to speak
Crashing rock and hissing steam The continent upheaved It is an earthen voice, of course And one centuries bereaved
Having seen the future history of So many sons and daughters gone In one final night of fire Yasur burned until the dawn
Its children bade the mountain calm There was no cause to mourn In frustration it withdrew For Yasur's purpose was to warn
A destiny of light awaits, they say Those who rise above to meet The winged gods, but stay You are safer on your feet
Walk the land and breathe the air Pick the fruit and take a wife What awaits you in the void Is not a happy life
They did not see, they could not Through their new adventure's hue So let the old god rest, they did And unto the heavens flew
All this Yasur speaks, clear In the logic of a dream And I ask the god, the mountain Of it's revelation's scheme
Broken nature's cipher, made Alike the waters and the tree Its scattered children bask in health Fortune and prosperity
But oh, these gifts were never free And the loan is coming due This future bought with promise Has transformed a certain few
Among Yasur's children stride Inhuman offspring of the stars Fusion hot, their trodden paths Sear a hundred billion scars
My wonder turns to trepidation And then again to fear Dare I posit why, Yasur Has explained this to me here
Unseated bedrock crumbles But unmoved, I realize Yasur, this god, a brother, has Seen through my human guise
Those few so gifted, attain A new transhuman ideal And steal the skies and stars To bring the universe to heel
Serving no gods, these angels By force and fiat reign The heavens and the lands In neither peace nor pity's name
Unleashed they are, unbound By loyalty to sense Saving nothing of grace nor Love for interactions hence
The mountain meant to alarm And to beg its children flee From these butchers of the worlds And their vicious destiny
In the place where we were born The mountain slumbers, and I Beneath our quilt of stars A hundred billion children's sky
I stir as dawn arrives to Tease the edges of the world Kiss the mountain with its light And a cobalt canopy unfurl
The tide beholds the spinning Of the moons and makes to lean Nearer to the shore, it soaks My feet and halts my dream
Awake, I shivver 'gainst the chill Of the early seaside morning And wrap myself with blankets To consider Yasur's warning
For the children who would leave The story tells that Yasur wept And with the dawning of a thought Onto my feet I find I've leapt
I grit my teeth against the cold and Behold the mountain and the sea And at once I know the truth O, Yasur warned of me |

Variations on a Theme by Ravede enDama Mammal Tafren
Red sands slither over rock. You were once by the sea, and wet winds blew in faces staring up among the forests. The sun is pale and distant to you now. Traces of our mysterious lives are scattered across the desert. Indifferent crystal, fragile as tornado fingers, shattered to slivers in the dust, we are brittle.
Each new love is like this: Under the pull of sad moons, to sway, circled by warm arms. And you know as you laugh that he is cruel, the warrior, remote to your vile charms.
Each night I call out your name among stone. The volcano answers, unmoved, alone
