Hey guys so I moved into nullsec about 2 months ago with my pvp Alliance and things have been fantastic for the most part. Many veterans and long time pvpers have been taking me on roams and teaching me a lot about fleet doctrine and small gang / solo pvp. Having skilled primarily gallente ships however, my ships choices from cruiser and up have been limited to utilizing blasters and rails. Until now Ive been utilizing hull tanked blaster platforms with a lot of success however as many of my teachers have taught me my engagement profile is extremely limited and the use of these ships to ensure success and critical success is situational at best.
Im trying to increase my usefulness as well as exposure to more types of pvp as well as increase what types of fights I can engage in and be successful in. While I know that there is no "best ship" or "one fit to rule them all" scenario, I do want to know which ships and weapon types will allow me to engage in more successful fights. I have heard and looked and researched many platforms and fits and at the moment it looks like a toss up between caldari and minmatar that have the more of that well rounded, general purpose solo and small gang feel. I was hoping that I could get some input from yall if putting my research points into one of those trees will increase the number of potential solo engagements I can commit to and win with as well as maintaining being a good enough target for others to possibly engage me and not try and avoid the fight. Any tips and help would be appreciated.
Side note: I get so bored ratting blood raiders and have reached the point where in my dominix I can successfully get about 16 mil ticks with Max amarr drone skills. I have about a 12 train to get tech 2 sentries and was wondering if I would see a significant increase in income with a sniper pve dominix fit that can produce 850 dps at 100km range. I'm hoping the instant application of dps from the large rails and sentries will be a lot better for clearing sites as most of my time is spent watching the large drones fly from one target to the next. I'm hoping someone with more experience can comment on thst |

At this point I would think cross training amarr makes a lot of sense. You should have somewhat decent armor, drone and turret skills so basically all your going to need are the lazor and ship skills and away you go.
On top of garnering yourself the glorious amarr boats ,you also get the sisters ones which are invaluable and should be familiar to you.

I am not a PvPer so my advice is completely theoretical. That being said I've been in the NC Q&A for a few years and know a lot of the typical PvP advice given. Qualifiers out of the way here I go:

Two big aspects of PvP beyond just knowing the capabilities of your own ship is knowing the cababilites of your opponents ship as well as having options when you know what kind of fleet is inbound to select a ship that best counters what ever is headed your way.
To me the best way to know what your opponent's ship is capable of is to fly it yourself.
So if you skill up all of the racial ship and weapon skills for small and medium ships up to level 3 then you should be able to try out most of those other ships and see for yourself what they are capable of. You would also have a lot more options of possible ships to choose from. Since training to level 3 does not take that long it might be worth it to you to do just that and try out everything.

I fly a Domi against Sansha rats which is essentially the same thing. I have nearly maxed out skills for that ship. I use beam lazors instead of rails to do EM damage. I use the smaller beam lazor to make them easy to fit and easy on my cap. If I am really paying attention I can get about 24 Million isk bounty ticks. Maybe a little more if I am running them perfectly but that is about it. Your system's upgrade level will figure into this so if you are not at 5 on the Military upgrade and index then it will be less. Also I think that lower true sec will help you do better. I am typically running anoms in a -0.2 which you can't get much lower bounties and still be in null sec.
The TL;dr version is that you can do better than 16 but not all that much and I'll tell you that it's not worth focusing your skill training on that. No matter what you do to increase you isk / hour if you don't like ratting you still won't like ratting. I'd suggest trying other ways of making isk to see if any of them interest you. Most people like to keep changing things up to keep things fresh and not seem so grindy. If you really dislike all means of isk earning then you can always b sell a PLEX for isk.
If you have not tried out PI and exploration yet I'd suggest you at the very least give those a shot.

I'm not an expert pvper either, but I'd agree with Ralph, who would blow me out of the sky any day. Amarr to Gallante or Gallente to Amarr is a natural initial cross train. You will be able to expand the number of ships you can fly effectively faster if you need to train fewer skills. Gallente to Minny or Caldar is almost 80% new skills, while Amarr is Something like 40% new skills.
Astero is a very popular solo pvp boat, especially when you can afford to lose them.
My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

I'm toying with them on rats - when I use mine on Guristas, they can't do anything to me... Which is why my cormorant has one instead of a proper tank. Can't shoot what you can't lock. |

Wrong thread, but yeah, I think that's right - the last bit could be helpful in a 1v1 or a gang beating. |
