Our game, Dangerous is finally out after nearly 3 years of development by a two-man indie studio, Binary Helix.
If you want a single-player EVE with a grand sci-fi story, look no further. It's available for iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC, and soon, Android. We're especially interested to hear what EVE veterans think of the game's combat and difficulty. You'll be familiar with much of the combat mechanics though we've simplified and augmented it. For example, you can also fly manually using Newtonian physics to dogfight. You can have up to two wingmen flying with you, and there is a risque romance mini-game to go along with the epic hardcore sci-fi story.
The AI is especially novel considering that it has to handle a ship equipped with any type of module. Who knows, maybe EVE Online can borrow some UI ideas from Dangerous?
Try it out for free.
Demo for PC and Mac available at: http://whoisdangerous.com
Reviews:
"Dangerous is without a doubt (no, seriously) the most robust space adventure available for iOS right now." - 148apps.com
"If you're an avid fan of simulation games with a taste of adventure, this game might just be right for you. Not only does it have beautiful sounds and exciting space adventure, this game was made by an Indie group!" - unboundgamer.com
"...the heroGÇÖs exchanges with key story NPCs are consistently entertaining thanks to well scripted sci-fi humor, and the gameGÇÖs wingman relationship system definitely comes through ... An astounding level of depth takes Dangerous where few space sims have gone before on iOS, offering factional allegiance and NPC partner systems that are sure to whet the genre fanGÇÖs appetite." - ifanzine.com
Dangerous is an epic 3D open and living world space sandbox combat RPG with an engaging story. You have been awoken from cryo sleep a century later, and must discover the truth. Are you the feared war criminal who will destroy all life or the savior of the universe? Gather your wingmen and travel the galaxy in search of answers. Along the way, you'll encounter a Universal AI, a shadow group pulling history's strings, a princess, a schizophrenic robot, a beautiful lieutenant of the Royal Navy, a fearsome mercenary, a suicidal slave, and a playboy fighter ace.
Dangerous is a game that is 3 years in the making! It features:
- 3D real-time sandbox game built with Unity game engine - metallic shader, lighting, particle effects, lens flare, explosions, fx - space combat RPG with extensive skill tree - open and living universe where 600+ ships fly around autonomously - epic story with dialogue system that allows real choices - recruit 6 wingmen and 2 can fly with you at a time - even discover romance with another wing pilot - recruit 5 corporate pilots who can fly trade routes on your behalf - trade, fight, mine, pirate, scan for derelict ships and wormholes - many mission types: epic, freelance, dynamic, wingman acquisition, faction loyalty - deep combat mechanics, AI, and faction standings - 20+ ships, 180+ modules, 33 solar systems with a unique follow-through-warp mechanic - 15+ factions to vie favor or destroy - cinematic camera shows you the action when it happens - fly manually with or without Newtonian physics or use autopilots exclusively - 22 track theatrical-quality soundtrack by renown composer, Sean Beeson |

We're trying to get Steam to distribute it, but haven't heard back yet. Once we get enough reviews and attention, I think it'll be an easier case to make.
Would love to hear any impressions if anybody tries out the demo. |

"Demos are the full game except you can't spend your earned experience. If you like it, buy the game and you can load saved games from the demo version, so no time is lost!"
Heh. Why not let people spend a small fixed/capped amount of their XP in the demo to get a better taste of what would come later if they want to try the full version ? http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Contributor_name:Akita_T#Contributions_link_collection |

You can get quite a feel for the game without spending any XP. In fact, it might be an interesting challenge to finish the game without spending any. Though I think it would be very very difficult, I imagine it is possible if you know the combat mechanics and modules well enough. I did consider letting players spend a fixed amount, but that would take longer to program and test. But might be worthwhile now that we have a little more time on our hands. |

Who the f*** is 148apps.com, unboundgamer.com and ifanzine.com? Never heard of these people. Might as well ask Fred the Neighbor from down the street to write a review or even cousin Eddie to write one.
Google searches turn up almost nothing. I had to type in the EXACT web address before Google found anything. The site itself looks like it was created ten minutes ago.
I would not trust these people with my credit card, let alone my email address. The whole thing just screams phishing site.
Who knows, maybe EVE Online can borrow some UI ideas from Dangerous? Looks more like Dangerous could borrow some UI ideas from EvE Online instead. Sheesh, those screenshots look terrible. Like my post? Made you laugh or think? Maybe even offended or nausiated you? Then give a Like. They're free and oh so easy to give. |

148apps.com is one of the earliest iOS review sites. iFanzine is newer, but covers a lot more indie developers than the traditional outlets. I'd never heard of unboundgamer till I googled for reviews, but they have a bunch of reviews.
Quote:Google searches turn up almost nothing. I had to type in the EXACT web address before Google found anything. The site itself looks like it was created ten minutes ago. The game just coming out now might have something to do with the lack of reviews and links in Google. We're sending various mobile outlets review codes, but it's a tough sell considering the complexity of Dangerous is kind of like single-player EVE on a mobile phone. They're all used to 5-minute Angry Birds sessions. Also, the name is a bit ambiguous to search engines, but if you play the game, you'll understand the name.

As it says on our buy page, we don't store any credit card info since we use Paypal. Besides, there are two nice big demo links on the homepage. You don't have to pay anything to try it out.

People have complained about EVE's UI forever. We've tried to make it work on a mobile device no less. For one thing, I think the slider to control orbit distance is an improvement. Another is our use of the cinematic camera. Games like EVE and Dangerous are spaceship pron, so might as well make the most of it.
Your skepticism is understandable, but dig a little and you'll see we're just a couple of indie devs, no more, no less. |

Because it's a space game, and um, because it's single player? And because some EVE players might find it interesting due to its combat mechanics, story, or UI adaptations to the mobile space? Because the out of pod forum is for all things not EVE?
Actually, I'm pretty sure CCP are quaking in their boots right now at the thought of two indie developers taking over the MMO world starting with EVE Online. You just had to ruin it for us. |

Yes, and censorship usually hurts a game (what are they afraid of?). It's natural for people to discuss features and things they'd like to see. And most space game forums have special sections to discuss other space games even "competitors." Egosoft (X3), Starwraith (Evochron), and others allow it. |

Thanks for your thoughts! |
