Seriously, it's been 7 years.
What the heck? Like, this is the most blatant and obvious banner for how CCP operates and what they expect from subscribers.
Doesn't this stand out to anyone at CCP? This is one of the first things new players see.....?
Is there a CSM I can vote for who's entire platform is to open the door? I vote for the "Open the damn door party". |

I do want a revisit to WiS. However! New players shouldn't see a feature like CQ. It's misleading and a disappointment. |

And do what? Play barbie?
The whole walking in station thing is pointless. There is nothing to do whilst walking around that you can't do whilst docked in your ship. A massive time sink of dev time for a heap of naught.
Thats why it got put on the back burner indefinitely.

So if you could suddenly walk in the stations, like "Surprise here you go!". You are saying you wouldn't walk around in every type of station that there is to check out? I find that hard to believe. Lore is cool, EVE Lore is really cool. I for one would love to check out a Blood Raider Station. |

A lot of people would explore the stations because the insides of them would be pretty.
Once that's done, there's the usual sandbox problem of "there's nobody playing" in most stations, so outside of hubs, there would very rarely be anyone to use more social aspects of the stations.
You can't really introduce risk to them, because you introduce other problems: Assassin toons would never be worth killing. They would be alts without implants because CONCORD mechanic or whatever. Stations are nice things for people with real lives. If you dock in one, you can step away from the game for a while without worrying about getting shot. If we can suddenly kill each other in stations, they stop being nice things for people with real lives.

I would like to see a bar (pub) behind the door where you can socialise with other players that have docked at the station, or talk to freinds in the bar over com stations... buy alcohol..
it would just add more content to the game, there would also be windows where you could see outside of the stations and see ships coming and going...
you also have dancers dancing in the background with a dance floor.

That door is there as a monument of sorts reminding CCP and the rest of us just what is important to the overwhelming majority of the EvE player base.
If it bothers you that much simply convince yourself that the door once lead to the gathering area for the now defunct FPS game DUST 514. Since that game no longer exists and walking through that door would cause you to fall into the great digital abyss and be lost forever CCP keeps it locked for your own protection. |

You don't know how wrong you are on this.
At the time, CCP was working on at least one other MMO, and the WIS stuff was being developed by that crew. WIS was one of the new features being developed, and it was taking almost no resources at all from those that deal with space stuff. It was also a really popular request, with a great many supporting it. It was only when it rolled out with the store being the main feature, introduced Aurum with absolutely grotesque Real Money costs on vanity items, and then a memo leaked that suggested they were considering items to increase in space combat effectiveness (specters of Pay to Win) that the popularity took a hit and the super vocal minority that is EVEs Ultra dedicated PvP group were able to toss enough hissy fit to be heard over those who wanted the feature. In that brief moment EVE over reacted and took the feature completely off the drawing board, scrapping all of the plans that didn't represent an immediate revenue stream, leaving us with the occasional update to the gods-be-damned store and nothing else.
It would be nice if they would revisit some of the old plans for social areas and expanded station services they once had. |

You forgot the 'we're going to spend 18 months working on wis and do absolutely nothing to fix the completely broken aspects of the game in that time' part of the memos. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have the spaceship part of this spaceship game be the priority, not the second life clone space barbie part.

So, here's the problem with WiS.
The only thing more popular with Eve Players than opening the door and iterating on WiS is *not* doing that. The whole fiasco that was the Incarna release has everyone at CCP unwilling to touch that due to the risk analysis being about one sentence that says "go try defusing a bomb while drunk, that's less likely to blow up in your face."
Basically in order for CCP to do anything with Walking in Stations they're going to need some entirely other game to justify the work effort on it, and so far every attempt CCP has made at some kind of FPS game has fallen flatter than a pancake under a hydraulic press. |

WIS is still pretty popular, it's just that the PvP gun bunnies are more vocal than the vast ocean of players that actually like the game portions of the game.
The World of Darkness game was driving most of the WIS stuff, and it does seem likely they over promised on features there. At this point they would have to create a whole team just to do WIS, secondary game or no secondary game.
Which does not mean they can't. They just likely won't. |

Thats just it. How long would you do it for? Five minutes? Ten? An hour at the most. Then you'd turn it off because it gets in the way and is 100% unnecessary. You can already sit and drink with your friends and guess what, they dont have to even be in the same station as you. Just start a chat channel. Why go through the barbie bullshit?
If you don't realise you'd quickly get bored of a station where there is no function but walking around then you're only lying to yourself.

If it was just a scene you could go into to interact with agents it would not require another game. They already have the captains quarters, it would be the same, just bigger and themed to the race/faction. |

I find most of these arguments to be repetitive, old, obsolete, boring and without any value to the first point made.
People are rallying behind a 7-year-old argument that states that the company should focus on bugs and balances and not be trying to create several games at once, which they have! And guess what!?!?! In 7 years, they will still be focusing on EVE bugs and balances Ships and SOV, Ships and SOV, repeat. That part of EVE is now part of the gameplay, CCP has people allocated to that indefinitely.
But being able to walk into a station in the first person and see the universe they have created still has weight and value to be considered. Or else people would not waste so much time and Isk on character portrait aesthetics. People would not identify with fictional factions or races.
All I am advocating is a pub. A simple pub. Themed to the race or faction. Perhaps being able to interact with mission agents would be a good and simple way to use it. |
