There certainly are plenty of RP corps. I recommend joining the channel "OOC." You'll find some people to help there.

Thanks for the replies everyone and for the support. As a newbro I'm excited for the journey. I will probably try to get my feet wet in pvp before really calling myself a merc and probably just join a pvp rp corp. |

You don't have to roleplay the wizards. You can always roleplay as the space guy, doing space things. For the glory of something or other.
(BTW, the moment you log in and do something, you are *already* roleplaying. Some of us, myself included, go even further and take on an even more elaborate persona beyond 'space dude doing space things')

Amazing coming from a character that hasn't killed a single thing ever. Way to forum warrior.
If the OP is interested in real roleplay, there is some out there. Ushra'Khan will roleplay Minmatar vs CVA Amarr roleplayers. It is all nice good natured fun. RP in the mercenary world might be a bit empty...I mean...what is there to roleplay?
There are RP channels and such too where regular speaking isn't really allowed. You need to pretend you are really a spaceship captain, and really tired and needing a drink....etc. See channel "Deck23" if this floats your boat.

Stuff gets retconned constantly, the "lore community" is actively hostile to outsiders, and most of it is literally just poorly conceptualized fanfic (especially the official stuff). The company keeps firing whichever dev happens to volunteer (literally volunteer, as they have to do it in their spare time unpaid) to take charge of the lore. The whole "EVE is real" thing is really the thing that represents the core of EVE, all of the not real stuff is just kind of embarrassing. All that said, it's your game, your experience to shape for yourself. If that's what gets your rocks off, make it work for you.

The thing about Eve Online roleplay is that you have to back your claim with gameplay.

This really, the line between gameplay & RP is quite thin in EVE online. If you want to RP a mercenary, you have to be a mercenary. In EVE if you want to RP something, you have to support it by gameplay, else you won't be taken serious. So in a way, RP flows from your gameplay. With that in mind, many things in EVE are actually RP without it feeling forced. When someone ganks you, it isn't OOC or something, no it's part of the game, suicide-gankers are a real threat, born out of the might, power & wealth of a bored capsuleer seeking thrills & making credits. Part of the close connection of gameplay & RP is that we are immortal by lore, we cannot simply die by being shot or blown up, when it happens, we come back to life, a part many other online games struggle with in RP.
In short, if you want to RP a mercenary, I would advice you to join an merc corp, learn how they work & pick up tips from them to be a good PVP mercenary pilot.

Another secret about Eve Online roleplay is that you are already roleplaying the moment you decided on what you want to do in the game and start doing it.
You want to be a multi-trillionaire in Eve Online and started daytrading? Congratulations, you are roleplaying.
You want to gank miners for the heck of it? You are roleplaying.
You want to start wars for fun and profit? You are roleplaying.
You want to be the greatest solo pilot in the cluster with a million solo kills on your killboard every year? You are roleplaying.
Everyone roleplays in this game. Trader, miner, explorer, warlord, pirate, privateer, scammer, spy, professional heckler, they are all roles that we chose to play.
So how does a 'roleplayer' differ from an ordinary Eve player who is already roleplaying? The answer is that the 'roleplayers' add layers to their characters, properly define the masks they wear and make concrete their motives. The difference between an Eve pirate and a 'roleplayer' pirate would be the Eve pirate will destroy the other guy's ships for the killmarks and the loot, while the 'roleplayer' pirate will kill that other guy's ship for killmarks and loot so that he can accrue assets and gain experience in order to go and take revenge on this other player who podded him three years ago, etc etc etc. and will even put restrictions on exactly what kind of ship he will fly and what targets will he consider to be off-limits for personal values/ethical reason or etc.

Along a similar vein to Edmund's post most everyone in New Eden RP's to one extent or another. One of Eve's strengths is that neither immersion nor suspension of disbelief is disrupted by OOC conversation.
But just saying that everyone RP's is not entirely accurate either. Joining Eve is more like changing one's name and moving to a new place. Make new friends and enemies and develop new ways of being.
You may still have contact with the place where you lived before, but that doesn't change the fact that you are a person in this new place as well.
I feel like I should say something that is slightly amusing at this point. Nothing comes to mind though.
Se la vie.

This is EVE RP's greatest strength and most frustrating weakness at the same time. On the one hand, the RP flows naturally from the gameplay and our 'respawning' and general murderous attitude makes sense. The idea of the capsuleer is really psychologically compelling and interesting, and opens up some interesting character development options.. until you realize that none of it really matters, and here's why.
Immortality means our stories are essentially meaningless and boring, and we have the indifference/insanity of a greek god. You don't exactly get Star Wars-esque space drama, because nothing matters. Nobody actually dies, except very many 'baseliners', non-capsuleers that the capsuleers are so different from that they essentially casually don't care about them. And it's hard for your character to feasibly be anything but a monster in the eyes of most people when you consider how many people they kill and order to die for their amusement (since, in character, nullsec wars for example are still 'for fun'), so the avenues you can take for RPing a well-developed character that is consistent with the universe are somewhat limited. I personally RP from my gameplay, which means I'm a combat pilot in wormhole space, however, it's a bit Abradolf Lincler-ish (if you've watched Rick and Morty) because he's not a sociopath, tries to just be a normal person but the only thing he enjoys doing entails constantly violating his morals. Other players simply embrace the crazy and their characters become massive sociopaths.. but if everyone's either an angsty hypocritical whiner or a total psycho, things can get stale quick. Especially if those angsty whiners and psychos like to sit around all day and talk about the weather because it's hard to construct anything other than housewife-like melodrama when, again, nothing you do to the other immortals really matters..
Anyway, regarding corps (I swear that rant was related!), you'll want to keep in mind that "RP corps" are subject to the same paradox. That means that there are essentially two types of them: RP-PVP corps that tend to be sociopathic in character, like, say, True Slave Foundations or Coreli Corp. And the second type are the purely fantasy ones..the corps that are basically just alt corps made for RP purpose for particular characters.. sometimes these corps will become public and attract small groups of players, but they're usually laughably bad at the game, often just highsec mining, whilst declaring with gusto and bravado their wars against other 10 man mining corporations in highsec.
In my opinion, the RP-PVP groups are just better suited to the realities of the game and what makes sense with RP (unless the corp in the latter category are, for example, miners and RP as miners, and you like mining, in which case it works, but not so much if they are miners pretending to be mercenaries, in which case it is just considered funny). The downside is that if you want to RP your character well, your character has to essentially take into account your occupation especially if it involves kill mails, and in a way they become their role, so making a complex character who isn't a stereotype becomes more challenging. I hope this helps you make your decision!
Only the liberty of the individual assures the prosperity of the whole.
And this foundation must be defended.
