It's going to happen sooner or later. The monthly fees for Eve have been stable for years now, but costs must be increasing. Whilst I have no doubt that CCP are making a mint from the current pricing structure, are there any plans in the near to medium future to increase the subs? How does eve compare to other MMO's pricing plans anyway? |

actually the monthly fee for online games is in general going down.. so i highly doubt it..
any one actually know about the outcome of the lawsuit there was something about? it was about the legality of selling a online game and then charging a monthly fee, since it is already paid for in the first place.. i can't really remember what was the outcome:)

They don't sell you a game. They sell you a key, which you can use to access their service for usually 30 days. Client is free.
But yeah - EVE subcription price is pretty much in line with other MMO's, possibly on the higher end depending on your RL currency.

No company can afford to work for free. And everyone likes to get a payrise now and then. At least I do! So yes, there will be a increase sooner or later in the subsription price. It is simply bound to happend. Just as there are price increases on any ordinary things on the market. Cars, housing, food..
But why worry?? If my salary goes up, I can always handle a slightly higher sub fee. And its not that we will see an increase on 5-10 dollar.. maybe a dollar a month more.

Normally I think "who cares what BoB think? low life cheaters"
But now BoB are what? Trying to price dissenters who don't get to play for free out of Eve?
Is there any low BoB/CCP won't stoop to?

mmorpgs that charge a recurring fee (monthly, quarterly, yearly etc) are not charging repeatedly for the game software.
They are charging to access their servers and use their services. With CCP and EvE Online, the client is actually free, the first month is slightly more for setup costs, but that's perfectly acceptable.
And they do not sell you a game. Hardly any software companies sell software. They sell you a licence to use *their* software, within terms and conditions that are accepted by the end user before the software is allowed to be used. It is in no way different than monthly charging to other websites, gas, electricity or other such things.

Hum... it seems rather obvious to me, but somehow no one said it.
Eve maybe grows ? more people = more money in = no need to raise fees ?

Flip side of that is greater demand, greater popularity = more reason to bump it up a bit as they could probably get away with it if people are still willing to join and pay at its current price and more people = greater demand on there services
Plus they are a business at the end of the day, not doing it for the fun of it -----------------------------------------

Standard industry fee is 15 a month, all mmos on the horizon are shooting for that pricing point and with the haydays of mmos seemingly behind i doubt it will be going up anytime soon.
Course i could be wrong, but most mmos while doing decent are not very different from one another and after a spike see subscribers go down as people realize been there done that. Upping monthly fees would just have fewer players start playing, and have more drop off unless there is some real revolution in game play in the coming mmos out there.

Cost to run a MMO on the hardware side is only getting cheaper, they pay for their expansions in other ways, like take on additional projects.

What types of costs are increasing? Computer hardware seems to be getting cheaper by the year, as does storage costs and networking costs. |

they've said several times that they have hit diminshing performance returns with the present hardware. Any percentage increase in performance now would cost more than the equivalent when the server farm was smaller, the decreasing cost not withstanding.
personally i think eve's probably hit it's peak population in it's present form. Perhaps branding eve's graphics update as Eve 2.0 and promoting the **** out of it might reverse the trend.

Why on earth would they need or want to raise the price?
That would be a great way for them to shoot themselves in the foot. You think joebob casual eve player would shell out more beans for this game?
Steve the Hardcore Gamer would, but most of the player base is joebob casual eve player.

As Comparison and unless my google searches are very out of date,
I understand that World of Warcraft costs $14.95 /month, Vanguard costs $14.99 / month.
A Sony station pass costs $29.99 (from 1st july 07) which gives access to several Sony Games for 1 price.
EvE costs ~ $20/month (based on 14.95 Euro's and a current exchange rate of ~ $1.34 per Euro
This already makes EvE more expensive than most MMO's out there.

I think one of the biggest changes to the GTC system that was announced a few weeks back is that they will be stopping euro's buying GTC in dollars to fund their account.
i.e. i currently pay $38.99 for 90days, in the future I will probably have to pay Ç38.99 for 3 months which is a significant price increase depending on the current ú/$ and ú/Ç exchange rates.
This will result in my eve costs going up by as much as a third.
