Well, i can see this topic sparking a lot of trolls, but also some interesting debate.
If EVE Online was true to is nature of being risk based, why has CCP not fixed the risk free immunity of cloaky campers?
I'd say that's a big issue many would love to re-balance. CCP makes plex more granular, and does not allow granular time use like plex 'ing for 2 weeks only. CSM's do not speak for everyone, of that i am very sure. Some of the recent updates have been successful, and some are not so much. But if CCP is going to re-balance. Then start by making cloaky camping risk based the same as the rest of eve online.
Re-balance means being fair to all members of the eve community, without breaking eve. Oh wait, CCP does that too on occasion.
Granular Plex - NO Granular game time. Re-balance ships and mods - NO cloaky camping (cov-ops) re-balance.
Why do we have a net worth value and not be able to move any or our stuff once per year at least to where we want it? Can CCP redefine what re-balance means. Because I'm not sure they know what re-balance means.

Now that looks evenly balanced.

My guess is that CCP is aware that a lot of players are not happy with the mechanics of cloaks, local and stealth in EVE. And my guess is that GÇ£improve stealth playGÇ¥ is on their to-do list, but not with a high priority. Because what we have today works, the players are used to it and some players even donGÇÖt want a change because they like the status quo. So my answer to your question is: I guess they wait until they find the time for an overhaul that addresses all parts of stealth play and wonGÇÖt change only one mechanic now.
Personally (and that may even change with more ingame experience) I would like to see a delay in local that correlates with the security level of a system and that cloaky ships lose their immunity to combat probes over time. You would show up instantly in the local chat of 1.0 systems and with less security level the delay to show up in local gets longer. (But still never in WHs until you speak up.) Perhaps up to a one minute delay to show up in a -1.0 systems local chat? And cloak wouldn't last forever to balance things out.
My favorite solution for cloaks would be that they work like they do now for a decent amount of time (there wouldnGÇÖt be much incentive to use them otherwise) But you should be able to find a cloaky camper under certain conditions. After x hours of cloaking (random number between 4 and 8, make them gamble?) you appear on combat probes as a very weak signature. Only scan-able with the highest skills and bonused ships. Other players get rough direction, but no warp in. But if you donGÇÖt refresh your cloak (leaving you uncloaked for one circle) your signature gets stronger and stronger until even unbonused ships with average skills can scan you down and get a warp in. As long as the camper recloakes in time he will be save (as it should be imho) but when he waits to long it will get more and more dangerous. But no instant auto-decloak at a fixed time. |
