Edited by: Chruker on 18/05/2007 16:54:15 Hi
- The patch nuked all my client side stored preferences (overview settings, window locations, color settings etc). - To make it even worse, it now fails to store the color settings, so I'm stuck with the crappy default setting (I hate the transparency btw.) - My NeoCom is aligned to the right however when I try to have windows snap to the left side of the screen, the snap still leaves space for the NeoCom. - IGB bookmarks and trusted sites setting are gone too (the files are still there, but the game cant find them yet again). ----- http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online ----- Top wishes: - No daily downtime - Faster training on sisi - Updated data export - Speedup IGB table rendering |

I see that the storage location for the entire cache directory have changed to: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE
Not Good. Three problems with this:
1. Local settings folder is abused enouth has it is, i've seen it run into several gigs before, i don't want eve makeing it bigger / annoying to clean.
2. Will running both TQ and SISI from the same cache cause problems?
3. I want my windows virtual memory on one physical disk (c:) and my Eve + Eve's cache running off anouther disk (e:) this is mostley for performance reasons if your gonna change it i want an option to put it where i want it, not where Eve thinks it should be.

1. This is a Vista requirement(user files such as cache need to go in the user directory), you'll have to deal with it. This also means EVE will be able to be run outside of administrator mode.
2. Good question.
3. See #1. You could always move your user directory. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

Well, since the cached method calls are in subdirectories based on IP adresses (one for TQ and one for SISI), that shouldn't give any problems. However the settings files would be shared, which could get bad when if the test server suddenly changes the file format. ----- http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online ----- Top wishes: - No daily downtime - Faster training on sisi - Updated data export - Speedup IGB table rendering |

Just set *.dat files(C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\settings) to "read only" after loging on(at the character selection screen)...

You don't have to run Eve in administrator mode, thats only if you want it to be cache files placed in the CCP/Eve directory.
Otherwise its perfectly fine int he VirtualStore folder, its the exact behavior applications like Eve should have.
Please don't change the directory for the cache files ;-(

Wait so they are going to store the entire cache under that folder?? What about people who copy their client to play with 2 accounts?
Will this cause problems with conflicting files? ---

:o you dont have to copy your client to run with 2 accounts, thats only needed if you want to play on sisi
you can run as many accounts as you want with 1 installation ___________________________________

VirtualStore is a temporary hack, even if it works it needs to be changed.
Its not a hack, its the correct functionality of Vista.

Sigh this is so annoying I just submitted a bug report ... guess it might be wrong since the prefs.ini now exists in two places, but the filthy local user settings one is used

TBH the Virtual Store in Vista is a joke... it's the no1 contributor for compatibility issues.
I turned it off and untill every application I use is fully supported I wont be turning it back on. --------------- What! Caldari have dps now... noooo Aye, T2 HAMs FTW!!!!! |

With all due respect, it's a hack. To make UAC bearable old programs need to work in limited user mode, hence VirtualStore. Any modern Windows app needs to properly store its user data in the proper user folder; this is the solution and virtualization is the hack. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

I'd be shocked if very many vista users actually have UAC enabled anyway. The first thing I ever did with vista was disable it. --------------

Actually it does that already on one of my machines (but not on the other strangely) but I applaud CCP for following the rules. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Looks like this one is fixed in the 32306 one :-)

This problem is still there.
Finally, since you (=CCP) are moving the settings folder, can you please have the patch program move the files. I'll bet a lot of people would be happy not having to recreate every setting (preferences, overview settings, bookmark folders(?)) ----- http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online ----- Top wishes: - No daily downtime - Faster training on sisi - Updated data export - Speedup IGB table rendering |

True, and many people have 'My documents' on C: this disk must never run out of space ;-) its an old M$ quirck.

2. Will running both TQ and SISI from the same cache cause problems?
I can see it creating problems now, as there can be diffrent data in the cache that makes the tranquility client crash or create client lag trying to make sence of it. Never share Test data with production data you can never guarantee 100% it will work

Well you can do this now by manual changing the location of your 'my documents' unless CCP is not using the system variabeles which would be bad but i havent checked the client so im assuming they are good for now ;-)
