After trying several of the other trade route tools out there and not liking any of them, I wrote my own. It runs in the taskbar and works through the IGB. The interface is very much like talking to an agent. It's simple, but beautiful, and it works.
Screenshots and description available here.
This is the first release, please mail me or chat in game if you have suggestions and/or problems. During testing I typically found routes with 10-25% profit per warp (often within the same system!). If you make mega profit, I'd love to hear about it!
Note: When running the first time, Windows may ask you if you want to allow NavBot to open port 9999. You can say NO. NavBot does not need external internet access at all. You will still be able to access it through the IGB in Eve.

Sorry about that, I used winzip. I've added a version here with a "compatible compression" mode that works with the windows default compression, so should be fine with winrar etc.

Works fine for me.
The only thing I got stuck on was being asked to type in ISK and Cargo space and having to click on nothing to activate the cursor. A box to type in would be good.
The only way I could confuse it was by typing in 2 billion ISK. It told me all routes had 0% profit, I guess it thought I had enough ISK already. In my dreams...

Edited by: Tejar on 29/04/2007 21:01:44 Edited by: Tejar on 29/04/2007 21:00:18 Thanks for trying it out - I hope it proves useful! The profit shown is as a percentage of your total isk available, rather than the amount needed for the trade run. I guess if you have 2 billion isk and not a freighter, your cargospace might limit you to making, like, 400k profit in total. As a percentage of 2,000,000,000, that is pretty much 0% :-)
The reason for this is that otherwise, routes that trade 2 items at 400% profit look really good, until you realise that gives you 20k isk and wastes your time.
I see text boxes for entering isk and cargo space; which display scheme are you using?

Fair question - the best answer is to say: try it and see! But I'll also try to summarize ;-)
- It's fun to use, quick to install and keeps to the spirit of the rest of the EVE interface.
- You don't have to upload your data to the internet, where other people are able to exploit your routes.
- It finds more profitable routes (I haven't found any other tools that take so much into account when ranking a route's profitability).
- NavBot calls you "Captain", and treats you like one.
- Inter-region trade routes are as easy to find as any other trade routes.
- If people like the general approach (more fun, less spreadsheets) then I could be persuaded to actively develop more revisions with some rather cool features added.

Cant seem to get it to work here. I get to the part where it asks to locate the EVE install directory but when i click on 'Run in Taskbar' it gives me an error and says I have another copy of Navbot running (which i dont).

Hi Jamingo - this error means NavBot couldn't open port 9999 as an IGB connection. Perhaps another program is already using it? Try closing NavBot and then going to http://localhost:9999in your browser. If anything is there, you'll have to close that program first.
I'll add an option to scan for a free port in the next revision :-)

Can you release the source? How do we know it doesn't contain keyloggers?

I may release the souce in the future, but it's not something I'm considering right now.
NavBot doesn't require any access to the internet, nor does it attempt to contact any other computers over the internet. You can verify this with any firewall program (I recommend blocking the initial request to open port 9999; EVE can talk to NavBot without this being open). There would be no point in a key logger or any such thing that couldn't send the information back home

Wow this program looks really cool. I am a bit weary because it isn't open source but I'll give it a try tonight.
I noticed on your website you say
"In testing, NavBot often found trips worth 20-40% of Tejar's total cash within a single system."
How much was 20-40%? If thats of the 5000isk you start with as a noob thats obviously not that impressive, but if we are talking about accounts with 100m isk + then... wow....

this looks really nice but can't get it to work :(
how do i upload market reports to nav bot, do i just use the export to file option in the market window? i have tried this with no luck.
as it is when i choose 'see market reports we already have' or 'how old is this data' it just crashes on me.
am i missing something obvious or am i just a bit thick,or both?
as i said this looks really nice and i'd love to get it working

I've only used NavBot with up to 5m isk. It took me there pretty quickly, though. The profit depends greatly on the amount of cargo space you have - you need a pretty huge cargo hold to take advantage of hundreds of millions of isk (frieghter). At 5 million isk I am seeing runs with a profit of ~500k isk per warp (per jump would be even more profit, but these days warping takes as long as jumping).

