I have been trying my hand at trading and have been enjoying it until a recent frustration.
I have been buying some NPC items and moving them to get my feet wet and all was going well. Occasionally I my buy order wouldn't get fulfilled but I chalked it up to competition and made a note to watch the buy order closer in the future.
As I did this I started noticing something that I can't explain and I am hoping someone here can help me.
5/5 Buy order was up for 100k @ 990 isk (not actual). At 5 minutes before DT I log in to find and competitive buy order offering 1000 isk. I increase my order to 1001 and log off. After DT I log in to find that all items have been purchased, the 1000 isk order is gone, my order for 1001 is still there and price history shows that 1 order was fulfilled for 100K and low paid equal to high paid at 1000 isk.
5/6 I am again the highest bidder but as the 1000isk order was gone I lowered my order back below 1000isk. I log in before DT to find someone place a higher bid than mine for 990isk. I increase my price to 991 isk in station as his is and place another buy order for 25K system wide for 990.50. DT hits and I am the highest. After DT I log in and the items are bought, both my orders are still there, the 990 order is gone and the price history says all 100K were bought for 990isk.
5/7 Same thing happens again at 1000isk this morning. Both my orders are at 1001 and the lower buy order still buys out all inventory (at profitable prices).
Am I missing something? Is there a window before DT where orders don't take affect. Today's "ghost order of doom" was placed 45 minutes before DT so mine was only 30 minutes later.
Any light you could shed on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

Sorry. I'm having a bit of trouble following exactly what is going on.
There should be no cut off problem. It seems likely that the person is updating their price above yours at downtime.
Remember that the table of sales info does not list 100% of orders. It leaves out the highest and lowest sales, the top/bottom 1-2% if not 5%. These are considered outliers. I believe it only lists data that falls within either 2 or 3 standard deviations or somewhere in between.

Each day I stayed on until right before DT on Saturday morning and DT logged me off on Sunday and Monday. As DT hit I was the highest each day

Understood. The problem is that there is only 1 purchase noted for the day and the high low range is equal to his order price. The first day there is only one purchase all day, the second had two and the range went from a low of his price to a high of the current NPC price and this mornings shows only one sale aswell and both the high and low are equal to his buy price. (Example: 1 order - Volume 100K - low 1000 - high 1000 - avg 1000 [my 2 orders where for 1001 and 1000.5])
The short of it is... Each day for the last 3 days I have upped my buy order right at DT and had the highest buy order as DT hit. All three days the NPC has sold to this other buyer and for less than my buy order.
I petitioned it on Sunday but have not received a response and so I thought the community might be able to shed light on this.

I used to do this with vitoc. I think what you are running into is the server starting to save or some such thing. It happened to me frequently, there wasn't much of any rhyme or reason to it. Apparently CCP broker NPC goods again, because they are not supposed to reset at down time.

i know exactly what your seeing and i am one of thosse evil people that are probably annoing you.
if i see 2 orders at a station , 1 for 1000 and 1 for 1001 i will pick the 1000 every time even though the 1001 woudl make me a little bit more money. the reasoning for me is simple, people that are jumpy and change thier prices frequently tend to annoy me. with this in mind i look for round numbers on my orders.
i seriously doubt i am the only person that does this.

Try as you might that doesn't actually work. The market automatically fills the "best" deal despite the order you actually clicked on.

I thought of that. It's an NPC item and both of us are in the station it's being sold at. I purposely set a second order for system just to see and nothing.
I got a canned petition answer like you get to every market petition (ie have you fogotten about this yet so I can close it without an investiagion?).
It wouldn't have bugged me much except it happened 3 days in a row.
