there i docked in jita IV-IV, i just came back from a journey into syndicate with my stabber to pick up some faction stuff some friendly locals sold cheap through contract system. Everything was fine, i returned to jita without any problems in my trusty fast ship and started to past my standart text in Jita Local, Modules and Munitions, and sometimes Minmatar chatroom: "hey there, WTS big sortiment of factiony shiny stuff in bio, contact me, helf (: "
so i waited, and finally i got a mail with someone interested
of course it was this kind of nice person:
http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0706/fu_scammer.jpg ****
after 5-10 minutes.... again, someone private chatting me with the same type of contract, of course this isnt the problem to avoid those scammers, but they are ruining your day if youre drunk ( i was never, but i know others who are ) or some other kind of "my head is away" . Could you not just remove this type of contract please? Would be really awsome.
i was away for a bit now, so if it already got solved someway then please correct me
**** oh and if someone could explain me how to post a link and rename it?
i only know this way:
[ URL ] w w w . e v e - o n l i n e . c o m [ / URL ]
but how do i write it when i want to call the link "linky" or "clicky", i havent got this point yet , would be great if someone could help.

Edited by: Disco Flint on 06/06/2007 10:11:39 My 80 contract-ignore slots were filled within a week or so and my attempt to ignore noob-corps and certain seemingly scammer corps was not met with success. If you ignore a corp it only ignores corp offers, not those issued by its members.
We at least need more than 80 ignore slots for contracts. And have it so that when you block a corp, it also blocks all members' contracts from this corp.

edit: cursed forums and their "you better log in again, just .. ya know, to be safe" make me look old and slow :(

Hmm, but where is you problem? I am not very involved into contracts because i never used them, but for me it seems that you get pretty much money and give away two items? right? _______________________ Mining makes mad |

I know I'm not falling for it, but then again I'm never too greedy nor too hasty, and especially not colorblind. From chats with scammers like these, it appears they keep doing it because, well, enough people actually FALL FOR IT.
Would it be so inconceivable to actually get a CONFIRMATION box saying "you are trying to give away your stull AND also money" if such a transaction is encountered ?
Also, better still, would it be so hard to make it a "you receive" and "you pay" listing instead of red/green color-coding ? _ New char creation guide | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Wrong. He gives away two items and also pays some money, getting nothing in return.

I've encountered that scammer too. Same scam.
I didn't fall for it. His excuse was something along the lines of:
"The pipe down to Jita is full of war targets, I can issue a contract so I can pick it up safely with an alt"
which was odd since it was a public item exchange, his alt could buy it anyway.
Being very wary I said "ok link the contract". He did, and it was exactly the same as the OPs (well different items, differnt isk of course).
I just said "nice try", he gave me a wink smiley and then closed the convo. I blocked him after that.
Be very careful with red text. Red means you are giving something away.

I had to look at that several times before I twigged what the issue was... While red and green text is OK, it isn't very clear that this costs you money as well as giving your items away. I can see how a new (or experienced!) player could lose out on this.

You know what?!? You are right!
It should say "COST" when you are giving money and "MONEY OFFERED" when you are getting money!
That would solve everything!

Item exchange contracts in which you receive isk state "Money offered: <green isk amount>". Item exchanges where you pay isk state "Cost: <red isk amount>".
So: [Want To Buy] + Money offered/green = maybe good, depending on sum [Want To Buy] + Cost/red = bad [Want To Sell] + Cost/red = normal [Want To Sell] + Money offered/green = omg

I just checked this against somebody with red/green color blindness. Guess what they said. I wonder if the EU has any disability laws dealing with this. (Quick fix CCP add a - sign if you're paying money).

I do not understand the spam in Local for people trying to sell stuff. As a buyer it is FAR easier for me to just search for the item on the market or in Contracts than it is to watch the stream of text that is Jita local hoping someone will be selling what I am looking for. The even better part about that for the seller is you cannot get scammed! Just setup your own market order/contract on your terms and it's done.
"But I have to pay taxes then!" Big deal...suck up the cost or raise your price to make up the difference.
I can maybe see someone in local asking to buy something if it is not on the market but that is about it.

To combat "Disability laws" they would just say...
Your honor. We did in fact have red/green text showing receive/give status. We also know that people can be color blind so therefore had this section also state "COST" when you are paying and "Money offered" when someone is offering you money.
We cannot be responsible for people being unable or unwilling to read.

I haven't been scammed and I have no issue with scammers (other than corp thieves), but it just seems wrong for the game to permit scams based upon someone misreading something or making an honest mistake rather than scams based on the scammer genuinely outsmarting his victim.

Agreed.
In nature red usually denotes danger.
In accounting (an area of finance), red indicates a debt in RL. You could say Eve borrows from RL: as this was a financial transcation and, as the contract indicates in red text, you will incur a debt upon agreeing to it ie. you will have to pay money.
Ofc its a scam that no sensible person would agree to...but then you could also say putting up a buy order on an item for less than its market value is also a scam because it leaves the seller with less equity (value) than they had before the trade.
Should these be avoided? Yes, should this mechanic be removed from Eve? I vote no.

Captain Blackadder: Yes... take down a telegram, Bob. To Mr. Charlie Chaplin, Sennet Studios, Hollywood, California. Congratulations stop. Have found only person in world less funny than you stop. Name Baldrick stop. Signed E. Blackadder stop. Oh, and put a P.S.: please, please, please stop.

I admit, having not used contracts much myself. at least not in this way, it took me a while, but the contract is set up as:
-give the items to the buyer -pay the buyer the asking price
the money was a "cost" not an item in return for the two modules. ========================================== Iy

really easy way to help prevent people from falling for this scam:
if the contract is setup like this (contractee only gives away stuff and receives nothing), popup a big warning message. they already do this when you exchange a ship in direct trade window.
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
