I know this thread will get locked and rightly so, but before it does; what's with the insane amount of necroing that's been going on lately? I'm starting to suspect that it's being done deliberately by a few disgruntled peeps.

I've noticed some ancient threads come back to the front page without someone bumping, then ofc, someone comes along and replies to it and gets ZOMG NECRO!!1!

I'm not offended by it, or angry. Just curious. Four year old threads, one would presume, should be dead and buried. And so far, all these thread (from what I've seen) were made in 2003. Perhaps an angry alt of the OP of those threads decided to raise them again.

I get annoyed every time. Maybe because there is no point to those thread since anything written in them is no longer accurate today. And then people start responding to them without noticing they are old, and then I have to watch those stupid thread bounce back and forth all over the first page.

Edited by: Tek''a Rain on 18/05/2007 10:12:01 a flux of new people hitting the forums?
Seems many of the dead-waking posts are people searchings for information.. unfortunatly, they are searching with the built in eve search device. try searching for.. say, "cloaking device" something you need some info on, right? If you apply normal logic of search engies, those first entries that pop up are going to be the newest or most useful.. and what the eve searching engine comes up with is often the opposite.
/me bookmarks and marks calender to necro thread*
A smarter search engine would go down well, maybe along with the MyEve rebuild in the pipeline. Perhaps a time based flag that will come up on old posts when you try to post. Not an outright Lock after a certain age, but a bit of a "hey, this is an awful old thread, doncha think?" kinda warning.

How about the fact that you need to use effing google or eve-search to find something? That'd explain why this board has lots more necroing than others --

What baffles me is when people necro a 4 year-old thread and reply to it as if it was current, seeming not realising that the game has changed massively since then.
Leaves me wondering, are they trying desperately to be funny, or are they really that ******* stupid?

Edited by: Miss Anthropy on 18/05/2007 11:40:30 Yeah, I'd noticed that about the EVE Search feature. I'm surprised the devs don't delete threads after a certain period. Surely they must be taking up a significant amount of space (although disk space is cheap as hell these days, back in 2003 it wasn't)?
Oh well, my curiosity is over for now. Time to go complain about something else. Either that or I can go laugh at SkyFlyer's face some more.

i suggested that very same thing, and some mod or other posted 'IBTL' before locking the thread.
i do wonder where they find them... then i realised... here. Suddenly the pieces all fell into place.
