I observed something interesting in lowsec backwoods Molden Heath (where my main char spends a fair amount of time) and am wondering if others have had the same experience.
Lowsec MH is mostly deserted. That's a big part of the attraction of it. You can go hours without seeing a soul. That largely dampens the normally suicidal risk of mining in lowsec, so I do so from time to time to avoid hauling materials out to build stuff out there.
Imagine my surprise, then, to discovery that NPC miners from two different corps were in the process of mining the very last asteroids in my home system, and had pretty much nuked the adjacent systems completely as well. Belt after belt after belt simply gone without a trace.
If lowsec constantly suffers from low population because the rewards aren't worth the risk, this seems like it's in need of a bit of balancing. I'm willing to mine out there and make myself a big, juicy target because almost no one does and, as such, the rocks get really big. When I literally cannot find anything to mine because the belts are hit harder by rat miners than those in highsec, that seems suspect.
I suppose it's possible that the mother of all player mining corps hangs out here in the time periods when I'm at work, but since the NPCs were still swarming like bees this evening, I suspect it's them.
I realize I could shoot them, but I made the mistake of setting up shop in territory of my own faction and don't want to wreck my standings. Sure, I could move, but I like the neighborhood.
Just seems like from a load-balancing perspective, stripping resources from an area which is virtually depopulated already isn't really wise.
Anyone else seen this elsewhere in lowsec? |

I have observed this behaviour as well. I agress the NPC fleet and warp off before the cavalry comes - but they just keep respawning. My favorite and secluded spots have been mined out for weeks now. |

Sounds like maybe it's a bug, the NPC's definitely shouldn't be stripping the asteroid belts bare. I suggest that both of you along with any Corp / Fleet members you fly with submit a Support Ticket and Bug Report asap.

DMC Its not a bug. They do this in high sec too, since the release of the feauture. It depends on the day of the week, number of belts in system and type of mining ships they use.
A couple NPC Ventures in a system with a lot of belts wont do much. A fleet of NPC Machinaws in a system with a few belts can easily mine out the entire system on Mondays and Fridays.
You can chase them away by attacking them, but often they come back after ~15min. |

DMC Sadly it's not. They mine till nothing is left and they jump system, haulers gather up the ore they mine every few minutes and warp off and when they disappear the ore goes with them permanently and they're too hard for anyone to go out and fight.

See, that right there sounds buggy to me. Anyway, if enough players submit bug reports about it, that might incite CCP into nerfing the NPC Mining Fleets.

There'e not just stripping belts bare. They are stripping entire systems bare. However, as you move from 0.4 ot 0.1 sec systems they become progressively more difficult to deal with. Usually requiring a small gang of well equipped and supported ships to take them out. I'm not sure if they are worth the effort. Most people I know who have taken them seem to think it's not worth the trouble. Though, if they compete for mining resources to such an extent we might have no choice.
The usual cheezy tactic is to agress and warp off. But it doesn't always work.

Hi, I have the same here in Essence Region. Used to mine here daily in 0.4-0.2sec systems, which are no totally stripped, or sometimes a few small rocks left. Belt after belt and system after system.
Today I checked directly after server downtime, and again most of these systems completely empty, sometimes some NPC Retriever fleet still hanging around. How I understood after server downtime the belts should reappear again?
I filed a complaint / support ticket to CCP, my main fun is in lowsec mining, and now all these belts are empty, really flew around for two hours checking all the connected solarsystems.
You got any response from CCP? |

I spend a lot of time and effort choosing my mining systems.
That being said after finally finding that perfect deserted .5 system with massive plagioclase rocks I was not happy to log back in the next day and find all the belts had been stripped by a swarm of astral retes.
I have begun to suspect it is some sort of sideways nerf to miners. |

Yes but I have my dual subscription mainly for mining, I just like this a lot. I dropped support ticket at CCP, because if it stays like this I may have to look for some other game. High-sec belts seem to be unaffected? CCP wants to stimulate the AFK Orca's drone-mining even more? |

Contact me with a location and a relevant time and I will certainly bring combat capable ships to destroy the NPC miners for you. Anyone brave enough to mine in low sec deserves support. |

I normally mine in exclusively.5 systems (which technically is Highsec) I have definitely seen it there, I can't speak for .6 and above but if it is not prevalent in .6 or .7 they may be better for me. |

Hanging in high sec belts is just not so much fun, the problem is the belts are most of the time already completely empty, there is nothing anymore even to shoot at. Sometimes a fleet of NPC -retrievers. |

From what I've seen this is the way the NPC mining ops behaved back when they were first loaded on day 1. But then shortly there after, I noticed a behavior change over a few unannounced nerfs to thier mining yield/ program logic. Things were manageable until the upgrade fail that happened a some weeks ago. CCP said that something went wrong and that they reloaded the database in an extended downtime. Well thats when the NPC mining ops went back to default and now they are again at thier obnoxious mining ability.
Just the pattern I've seen. Hope it helps. |

What actually happens with the ore these NPC-corps mine, is it used for something, or just taken out of the game-world? |

It's taken out of the game world. NPC's don't sell or on the market.
Also, yea. You have to be brave to mine in lowsec. Though, it can be economical if you do it right and take precautions. Sometimes, mining in lowsec or nulsec is necessary when you need to cut down on your logistical tail. It's often easier than hauling in the hulls for your favorite PvP ships. When you look at it that way, local mining for local hull manufacture makes sense. |

As CCP is losing subscriptions (due to them screwing the players), they need more and more money, so they screw up your gameplay to make you buy a PLEX. If I were you I'd just unsub until CCP fixes it. |

Have noticed lowsec belts stripped. In null the belts n rocks are bigger. On npc station, within docking ring it's possible to waste their hauler with a confessor and dock before their backup fleet can hurt you. They leave as soon as you dock so you can undock immediately and scoop skin or ore depending on whether it was arriving or departing station. After doing this a few times procurers get replaced by skiffs. I guess it's making NPC space unprofitable or slightly less easy to mine in. Yes, corps do mine in low/npc null, it works out financially at any level as long as you're not a 'press butan recieve bacon' simpleton who just sells the ore.

Are you psychic? How do you know CCP's master plan? Corporate espionage? High tech computer models? Is there a voice in your head telling you these things?
Also, you said EVE is losing subscriptions. Would you happen to have any factual data we could take a look at to support this assertion? Thanks in advance. |
