I've just completed the tutorial and the noob missions that you get walked through. I'm not in the big wide world and cant find an agent to run missions for. I want to do combat missions, but so far the only agent I've found that will give me missions are errand runs. Is there a search I can use, or do I just fly around aimlessly?

eve-agents.com is great, but if you're new you will find the ingame map more useful: set it to "My Agents" (under My Information), and look for green blobs.

My favourite method of looking for agents is :
When in dock, hit the little blue "Show Info" icon on the corporation shield (the top-right corner of the screen). This brings up all the info of the NPC corporation that owns the station you are in.
Select the "Agents" tab. This will show a list of every agent employed by that company, divided into their separate divisions. If you expand a list you will see that it indicates which of those agents are available to you, at your current standings with that corp.
Some corps have more agents than others. Try to pick corps based on the type of missions you want to do. For example, I like combat missions and am currently in Amarr space, so I work for the Amarr Navy. They have plenty of Command and Security agents that meet my needs.
Have fun.

Using the people and places icon in your neocom you can search for any corp. Then as said above, click on the blue "i" by the corps logo. You can then look at all that corps agents by sub division. The Navy of your race will be a good place to start with.

You can set the map (F10) to show agents available to you. Basically systems with an agent you can use get highlighted in green. Bigger the green blob the more agents in system for you to access.
Mouseover a system to see details.
You are looking for Command, Security or Internal Security agents if you want combat oriented missions.
Find a nearby system with the appropriate agent type and set destination.
Good luck

In the sticky in the missions forum, there is a link to a list of the corporate divisions and what types of missions they give.

Learn social 3 and connections 2 to get more agents (I am new player too). This raises your corp standings and will open up a number of agents to you. I will prolly raise my connections to 3.
