Edited by: POTUS on 11/05/2007 20:51:42 I have heard people say that if you chain the whole system you will get a faction/hauler spawn quicker. I've heard others state that if you kill off everything in the system, a faction/hauler will spawn quicker. Who can tell me the truth about faction/hauler spawns in 0.0? |

Here is another idea: do not kill everything, only kill the biggest sized spawns. That is ofcourse BC in low sec and BS in 0.0. If you see a BS or a BC that is supported by frigates, then leave those frigates alone and only the BS or BC will respawn. Then you will be more likely to get a larger sized faction spawn. I have killed tons of them, but I have never gotten anything good off of a frigate sized one.
Honestly, the way to get a faction spawn is to just keep warping from belt to belt to belt to belt. Then move on to the next system and try the same thing. It is true that some systems/regions are more likely to have faction spawns. I'd get an interceptor or take a cruiser or assault frigate and rig it for warp speed if you want to find faction spawns that bad.

I think hauler spawns once were also timed somehow. Over a year ago I've been ratting a lot in one system and up to 6 hours per session and I got one hauler everyday at around the same time. Then another one at random later. The time when I got that 1st hauler was each day almost the same within 10-15 minutes. Once I remember me joking in corp chat something like: 'Think I'm bugged, I haven't got my daily hauler yet. Should have spawned by now.' Then I jumped into the next belt and there was it. It was frightening.
Well, if it's still that way and people approve it, I expect it to get changed. ___________ Muuuhhh !!! |

the only thing that can cause a faction spawn to apear is killing off the current spawns since thats nly way a new spawn appears, chaining does'nt work that just keep the current spawns there. Thi sis after years of chaining I base this judgement on. Chaining i a good source of isk granted but you seriousally reduce yur chances of finding factional spawns.

Obviously I do not work for CCP, so what I say is based only on my experiences. That out of the way, in my opinion, the only way to increase your chances of rare spawns is to increase your exposure to new spawns. This means to hit as many empty belts as you can, as fast as you can, to cause them to spawn rats. So, using this theory, chaining rats is a bad thing, because when you chain a spawn that spawn is now set - nothing else will spawn there but what was there originally.
Think of it like this: when you warp into a belt for the first time during a given day in a given system, the dice are rolled. On a good roll, you get a spawn. Then dice are rolled again - on a damn good roll, you get a special spawn. Again with the dice roll, this time determining whether the special spawn is a hauler or a faction spawn.
If it's a chained spawn, there is no dice roll, only timers on the spawn - respawn timer, movement timer, and (maybe) despawn timer.
That's my theory anyway, backed up by a silly amount of time ratting. Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

Edited by: Grim Faust on 11/05/2007 22:19:45 Edited by: Grim Faust on 11/05/2007 22:18:30 If you look through the entire system and there isn't already a faction/hauler spawn, the only way to get one is to completely eliminate each group in each belt. This means if you engage a rat group, you have to kill every last one in that belt. That is effectively clearing a spawn out. Each system can hold so many spawns. Once the system has max spawns, it doesn't make anymore until one is destroyed.(The spawns will just warp around from belt to belt until someone kills them) So, when you wipe out a spawn group it free's up a spot for a new group to spawn. Of course, everytime a new spawn is made there is a chance that it is a faction/hauler.
Morale of the story;
If the system doesn't already have one, start killing everything and freeing up the spawn spots for new groups.
If you don't want to waste your time killing, get a very fast ship and start skimming through systems, belt by belt. Once you locate a system with faction/hauler group, go grab your combat ship and come back and claim your prize(That is of course unless someone else already hasn't.) Don't worry if you come back to the system and it's not in the same belt. Spawns move, so just go find it. (Unless of course again, someone else found it first.) __________________________________________________ I survived CCP eating all my sigs and all I got was a crappy colorful moderator message...

One detail i've heard about Faction spawns that's missing is you need to clear the gates of spawns too and literally try to have the whole system reset itself It's not easy when you have a moderate amount of belts and then like 5 gates to cover.

Yeah, I almost forgot about that bit. Gates are just the same as belts in relations to spawns. Spawns can move to them, they can spawn on them and the spawns on the gates can also be faction/hauler. __________________________________________________ I survived CCP eating all my sigs and all I got was a crappy colorful moderator message...

Edited by: Plutoinum on 11/05/2007 23:06:35 Edited by: Plutoinum on 11/05/2007 23:00:33 It's not a requirement that the system is clear. I usually did a mixed approach. Clearing the crap out and chaining some good spawns a bit as they appeared and as long as spawns got replaced by new ones, there was also a chance for haulers, commanders and officers. Of course I included the spawns at the gates also. Crap spawns are just bad for the coming spawns that are to be expected in my believe, like a small frig/cruiser spawn in 0.0, they need to be erradicated, when they appear.
In the end it's a lot about believing in general.
Can't say, if something has changed with Revelations though, since I got bored of ratting and can't stand it at the moment. I prefer a complex run or just production anytime. ___________ Muuuhhh !!! |

So, no one has a definite the DEV's said the way it works is like this. I see very different guesses but, nothing for sure. |

Well the devs wont tell you of course :D
Simply put, what a lot of people have said, in my experience, is correct - if there is no faction spawn there, kill spawns until they appear.
Say for the sake of argument there's a 1 in 50 chance of a faction spawn. You can't change that to 1 in 10 or 1 in 5. But you can kill so many spawns that 1 in 50 chance crops up more.
Am I saying this right? I think you know what I mean, anyway

The biggest factor is the true sec status of the system. If you live in 0.0 your corp m8's or your enemy will be able to tell you which are the systems that regularly spawn faction and hauler spawns. From my experience you will get lower quality faction spawns outside these systems, but not the likes of Estamal, etc, and not as often. Hauler spawns are relatively easy to get. Just keep clearing the belts, and you will see the new spawns slowly change and they will contain more bs with bigger bounties. Keep clearing until you get hauler/faction... After a while of doing this you should be able to enter a system and know at what stage it is at.

you can massively increase chances of faction spawns by looking at map and going areas that noone else has been in since d./t or going into 0.0 after d/t and checking systems.

Well if you chain everything you won't get any new spawns, so no faction spawns either.

Thats always been my take on it as well. I thought if you chain a spawn, the next rats on the list will go to another belt in the constellation. Now, if you have only two belts in your constellation and you chain one of the systems, could you force the faction/haulers to spawn in the other? |

I recently heard its based on the constelation and not the system. Also heard if you keep working 1 system then the quality drops as well compared to the other systems in the constelation.
Dunno if it's true or not as I don't rat enough to really be able to tell.