Quick update: I've just put revision B up for download. This has the same features as revision A, but extra error reporting to help track down some of the problems people have been having. Now you can also post error reports from revision B here!

It looks good, but it tells me that I can make 7700% profit selling Zydrine within Jita. I kind of doubt that that's correct. I have no idea what's causing it.
I live in Europe so sometimes weird stuff is caused by number or date formatting. My exported data looks like this. It looks 'american' so maybe that's not what's causing it: 1164.93,131933.0,39,32767,420827500,273775,1,False,2007-05-01,90,60003760,10000002,30000142,0, 1164.94,79141.0,39,32767,421299401,103021,1,False,2007-05-01,90,60003760,10000002,30000142,0,

Looks great! Except a minor thing stated above, too; it says i can make 270% profit on buying Sensor Booster II in Oursulaert, and selling them on in... Oursulaert? Easy money. ___________________ Sortiario Communication Consulting - SCConsult Communication advisory service |

Same problem here,
Dairy product, to buy and sell at the same station, supposedly at a profit of 1200%
If i check the market manually I cant see where that profit comes from. Sellers price is higher then buyers price.
Is the navbot drunk ?

I tested this out last night and I must say it works great. It found a system where I made a quick 1m isk profit just traveling from one station to another!
I would like to see it list more routes, maybe the top 5 in each category? That would help plan a longer route, from system to system to system.
Keep up the good work!

How about a way to update the trader without using the export to file button?
Yes I am lazy.
Also seems to me there would be some sort of math that doesnt give you crazy numbers because o fthe cash you have vs your cargohold ability

I'm lazy too, and it would be possible to export, say, all the items in your quick list via a macro, but I suspect CCP would hit me with their ban stick if I built this into NavBot. I think it's stupid to have to export items individually, too. Please petition CCP to add an export all, or to tell me I can automate this for you.
On the bright side, once you've exported the first handful, you only need to update the items you've just traded in rather than updating everything (mostly).

Thanks to everyone who's reported crazy numbers coming out of NavBot. I suspect this is a localization problem, and may be related to some people reporting crashes.
I'm working on a German-localized laptop (ja, ich wohne hier in Deutschland) with the English-language EVE download and an English-language Visual Studio (ja, so gut ist mein Deutch noch nicht!).
I can easily imagine some combinations might be getting their "," and "." confused. I'll try to reproduce this tonight, and hopefully send out a revision C with fixes for this tomorrow or the day after. It would be helpful if anyone who experiences crazy numbers could post the offending market logs as comments on the blog sometime today.
Thanks! -- Tejar

Edit: We've also discovered that it requires XP SP2 or alter to run. If you can't start NavBot, then this might be the problem. Thanks to everyone who reported this!

I'm here in the Netherlands, I also have that more then 2000% profit stuff. We use "," like in Germany, not the "." to announce the cents in the number.
But It could be that, hope you figure it out. It looks really cool and I like the humor you added in the questions from the NavBot.
You still have to figure a name for NavBot though (like Aurora of the Tutorial).

I was going to suggest some changes but then I realized how clever you had made NavBot. NavBot, for it's purpose (which I believe I understand), is perfect.
Now, that said, there is room for a "brother/sister" to NavBot that would help with reporting on items (indepedent of where the pilot is sitting).
Lastly, you may want to look into caching the market data. Reading through all those files from the disk is causing alot of I/O overhead. You could speed it up by dumping everything into NavBot's running memory for a performance boost.
You may run into issues with this eventually if people dump a ton of market data. (I'm already experiencing 20 seconds delays with generating reports pulling only perhaps 1/10th of all market export data across 3 regions.)
