Don't forget your towel.
You sass that hoopy Douglas Adams? Now there's a frood who knew where his towel was. You are invited to join your fellow hitch hikers in mourning the loss of the late great one. Join in on towel day to show your appreciation for the humor and insight that Douglas Adams brought to all our lives.
What do I do?
Carry your towel with you throughout the day to show your participation and mourning.
When do I do it?
May 25th.
Where do I do it?
Everywhere.
Why a towel?
To quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
A towel, it says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitch hiker can have. Partly it has great practical value - you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or to avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mindboggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you - daft as a bush, but very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.
More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag (strag: non-hitch hiker) discovers that a hitch hiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitch hiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitch hiker might accidentally have "lost". What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel is is clearly a man to be reckoned with.

I believe I will be returning from school on the 25th... I'll see if I can convince my father to rig his car with towel-flags.
Perhaps some homemade bumper stickers displaying D.A. quotes, as well...

I have a job interview to a game company on that day.
Oh gods it's gonna be a fun day, and i believe i could never respect the man enough, but the comedy value of being dressed up for a job interview and having a towel with you would have enough comedy value to make the late great comedy genius giggle up above

Does spending all day in a Dressing Gown count? It's made from the same material as my towel. --------------------

Just imagine later on friday after the jobinterview(like that wasn't enough), going to a bar
"Hey there beautiful." "Oh h...what's that?" "This? A long island icetea." "No i meant on your shoulder." "Oh, it's a towel." "And you're carrying a towel in a bar because..." "Isn't it obvious?" "Not...really." "It's national towel day." "Riight...i'm gonna go...over there."
Now that i think of it, a towel in a bar is the MOST useful item to have

Douglas Adams was the author of the greatest triolgy known to man. It consisted of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (recently made into a movie), The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life, the Universe and Everything, and So Long and Thanks for All of the Fish.
He also penned Mostly Harmless, Dirk Gently's Slightly Holistic Detective Agency and The Long, Dark Teatime of the Soul.
His work is frequently funny, mildly nonsensical and must be read with a healthy lack of respect of convention.
He also inspired the book Starship Titanic by Terry Gilliam (of Monty Python, Brazil and 12 Monkeys fame), but it sucked.
