I have what I thought was a small question regarding damage type selection but might be more complicated than I had initially thought. Using a ship with a bonus to a specific damage type like the corax as an example, when it comes to choosing which type of damage to deal is it always that you should be targeting the NPC resistance hole despite the ship hull having a bonus to Kinetic? Are there any NPC types I should use kinetic against even if the listed damage to deal isn't kinetic? |

Yes, it is always ideal to deal the damage type that the NPC is weakest to. The exception is where you have a bonus to a specific damage type or types (kinetic or kinetic/thermal). You then have to look at how much damage you lose by switching to a non-bonused damage type.
Scourge is great against Guristas and EoM. It is also effective against Serpentis, Gallente and Angels - although to a lesser extent. Scourge is not very effective against Blood, Drones or Sansha - and that is where it might be more beneficial to switch to Mjolnir.
I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Damn it Arthur. You've been around long enough that you should know that Serpentis are actually weakest to kinetic. Scourge actually is ideal against them (except the Phi Overseer).
Anyhow, I made a chart some time ago that details all this. Click the tab corresponding to your kinetic bonus and see what's best. Hint: BR/Sansha always get EM. Kinetic takes over at 50% bonuses for everything else. Except drones, which I need to look at again because it seems suspect... |

Sorry, my bad - I was going off memory... I haven't been paying much attention to resistances since I moved away from missiles into guns.

Please excuse me, my brain just isn't working correctly right now. Could you please explain the 2 columns for each damage type ?
Thanks,

Colum 1 seem to be the resist % the target ship has. column 2 seems to be the applied damage you will get after applying the resist and damage bonus if present.
(Base damage with bonus applied ( 1- resist %)) = applied damage

My persona Rule of thumb is Shoot with the Bonused Ammo at everything Non Elite wince the resists are not huge either way. Once you hit Elites then switch Ammo if you are not shooting primary or secondary holes.
This is pretty much backed up by the Spreadsheet above (At least for 25% bonuses or below) |

Yup. This exactly.
I never claimed it was pretty, just functional. You should see the monstrosities that I don't make public.... |
