I run two instances of Eve on my Core2Duo PC with Vista and two monitors... Runs fine.
So now you're read/heard otherwise

Edited by: Lardarz B''stard on 08/06/2007 13:53:17 I got sick of my system being a bit pants so I just bought the following: BFG 8800GTX Gigabyte GA-M59SLi-S5 AMD 6000+ AthlonX2 processor 2 gigs half-decent fast ram.
I can now run 3 clients at once on a two monitor setup and get the same framerate as one on my last setup. There's no issue with the dual core crashing eve or anything. Runs SupCom and Test Drive Unlimited extremely well too. Now I just have to save up the cash to get another 8800GTX.

Edited by: Rhaegor Stormborn on 08/06/2007 14:13:56 I hardly ever lag and if I do, I lag for about 10-15 seconds and then everything is fine. This is in large fleet battles of 100 vs 100 people.
Intel e6600 2.4ghz @ 3.6ghz (400x9) EVGA 680i SLI A1 revision motherboard EVGA 8800 GTS 320MB 2gb DDR2-800 @ 900mhz
Btw, EVGA is the best hardware company out there, no questions asked, go read their forums, review their "step-up" program, they have a lifetime warrenty which supports overclocking, etc, etc.

Quote: Dunno, I have quadcore extreme and having 2 EVE's open same time takes up 15% of CPU time
Wow, so i guess my Alienware Quad core death machine only using 13% must be better then right?

Damn lies!
Up to 6 instances of Eve is very happy running on my Dual Core ADM Athlon64FX62 however Eve seems to be very sensitive to overclocking, about 30% is max. |

I run eve on a dual core system with no problems at all. When I dual box, I set each client to be dedicated to a single core just to reduce potental lag. It works out pretty well, I've never had any stability problems related to the CPU, regardless of if i specify which core eve should run on.
SOUND on the other hand is a different matter... Realtek souncards only work with eve when you set hardware acceleration to basic, otherwise your system will probably BSOD when you do something like lock a target, or use a shield booster.

Note that while EVE will work on dual cores, EVE isn't threaded, so you'll still lag out anytime you do something like, oh, open a market window.
That should really be fixed. _____ Lifewire is a big, ugly, mean... carebear. |

Motherboard : ABIT AN9 32X AMDX2 ATHLON 590SLI SOC AM2 CPU : AMD ATHLON 64X2 AM2 DUAL CORE 4200 MEM : 1GB DDR2 667 dual channel 2x512 PC2-5300 GFX : BFG G-FORCE512MB DDR2 7600GS/OC 8XAGP
this is my what I was thinking of gettign tomorrow Will EVE run ok on this ? sorry if wrong forum - bit desperate as a weekend locked out of EVe is a somewhat scary prospect - withdrawal symptoms anyone
Not that anything above wouldn't perform plenty well enough for the typical needs of EVE, but for the sake of your own wellbeing and any realistic possibility of future upgrades, I highly recommend you look for a machine that uses a PCI-Express (PCI-e) slot for the graphics card as opposed to AGP. The reason of course being that AGP is a very rapidly aging standard, which isn't bad mind you, the card would perform admirably, however in a year or two from now, it would still be easy to upgrade a PCI-e based graphics card where as it's already getting less than easy to find top-notch AGP cards as it is, and in that time it will likely be a far less desirable situation. ------------------------------------------------ UPDATED March 11 Formal request for improvements to industrialism |

Just to sum up the suggestions that people have made about your comp...
1) Intel's Core processor is way ahead of the AMD64 currently, get a core2 duo, like an e6600
2) AGP is on the way out, it's an expensive motherboard because people don't want it , get a mobo with pci express.
3) If you want a good gaming rig, an 8800gts is the way to go right now. 3x faster than the card you picked, and still a midrange price.
4) 1GB just isn't enough now, get 2 1xGB sticks if you can.
Those are all good suggestions, and that pretty much sums up what people have posted.

Eve needs RAM bandwidth big-time. More than any PC can deliver.
But that's where the AM2 memory bus does excel. I'd be surprised if a Core2 Duo is really any better at running Eve.
