Edited by: Anope on 05/06/2007 20:08:11 I'm pretty new to eve, Im curious as to how sovereignty works and why people dont just ignore it? If an alliance your at war with sets up POS's in systems that you have/had sovereignty in why care? all it does is change a shade on a sphere of influence website... I dont see how this affects you directly... then again im new, thought this would be the best place to ask about this... seeing as most of the people in this channel are active in this kinda stuff

Right now, you get a discount on fuel costs (25%) Upcoming patches will mean that if you hold sov you can do wizzy things with pos cynos, gate guns ect ect.

sounds cool, thanks m8, but still dont see how this would affect you, example BoB pos spams your home system. how does this affect you? except changing the Sovereignty. Coudlnt you just ignore it and go about your way?

Sovreignty gives you a reduction of fuel amounts and it allows you to build Outposts and Super-Capital construction yards. While you have sovreignty your stations are invincible aswell. POS also provide safe bases for your enemy to work out of, so destroying them makes the enemy's life more difficult.

theres also a sense of pride that goes with the dot on the map, even if yours is pink(can we get a different color please). System sovernty allows you to also build super capitals and of course to have a station in 00.

So if someone else has sovereignty then you cannot build a pos in that system?
Or do they destroy your POS, then build theres?

It's MMO Empire building Virtual Life type of stuff.
It's fun =-)

POS and stations/outposts are two different things. I think you mix something up. POS are a player-owned structures, something that can be anchored at a moon in space. You can't dock there, they are no stations, just some anchored structures and guns under a shield.
Easily speaking: If you have the majority of POSes in the system you get sovereignty, which allows you to conquer a real station/outpost in that system. Then the station is yours, you can control, who docks there etc. While you have sovereignty, your station is safe from being taken over.
If your enemies wants his station back, he tries to achieve sovereignty himself again by destroying your poses or deploying his own at free moons. (Easily speaking, there are some more details in it and little mistakes in my simplification)

In order to hold an outpost or station in 0.0 you need to hold sov. If you lose sov, someone can just simply take the station from you and then its theirs.

You also need sov to build outposts, and to anchor certain pos structures with more to come soon.

you cannot shoot a station unless you have sov. Therefore if you don't have sov as the station owner your in deep doo and if you don't have sov as the invader you better recheck your plans.

Indeed. The longer and stronger your hold on the territory is, the higher your grade of sovereignty. The higher your grade of sovereignty, the more toys you get to play with . All coming in Rev 2.0.

Nope, if they distroy your pos's or pos-spam the system, and you lose sov, then all they have to do is shoot your outpost down to minimal shielding, at that point the outpost become theres - they conquer it.
After that you will lose all docking rights, and unless those people remaining inside the station manage to evac assets, then all corp hanger contence will be taken by the new outpost holding corp when the corp office contracts expire.
sovereignty = serious stuff. -

As new as you are, the fact that you are in CA brings a whole level of humour to the subject that really wouldn't be there otherwise.

As opposed to them taking the station from you and it being yours.

What is annoying (apart from pos warfare, but that's a different topic) is how corporations (the one with the final blow to the shields) take over management of the station and not the Alliance as such.
The Alliance ingame mechanics aren't that fleshed out and it would be nice to see Alliance Level Roles grantable by "Leadership" status of the Alliance.

This has been resolved somewhat with Rev 2; corps will now be able to automagically transfer ownership of a station to another alliance corp. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

This is like the most incorrect forum to ask this in lol. I'm not complaining or anything. Just found it kind of funny and cool that the mod has allowed it to stay here.
