Well, its not part of the Spurty-nebula .. that's just a slap and tickle from the Milk-way ---- CONCORD arrested two n00bs yesterday, one was drinking battery acid, the other was eating fireworks. They charged one and let the other one off. |

In the original story... maybe from the old intro, I forget, it was said that travellers to New Eden stared at alien skies, that they couldn't match what they saw to any known galaxies or systems seen from the colonised parts of the milky way. It was also said that New Eden could even be in a completely different dimension.
So I vote for none of those because whatever galaxy the New Eden system is in, is completely unknown to us... New Eden is the equivalent of unknown (wormhole) space to us. It could be on the other side of the universe, it could be a few thousand light years away hidden, it could be in the past, the future or in a completely different dimension entirely.
But basically, no one knows... that's my vote. |

Also, we have really dumb names for these galaxies. There are two many slow ones and not enough round ones and one more than too few of the bright ones. If I had designed this it would have been at least several times more pretty and slightly more useful.
Also again, I like contests. You had a good idea!

First off, new Eden dosen't resemble a milky way type galaxy, due to it's size and layout of stars. For example, the center stars don't comprise of super giant stars. The stars are randomly scattered and dosen't form long spiral arms. There is a lack of super massive black hole in the center. There is only 7500 star systems, unlike the usual billions... The size of it is very small... If I was infront of a computer I could go into great details. BUT I'm at work on my Iphone wanting to stab it with a sludge hammer...
Anyone with an iPhone try...just try and write anything on these forums, then you'll know my pain!
The ever so slight problem with your theory is we only have access to a tiny part of our galaxy. You can see the galactic core out in 0.0. |

Just to let you know, the area we play in, in EVE, is not a Galaxy. The 7500 systems we have access to are known as a star cluster, and are just a tiny tiny party of the overall Galaxy that that star cluster lies in. This is what I mean when I say the idea of even exploring an entire galaxy is really hard.
Edit >_> ops someone already explained that above me.

New Eden doesn't have nearly enough stars to be a galaxy (The Milky Way has ~400 million stars). It's a small stellar cluster. Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

I'll give you that mainly because I don't actually pay attention to the background. More concerned with NOT DYING in 0.0... Is there anything stating that we've mapped only a part of the galaxy? (with the exception of WH space)

The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy 100,000-120,000 light-years in diameter containing 200GÇô400 billion stars. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milky_Way

Globular clusters, or GC, are roughly spherical groupings of from 10,000 to several million stars packed into regions of from 10 to 30 light years across. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_cluster
Hey! Thanks for the definitions, BUT I stated your points out in my post. (except for the first) I just failed to actually mention the type of galaxy...

Star clusters are not a type of galaxy. Star clusers always exist within a galaxy. There are no lone star clusters between galaxies which is what you were implying by saying all of the galaxies listed were way to big to be new eden. Well you are right, they are all way too big to be new eden because a star cluster must exist within a galaxy. ;D Ferox #1 |

It's in alternative universe since Eve cluster doesn't have newtonian physics. So it could be alternative universe's "Milky Way" galaxy. |

Not only is there star clusters between galaxy's, but there's also evidence of what's known as Intergalactic stars (that's stars between galaxy's... )
A simple google search can answer this, but I'll save you the trouble and post just some of the sites I dug up.
http://spacefellowship.com/news/art16985/astronomy-question-of-the-week-where-are-the-nearest-islands-of-stars-.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intergalactic_star So on this note, it can also be determined that New Eden could be a large group of clustered intergalactic stars. Thus not being on the map...

Can we get CCP in here to answer this themselves, since they created the damn thing??? Make ICE deplete and re-spawn just like roids. That alone would stop botting. (It'll upset the goons, so that will NEVER happen) |
