So I just started playing again, played years ago, but ended up just quitting, since I was always so afraid of blowing up that I just grounded missions and now I'm ready to get blown up to blow up
I could never figure out what I wanted to do in this game, so pretty much I have about 5 mil skill points distributed all over the place, and like a noob beelined for the bigger ships so I could do higher level missions
But honestly missions are boring, I want to do something else and actually make a profit but making a long term plan on what I want to do is not a skill of mine and plus they reset all my standings so I have to grind L2's all over again
So this week I've tried doing exploration and WH and honestly seems pretty fun and lucrative but I can only fly an imicus right now and I've been blown up about half the time that I've gone out into null/WH
And I'm wondering if this is something I should be skilling into? I've lost a lot of ships already and I can't imagine losing something more expensive then a 2-3 mil frigate, I'd imagine if I got a better ship that it might deter attackers less often and I might be able defend myself actually too
But at the same time I would like to play the game instead of waiting a month or so, so idk what I should be doing, mining ina venture doesn't yield much of a profit, and grinding L2 missions in a myrmidon is pretty boring and I'm also mostly a solo player
I have about 75 mil right now along with these ships
-Myrmidon -Vexor -Iteron MK5 -Venture -Tristan -Imicus
TLDR- Idk what to do with skill training or what to do in the meantime of skill training, want to set up for a direction in ISK making |

I'd set up a plan for the most efficient grinding operation for fun/hour. I'd practice getting blown up in T1 frigates, for it'll make you more experienced, thus you'll be much better at getting blown up in the blingier ships.
Not that I'm too far ahead on my 'making profit the fun way' quest, but I just started it. Already there on the fun part, much less so on the profit-side. Sounds you are approaching the same task from the other end.
But as a wise man posted not long ago: You learn about the same from losing a 1mil ship than you would from losing a 100 mil one.
They say Alpha clones are only for trying stuff. I say it's just the Hard Mode.

Haha, I just don't wanna lose too much and not be able to replace it, I figure establish myself then go down in a blaze of glory somewhere |

Hello and welcome back to Eve.
Training up the Core Fitting skills will help you a lot. These will allow you to easily fit up ships in game.
*Core Fitting Skills*
Acceleration Control - To maximize Afterburner & MWD speed. Advanced Weapon Upgrades - To reduce turrets and launchers powergrid need. Afterburner - To reduce Afterburner duration & capacitor need. Capacitor Management - To maximize Capacitor. Capacitor Systems Operation - To maximize capacitor recharge rate. CPU Management - To maximize CPU. Electronics Upgrades - To reduce sensors & co-processors CPU requirements. Energy Grid Upgrades - To reduce power modules CPU requirements. Evasive Maneuvering - To increase acceleration & agility. Fuel Conservation - To reduce Afterburner capacitor need. High Speed Maneuvering - To reduce MWD capacitor need. Hull Upgrades - To maximize armor. Mechanics - To maximize structure. Navigation - To increase ship velocity. Power Grid Management - To maximize powergrid. Repair Systems - To operate best armor/hull repair modules. Shield Management - To maximize shield. Shield Operation - To maximize shield recharge rate. Shield Upgrades - To reduce shield upgrades powergrid need. Spaceship Command - To increase ship agility. Warp Drive Operation - To reduce capacitor need for warp. Weapon Upgrades - To reduce turrets and launchers CPU need.
Skills are listed in alphabetical order only, which skill to train first depends on your needs.
I suggest taking them up to level 3 to start, then work on maxing them asap. Don't forget to include the other main / support skills such as specific ship, defense, offense and career oriented skills. Don't just queue up one skill to train multiple levels, queue up multiple skills to train up one level each, that way you'll be able to easily play the game much sooner.
Since you like doing Exploration, I suggest you start off doing low level sites while training up your skills and as you advance in skills, equipment and experience, move up to the higher level sites.
Also do some google search on how to survive in Low Sec, Null Sec and W-space. Specifically on how to make Safe Spots, use Directional Scan and how to navigate Bubble Camps.
Good luck and may you have a long and rewarding career here in Eve.

The cash flow for new(ish) players isn't currently well balanced with the combination of ship cost (even if you buy cheap) and the risk of ship loss.
So my suggestion, assuming you want to keep playing solo: buy a PLEX and sell it for ISK. Use it to complement your income, rather than to buy more expensive stuff. Use the guarantee that you can afford to lose ships to broaden the range of activities you can do to include stuff that would be too risky now (e.g. your ISK is less that the fitted cost of your post expensive ship, which means you can't afford to fly it).
With approx a billion from a PLEX you can afford to lose 5-10 fitted Myrmidons or 25-50 Vexors, or it will cover 3 moderately well-fitted L4-capable mission-runner Battleships (L3's don't pay enough to buy BC's, but L4's can pay enough to pay for Battleships).
Note that there are other ways to make ISK, notably being protected and actively helped by a territory-owning nullsec Corp, but since you've played before you must know the other options. The difference with having enough ISK in the bank to easily replace your ships is that you can try out high-risk low-probability activities (like trying to find a helpful lowsec corp) along with low-risk lower return paths like grinding L4 security missions. |

I laughed when I read this.
Let's get this straight: any corp that "owns" sov in nullsec rents it out. They really don't care what happens to their renters. Do not expect NC. or someone to come save you. Ever.
Any corp that is "renting" sov in nullsec is too weak/disorganized to save you. Do not expect them to come save you, ever.
In nullsec you are pretty much on your own unless you're in a large alliance, in which case you are just another body in a fleet because god forbid you get caught mining/ratting during a CTA... besides, no large alliance would be interested in a 5 million SP toon with no relevant skills - except for maybe BRAVE. |

'What is the best way to make isk' is a question without an answer, it's whatever you enjoy making isk doing the most, 'Where can I find an excuse to fly this ship I really like' is a better way of approaching it. Don't lock yourself down into 'IM A MISSION RUNNER', those skills apply to all combat PvE on the game. |
