I'm trying the forum before I hit up the support team. I know there's some highly tech savvy pilots out there. I'm hoping they have a good suggestion for my predicament.
So, I recently moved to China... Don't ask. My US computer I'm discovering doesn't work well with the network here. In addition, you get all of the fun quirks of internet in China. Speed is way up and down at times. Some US pages don't load the first 3 times you enter them, that kind of stuff. And, I notice Eve crashes a lot. Suddenly says "socket closed" while I'm scanning down sites in null. I'm not super technical. And I don't feel like buying another "local" computer. Internet company here says it's my US hardware- which could be true- but is also an easy excuse. My speed test says 100mb much of the time, but feels like 2mb.
So here's the possibility I'm considering: Should I try installing the "Chinese" version of Eve- would that make any difference here? Is there some other setting on my computer that would help it to run better? Should I just try to get a new network card for China?
I know this question has several aspects- internet, hardware compatibility, eve client, etc. Any one have experience with this?
Thanks,
TA

I play from an island in the South China Sea and have a 0.8 mb connection (maybe 1.2 mb in the small hours). It's usually stable. If it does go screwy then it's usually borked for a day or two, I'm guessing some network hop goes tits-up.
But I don't think it's bandwidth - check the consistency of your packets getting sent and received if you know how.
Edit: does anyone know how to throttle win10 updates or even put them on 'only when i say so' mode? I have a wired connection, and don't feel all that comfortable in regedit? |

In the windows 10 network settings (at least for wifi) there should be an option to tick "this is a metered connection" and it should put most windows updates on hold till you say so. Might have to scroll around to find it, they made it a mess, but its in there. |

socket closed is a connection error, a crash is something else typically the client will lock up and/or disappear, or you might get a message from windows saying eve.exe has stopped working or something like that.
also note that Chinese eve has it's own separate server

Ok, good to know. Connection error is more related to internet than the Eve client I'm supposing. What do you think about trying China Eve server by installing "Chinese eve"? Perhaps the connection is better? Chinese websites of course run way better than US ones here- so maybe that's a possible answer to this.
Regardless, thanks for the input. |

Thanks for the suggestion- I checked the packets after you suggested it and it seems as though there's zero packet loss, if I'm doing it correctly. I assume your eve client is the Chinese version? Or is it the US version?
Thanks for your time. |
