Edited by: Ulysys Palann on 09/01/2004 22:05:42 here's what I've figured out about this hair loss BS, which I get to by the way.
This problem occurs mostly in game, and only the person having the problem even sees it, unless it another person with hair loss problems.
I've cleared the cache, reinstalled the game, tried different drivers, and even formatted and reinstalled winodws. nothing fixed it.
The problem, at least for me, only seems to occur on certain hair types and certain cloths(clothes are sometimes missing too.)
I went into the portrait editor and tried various hair styles and clothing, and they al show up fine in the character editor. but when i click next to name the character, where the actual portrait is made, some types of hair and cloths don't show up. so I'm thinking it has something to do with the creation of the actual portrait. just a theory.
post your system specs and maybe we can find a common thing that may be causing this to happen.
Athlon xp2400+, 512mb pc2100 ram, radeon 8500LE, gamesurround fortissimo II soundcard, MSI K7N2-L motherboard.

Hopefully you were fixing other problems and not just the hair after all that trouble

Im having this problem too. I'm getting the newest ATI drivers right now so I'll post back to see if that fixes the problem.

Have you noticed that the graphic over your sig is missing the U in communications. Is that intentional? Just thought I'd let you know.

NO hair? Missing textures on planets? Missing or wrong portraits? Well I had the same problems. It all started when I decided to download the full version of the EVE client. I think it might be missing some texture files. I fixed it by reloading from the CD and downloading the individual patches (patch 934-1352 and patch 1352-1360). Now the only problem i have is EVE wont save my keybindings, but that is another thread. |

I have had this problem ever since I upgraded from the Catalyst 3.7 to 3.9 drivers. I tried 3.8 but was getting random CTDs so I went back to 3.7. When I upgraded to 3.9, the hair loss problems started.
After running 1360 for a week, it got worse.. Now about 10% of the time when I try looking at people I have never seen before, the Avatar images come up blank or horribly garbled. Even planets are rendering with psychodelic colors. And about 1% of the time, my system is locking up or simply rebooting without warning. I am running a Radeon 7500.

I have had the same problem since the 1352 patch. I have a Radeon 9000, running Cat 3.9. I recently reformatted and went from Win2000 to WinXP. The problem persists.
It seems like CCP is using a particular ATI graphics extension that has been changed. Perhaps it's one that was coded incorrectly in the driver, and CCP worked around, and then got fixed.
Anyone who has tried to use OpenGL texture clamping on NVidia cards is familiar with problems like this...

no i think its a problem with all graphics cards or is to do with something else, my friend had exactly the same problems. Its a client side bug which happens to some versions of eve, sometimes pictures face the wrong way or even sometimes the pictures load as one big square

Are we talking about the hair slowly retreating over time, or do a few nanobots play a joke and shave a character when they sleep? Were the charcters with this problem created early in the game?
And how do clothes go missing? Wouldn't that change the rating of the game a bit?

What they are talking about is that on certain graphic cards, your own characters are bald.

Edited by: bugeye on 25/01/2004 19:44:33 I got the same problem, and it's not just the hair. other pic's are corupted or completly black (one example would be the pic for the wasp drone where it shows only 50% of the drone, the rest is missing).
my comp has a ATI 8500 Radeon with catalyst 4.1 driver on athlon XP 1800 + 512mb

Edited by: LoonyCakes on 31/01/2004 16:40:35 I just downloaded EVE, and have been trying to create a character for a few days now. I don't have any experience with what happens once you are in the game, but when you are creating a character your appearence will sometimes change when you go forward out of the character design screen, and also when you make the last step of creating a character. I have seen clothes disappear, hair disappear or change, head/shoulder/eye rotation change, etc. It's horribly discouraging to finally get your character the way you want, figure out the name you want, and then it changes at the last step and you have to wait 10 hours to delete the character so you can get the name back and try to fix it.
Downloaded client ATI Radeon 8500LE Catalyst 3.9 XP Home
I'm going to upgrade my drivers, although that doesn't seem to be the problem. From reading this thread it seems like it's just a client-side issue and once it's fixed the character will look right, so I guess I'll just go ahead and create it the way I want it and hope I can get it to look right later...

Aye. With the risk of someone slapping a ban on me for this: But - this could lead to the answer of an interesting question: Do the figures in EVE, our avatars, possess an anatomicaly correct body under those clothes...?

My character looks bald in his character sheet, and every single female portrait I look at has eye makeup all over her face. Well my upper left hand portrait is bald, naked and has messed up eyes. Oddly my large portrait is just bald. Also the portrait on my character selection screen is also bald/naked/wierd eyes. Running a ATI Radeon 9000 with catalyst 4.1
On a side note after going through a stargate my engines no longer glow, but after exiting a station they work again.
Anyone figure out a workaround or fix for either of these problems?
