It seems just about every leet pvp group out there has been loving the new rorqual and excavator changes. Am I tripping or is grinding on ore now a thing to generate lots of isk in Nullsec? Granted I did take some time away from the game while training up some skills, so maybe I missed the Great Nullsec Ore Rush.

Some things have become more viable, it seems, with the most recent changes to ships such as the Rorqual along with the introduction of some new mining drones such as Excavator drones. I'm not a miner really so can't really comment on the Rorqual specifically, but the Orca definitely got some new rock-crunching teeth. I haven't yet gotten a chance to fit and use an Orca to test it out, but just from the stuff I've been seeing in PyFa and Ghost fitting, I'm actually a little worried some stuff got a little jacked up too much. Right now it looks like the Orca can run parallel to Exhumers for yield and far exceed them everywhere else except price and align time.

I am not calling you specifically out, but man, this seems like the EvE Hipster thing to say. "I don't mine myself, but..."
Like ICP fans. No one wants to admit liking it, because other peoples opinions about it. ... But someone is mining. Someone is listening to those albums.
And usually the people "not mining" are the ones with strong opinions, and a whole lot of correct information on the state of the activity.

Yeah the post on reddit I saw, or maybe it was the dev blog, said ~1400 m3/minute max potential from an Orca, which is apparently almost in line with 1 exhumer. However, the boosts from these indy command ships also are rather nice I bet and help barges and exhumers gather even faster (Unless the above is in comparison to an already boosted exhumer). But I have been wondering, is it even worth it to have a barge now or exhumer if you can just sit there in a porpoise/orce/rorq with their large ore holds and chill without the need for other mining ships. |

CCP want's players to think mining is cool.
Why ? Because Mining ships are easy to destroy.

So if mining ships are easier to destroy and thus the risk vs reward factor increases. Meaning mining is great again but at a cost. We will therefore get exploded more often, which might also increase demand of said mining ships. If this happens and supply of ships increases then more people will mine, and thus mineral prices could stay low. However, if demand decreases and mining ships are made less often, then the price stays about the same, but that doesn't seem likely.
So there is a conspiracy here. CCP wants the cost of ore to be lower because they have something YUUUUGE planned. This could be A) Player built stargates that will require tons of minerals and thus now be easier to aquire for more alliances, B) They are planning on adding something bigger than a Titan like a Mothership (say any alliance with X members can only have 1 of), or C) They plan on adding gigantic cannons we can build to launch our ships from cause that would be awesome. |

Yep. Recently I noticed a lot of people must have caught on to that when I began to see a lot more Orca's in belts than normal -- and this was the strange part -- quite a few of them all by their lonesome.
According to fits I ran in PyFa afterwards, just 2 T2 rigs is all that separates the Orca from hitting the yield rate of a Skiff with 3 T2 MLU's and running T2 crystals. That's 22.5 a second and 1350 per minute, though it can't push much more since the best it could do is add a sole T1 rig to the fit and would need augmented or better drones to get more. Drones need to travel to and from rock and ship to manage as well, but decent piloting makes that largely a non-issue anyways.
As long as you're not molested by gankers or rats in that amount of time or run out of things to crack open, you could just sit there and bring in a freighter's worth of ore or ice in about 3 hours without using up one strip mining crystal or stopping to drop off at station more than once. A Mack would need to stop more than seven times to unload cargo for that kind of haul. It's become the Noctis for miners in a way. I'm tempted to get an Orca just for those "I have a mining itch" days (yes, that does actually happen on rare occasion with me), but CCP might step in at some point to some stat cleaning. Personally I'm fine with the idea that the Orca can at least use drones to mine still in the absence of exhumers/barges/expeditionary ships sitting next to it, but for it to be able to mine that good by itself is a little iffy admittedly.

Talked to rorqual owner other day.... He said something in lines of 133mil/hour with rorqual. Little too low for my taste...

seems ccp has decided injecting minerals into the economy is worse than injecting raw isk?

I can make like 70mil/hour in T2 exploration frigate afk and safe (because noone really cares to hunt it) I know about diminishing returns but in this case it is just too much of it...

Well.... They can mitigate ISK injection with taxes and some other stuff... And they do not touch mineral requirement for BPOs.
Maybe this is the reason?
