How many threads haven't we read where people that have played the game for a modest amount of time, refer to a huge amount of EVE players as 'griefers' that 'has no honor' and so forth?
People coming straight from other 'mmo'rpg's where there are no consequences for your actions, and where you can happily afk grind because you don't have to worry about anything.
I dare to say the amount of threads dedicated to calling other people 'honorless' or worse have increased 100 times over the past years. It might just be me but I can't recall seeing as many 'wtf I got ganked' threads on these forums.
A lot of these 'species' that comes from fantasy games refer to people who kill other players for fun as people with 'social problems' and says stuff such as '
'you must be a wife beater' 'wtf do you kill people in RL too? 'I bet you have no friends you loser!' 'omg you coward you killed my unarmed hauler'
Yeah you get the idea. Now we know CCP in the past have listened to their player base and changed the game accordingly....sometimes at least. The stacking nerf came as lightning from a clear sky imo, didn't know anyone wanted that.
Anyhow, all these foreign species coming and often blatantly demanding that EVE should fit their 'I can only play 5 minutes a day why cant I fly a titan' ideology is causing some minor concern. Not that I think CCP will change EVE into a wow type of game, but they might introduce minor changes as a compromise.
I never ganked freighters in high sec, but I think its fun to hear about how people suicide themselves in Jita for treasure, and from what I hear Concord is getting buffed in order to make it impossible. And in 0.5 space you used to be able to actually kill the customs officials(and that was cool)but not anymore. If you accidentally do something wrong you're webbed, scrambled and jammed. Why make 0.5 as safe as 1.0? It doesn't make much sense.
Anyhow, I'm looking forward to reading the next thread about someone being treated 'unfair' by 'griefers', in the same way I'm looking forward to having my wisdom teeth extracted on Tuesday.
*I wish CCP would perhgaps implement in the tutorial a fictional gatecamp or something similar so these people understand that afk travelling through low sec, or flying industrials with billions of isk through jita is a silly idea*

Fun fact: given a long, long time, you can fly a Titan by only playing 5 minutes a day.
Oh, and whining about whining is still whining.

Not seeing a single rhetorical question. Also, what's the point of an enormous rhetorical question if not to whine? By their very definition, you're not looking for a reply because you already know the answer.

Not so. Log in for 15 seconds here, 15 seconds there on those short skill trains. Dedicate all remaining time to creatively playing the market in a targeted manner. It'll take you years, but training the skillset for a Titan alone takes years.

I know we're off on a huge tangent here, but it's quite possible to become disgustingly freaking rich just by playing the market.
The hard part will actually be finding someone to make and sell you a Titan. Although in the... what, 2 yrs? 3? it'll take you to train the skills from scratch, Titans will probably be a bit more common.

What she said. If you think the most effective ways to make isk are mining or missiong running think again.

Edited by: Gojyu on 03/06/2007 10:10:58 Edited by: Gojyu on 03/06/2007 10:07:00 1) Log on to eve only in order to change your skills- let's just say an average of 10seconds per day (you wouldn't even have that after the first few months) 2) Buy gtc's, sell them for isk. No idea how much a titan actually costs, so it'd be an awful lot of money 3) Buy a titan

Perhaps ccp should make eve a little more like wow, nothing quite beats having to work to reach the top of the game.

Well look what happened to Privateers. Destroyed because people in big scary alliances are unwilling to defend themselves, yet also unwilling to go back to npc corps where they belong. __________ If you think the game is rigged, why are you still playing? |

Or, destroyed because CCP's "high security" space was becoming no more secure than low security space? If they'd meant people to play that way then they wouln't have put it in in the first place! ----------------------------------------------- If you're reading this, Patch86 was too lazy to select his main.

Apparently someone doesn't remember the "OMG, he's got a BATTLESHIP!!!" days. I repeat, by the time you could train up to fly a Titan, you can have money enough to have a Titan.

I think that these problems boil down to people not understanding the rules of this game. Many new players assume that they are going to be safe in high security and even low security space. When they are unexpectedly attacked, they feel cheated because they believed that they were safe.
If these new players had understood the rules they probably would not have put themselves in a position to be attacked and might even have decided that this game was not for them.
The good news is that this is a self correcting problem. The mechanics of the game that are the subjects of this thread are not going to change much and those new players that disapprove of these mechanics have no choice but to move on.
I like your suggestion of updating the tutorial with examples of the harshest game mechanics. This would at least make the rules clear to new people. |

Wheres the hyperbole? Corps with no interest in PvP were being attacked by many 100's of PvPers they've never met before, and who have no agenda against them. That sounds like low sec to me.
I mean sure, if thats what CCP wanted thats fine. But if they'd wanted that, why would they have bothered with CONCORD?
Privateers had a frankly genius idea, and carried it out for as long as they could. My hat comes squarely off to them. But anyone who seriously thought CCP were never going to fix that loop hole were just wishful thinking. --------
