I've been away for awhile, and last night I got a surprise. My Thrasher got into a fight with an Imperial Navy Slicer. Luckily I won, barely. But everything was cooked away except about 20% of my hull. And that last part was cooking. Cooking hot, with ripples of red heat coming off of it. Looked like magma or lava. Even the Super Kerr-Induced Nanocoating was burnt off. I didn't notice that until I docked up and camera drones showed the Thrasher's exterior close up. I should have told my crew, but I didn't think about it. They got scorched on the way out of the ship. The whole hangar smelled like burnt hair or bug-zapper zapped bugs. I got a few comments and dirty looks from the docking management staff. Actually I could smell it on my way to my Captain's Quarters and then later on the way to the nearest bar. Some people looked like they were struggling to keep the romantic thing going in their dates or their attempts to pick each other up.
Anyway, my question is: If I just leave the Thrasher in the hangar for a week or two, will it cool off on its own? Or do I have to take it to a citadel for a free repair?

A+ backstory.
You'll have to repair it. I'm not sure if the citadel repair aura will do it; you might have to shell out a couple ISK or buy some nanite paste (the repair option in a station is almost certainly cheaper than the paste) |

A coat of paint and some screen doors and it'll be fine.

It's a thrasher. It will fly faster without all the armor plating holding it down. And the overheated hull will transfer it's bonus to your weapons same as if you overheated them. Minmatar ships get more effective the more bashed up they get |

Good. You discovered how to fire harden a Minmatar hull.
Don't touch it. It's now damn near invulnerable.

Nah, dude. Open the fitting tool, select the SKIN tab on the left, then hit that "Clean Ship" button and the docking crew will take it from there. No extra charge and their fast and efficient too, even my old industrials and barges had rust and dirt build-up no more. Even Minmatar ships can look good as new.
"Tomahawks?"
"----in' A, right?"
"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."
"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Excellent story. While I was reading it .............
Now about your question,

While the Docking Crew will clean your ship for free, station repair shops will charge you quite a bit of ISK for their service. Now if you want to cut down on the cost, you can fit Armor and Structure repair modules with a Mobile Depot and do the repairs to the ship yourself in space before docking.
When tethered to a Citadel, it was my understanding that all damage to the ship as well as fitted modules and drones in the bay will be repaired for free. Best to tether up at a Citadel first and get as much of it repaired and then use a Mobile Depot with repair modules or dock in a station to finish repairs if needed.
Since you're already docked in a station, hopefully the hull integrity hasn't been compromised too much so you can still undock.

Got it, thanks for all the tips. So I now have a heat-tempered hard Thrasher. So I'm going to hit Clean Ship to cool it off. I couldn't find any screen door mods, but maybe that's because I'm Alpha and I can't fit them. So, if rust builds up, that helps EHP too, right? I'm in a Caldari station and the hangar is pretty dry. Doesn't seem like a good rusting environment. Space is even drier. Like absolutely dry, no water at all. Not good for rust either. Should I dock at a Minmatar station? Maybe they're a little more damp and humid?
Also, are there any Super Kerr-Induced Nanocoatings you can buy that look like that molten lava? It looks pretty boss. Like, is there a way I can get that look without going down to 20% structure again? |

Minmatar stations are the best. Perfect environment for enrustment. Many sweaty Brutors moving weight are working on delivering this kind of atmosphere. EHP is the best with more mass of the rust, so some thick steel plates are preferred for rusting. And when they turn to rust, its good to harden it. There are various hardeners on the market.
As for staying fried and crispy, it can only be such way when your rust is indeed fried and crispy, that means you will have to abandon all repairs in favor of shields. Or go fast. so fast they will not catch you.

If you dock at a citadel or engineering complex you can get a free repair, just use the same process as a station besides it costing 0 isk, it would be cool to have a SKIN that looked damaged though. |
