i use a dual monitor setup and the vid card settings are set to span both screens as one output (this allows me to have decent performance for two clients).
this also means though that i can not set the screen res in game to 1280x1028. only extreme widescreen options are available.
i tried to set this manually via the desktopheight and width settings in the prefs.ini but they are not taking effect.
what am i doing wrong ?
(sorry can not find a search function for the forum :( )

ok i figured out that character preferences are now stored as a dat file that apparently can not be edited. Why ?????
i was able to get a friends dat file with the resolution i was after and renamed it with the correct character ID in the file name. that loaded up fine in 1280x1024
why so complicated???? either make non wide screen resolutions available for dual monitor users or let us manually change the settings in the prefs.ini :(

My goal is to span 3 monitors, which I never got to work smoothly in XP; Vista seems to run overlay and 3D graphics really well across all monitors simultaneously, but I haven't gotten EVE to recognize any resolutions to span more than 1 display. It goes on my HD projector fine in it's native format (actually, last night I did something so Windows doesn't recognize the native format, so everything is a little blurry, but I'm sure I can fix it tonight), but I'd like to be able to play in a wide-screen format AT my desk, not in the family room. It would be just plain awesome.
So, I dunno. I wish CCP would incorporate official support for multiple displays.

Edited by: Raia Mortius on 05/05/2007 13:37:17 edit: i just realised that your problem is not the res but the performance. i ll leave in what i typed because it might hopefully help others. for your case... is your card configured to run all 3 screens as 1 display? mine wasnt and it was the biggest show stopper. one screen had excellent performance the other had 7fps. once i had set it up to run as 1 display it worked perfectly. i believe the nvidia setting is called "horizontal span". try that maybe.
try this if you have an nvidia card (sorry dont know this is done for ATI)
> right click on desktop > properties > settings > advanced > select the video card tap > control panel user interface > classic view > screen resolutions & refresh rates > add
now create a screen resolution that spans all three monitors. you are not going to select this one or actually use this for your monitors but what it will do is add this screen res to the drop down menu under graphics settings in eve. you can customize exactly the res you want.

I've got the exact same problem with 1280*1028 -or lack of it- as you mentioned at the top Raia. Which file was it you had to copy from your friend?

Has anyone figured out how to hack that dat file? I would like to set my screen to 1280x960, but, I can't find any way to do that.
