For a gfx battle you usually let the boardusers vote. First guy with, let's say, 12 votes wins.

Edited by: Tajidan on 11/05/2007 13:28:20 ok, i try to set some rules up. nothing¦s set, just a preversion. tell me what ya think.
------PHOTOSHOP BATTLE------
//Rules Max Contestants: ? indefinite Software: Photoshop, Gimp and whatever there is. excluding paint though. Image-material: no wallpapers or copyrighted stuff, should be EVE related Imagesize: 1024x768px, 72dpi Steps: min.1, max.2 Entrance Fee: 10mill isk (payable to a neutral Char with reputation, maybe DS volunteers for that?)
//Theme EVE related (Caldari, Amarr, Gallente? i dont know lol)
//Deadline i¦d say contest is finished when all registered contestants have done their 2 steps, since a timebound deadline will be very difficult to handle.

minimum 1 step is required to participate, you get the version of your previous combatant and make your "step" out of it. For example, you get a pic of a mountain lake with a flying caracal(step1) and then you decide to make that cara goe boom by a brutix or something (step2). the maximum of 2 steps per combatant is to keep the contest within a reasonable amount of time.
i¦m still organizing this thing, since i havent done this before either i appreciate every help. to whom do you pay the entrance fee i dont know yet either, needs still to be worked out. i¦ll keep you guys updated.

How does that work because surely people wont want to go first because then they cant win really... and no one will want to use their last go first.. because then they have lost...

Edited by: Godlesswanderer on 11/05/2007 21:31:48 The kind of contest Tajidan is thinking of seems to be a graphics chain/train where no one really wins. There's a picture, someone adds whatever they want to it and passes it onto the next person, they add what they want, etc. That kind of contest is a bit of fun.
The way I assumed this was going was, the contest creator supplies a picture, everyone then takes it off in their own direction and after the deadline everyone sees what everyone else has created from that picture. Everyone votes, someone wins, everyone's happy .
Unless I'm misunderstanding this too? ---------------------------

Yeah, I googled the Photoshop Battle thing; seems a lot of of the iterations done by pro's are indistinguishable from the previous.
Maybe we should have a freebie trial run?

Hell I'm always looking for way to improve my PS non-existent skills.
simple way i can think of a battle would be you are given a set of resources whether it be a few pictures or a few renders whatever, then u have to make a wallpaper or signature out of the resources. you cannot use any other "outside" material. of course u can add text, brushing etc.

In all the sig battles I've taken part in before, a challenger sets a theme and possibly size requirement for the graphic. Opponents (either 1 in a 1 v 1 or multiple) then create a sig graphic which is posted. Other forum members then vote for the one they feel is best in terms of composition (colours, light, depth, complexity etc etc) and overall 'coolness'
The winner is the one with the most votes.
Could be cool having battles for Eve sigs because they're a LOT different to the kinds of sigs on the regular 'Battle' sites and there's scope for loads of themes (eg, Must feature a Thanatos, or Must feature Fighter Drones etc) - that said, it's been a while since I've competed in battles... .

The best way (my opinion) to hold a sig contest, is first to have neutral judges, which will handle the contest.
This judge(judges), will decide the theme, size, the ISK to participate, timelimits to enter your submission etc. Then when all have signed on, and deliviered their submission, they will vote on each other (not on themself). Say for example the best sig, would get 3 points, second best 2 points, and third 1 point. All who attend, must submitt their votes to the neutral judge.
The winner will get all the ISK, devided if there is a tie. The winner will be the judge for the next contest as well.
By allowing only the sig makers to vote, you can avoid any suspicious voting activity, by friends and alts.
just my opinion....

Either your refering to an special old post, or else I dont have a clue how you can compare a typical sig contest, with my suggestion.
My suggestion, allows more ppl to vote, which sig are best, than one singel guy, based on his personal taste. The neutral judge, are only a go-between from those who votes, so the votes can be kept secret (avoiding ppl specualting on the voting) Yeah Im paranoid, when it comes to EVE players, since CCP encourage scamming, theft, and general bad behaviour

Just to clafify, I wasn't saying your suggestion was bad! It was the whole 'Theme is set', as many people enter as want to, sigs are 'judged' and then ISK is awarded thing, that made me say it is similar to what we already do; the main difference in this case being that there are multiple judges. But even then, in the case of Corporation banner / Logo competitions here already, we do already sometimes have competitions with multiple judges. - thus how I drew the comparison.
To the OP - perhaps you could clarify how YOU see a battle taking place?
