These channels are already there (well were when I checked a little while back) but they are not used at all. But I think that they possibly have their uses.
- maybe as a local intel for null or low sec groups to report hostiles (I know these entities generally have their own intel channels) - You could be chatting to someone in local and have to move systems
Or there could be a number of other reaons to use them. I guess that any trade hubs would need to be special snowflakes and removed from the list. And as I write this I am think that the regional one at list might resemble Jita on it "best" day but do you think it is something you would use and if so what kinds of things could you forsee it being used for? |

I've heard advice before to use constellation chat like a bigger local. Depending on your location, can get up to like 3 jumps warning that scouts are on their way so you can get your carrier docked.

I've often thought over the years that in null it would make the game more fun and open up more options for interesting game strategies to scrap local altogether, but keep constellation chat.
My thinking on this is that we already have a tool for gathering local intel. Scanning. Chat should be for chat and local is not used for that purpose. It's used to instantly see who's in system.

It would be better if the constellation auto-changed to the constellation you're in, similar to local. I actually like that idea, with the full deletion of local chat.
I haven't used constellation chat in a while, but is it a chat that only shows you in the side bar if you actually post something? That makes it worth it right there. |

Constellation chat is like local, but doesn't show you unless you speak. Ditto with Region. If you're in Constellation, it's automatically the constellation you're in. You don't need to search for it.

Both constellation and region are "recent speakers only". Region closes itself every time you session change, I assume constellation does too. That alone makes them broken. If that was fixed, I'd imagine both could be pretty fun channels, but as it is, nope. I'd love if a CCPer could get us some usage data on those channels.

And because I'm on a laptop screen with 90% scaling theres not much room for me to keep lots of channels open like I'd like to so its just eliminated by priority. It's not open by default so why hide names when the only way to get in the channel is to actively seek it out.
While we're at it Id like to be able to close alliance chat too but I can only separate and minimize it every time I log in.

Go to the help channel then, you can talk about random shenanigans and help people at the same time!

Constellation and region chat are a nice idea but a waste of time due to anyone being able to use it. It's not an Intel channel if everyone can use it.

Speak for yourself.
The members of my alliance and I often use the local chat for chatting. You are aware that not everyone is in the same corp right and hence can't chat without having to open private conversations, which fastly gets out of hand if you have more going?
Local is a nice way to communicate with frenemies who live in the same system as you, or arrange fights at the sun, giving feedback after a fight or trash talk someone who just whelped a fleet. Just because you don't use it for chatting doesn't mean that nobody else does.

Someone mentioned getting data on the usage of those channels from CCP, that's a good idea I htink, how can we go about requesting that?
If they close after a session change then that needs to be fixed but I think that I will open up both channels when I am online tonight and see what happens. I am currently in Metropolis region if anyone else is about down there. |

No One answering in "metropolis" regional channel tonight :) I guess it just plain isn't used (I know basing this on one region is bad) |
