If we are talking wild west here... and I've heard EVE compared to the wild, wild west on many occasions, why for the love of god do we have to even bother relying on the Sheriff (CONCORD)to resolve issues in Empire.
To be honest, I've been around a while now and I've seen a few situations in Empire where haulers, miners, noobs and even faction ships (with those big fat modules) have been ripped to shreds by cheaply fitted, over-insured battleships tossing around T2 drones and spamming torps at them till they pop... then of course the killer's partner in crime simply warps to 0 to the killer, and calmly picks up the remains, while the Sheriff finishes popping the killer's ships.
The killers, now in pods float back to a station, pick up their insurance, buy a new ship, refit it with cheapo modules, and stock up on some nice T2 drones... and head back over to the gate to sit around for the next victim.
Come on people!!!
Wild, wild west? Give me a break.
If this was the wild, wild west, the killers would be lynched as quickly as you could say, "so, the dingo ate your baby?"
You want to make EVE balanced?
Then flag criminals!!
What the heck good is a little T.V. screen floating in space that shows pirates with 100 million bounties, when their alts can sit around in high sec popping ships without repercussion?
I'm not doing drag this on...
But CCP, you really have to look at game balance here... stop nerfing ships and modules, and start fixing the game balance.
A no brainer here... flag criminals, you know... just like the good ole' wild, wild west of yore... and let the locals handle the justice!
Give those gankers a reason to hide... imagine if they carried a 24 hour "open season flag" on themselves...
Do you think they'll be sitting at the gates long, if they knew anyone could kill them now?
Do you think the victims would feel justice has been done, when they get the pleasure of coming back to the gate, or hunting the low-lives down, and lynching them?
Wild, wild west you say... well until CCP fixes game balance, it sure doesn't seem wild at all...
Well thatÆs my 2 isk worth

You get kill rights on the killer.
If you don't use them then thats your choice.
As you say they are sitting at the gate waiting for the next victim, so scan their ship and setup your ship like they were an NPC. An almost sure kill, I would say.

Edited by: kliop on 08/06/2007 11:28:50 actually it could make things pretty intresting...to give in high sec a timer where all ppl can attack u without concord interfering...the sec status should still drop and the firstkiller should get killrights on the other guy who decided to kill him... maybe even tweak it so that u can assist the attacked guy while he is beeing shot at...like civil police:P the attacker will only get killrights if he dies though ...
and for the above poster...the high sec ganker will get killrights for the one who attacked him if he dies...so it will be his choice to use them...which according to u will make it fair..or rather even fairer than it is now

And it's pretty hard to get back up honestly. I spent 2 days killing battleship npcs in 0.0 just to raise it up by .3
You can only get sec status increase every 15-30 min for killing rats (more like 30) so when you do the math, you lose 7.5% for killing 3 haulers and have to spend 20+ hours ratting just to make that up. Possible? Yes, but very tedious. You can do it with alts but it takes over 2 days to train for a battle cruiser. Means you lose 2 days of training on main char. If you use trial accounts the best you can get is a cruiser. So you would need 3 other people + a hauler just to get it done.

Using drones to kill in highsec is Flavour Of The Month.
Anything FOTM that's not strictly what CCP had envisaged will eventually be re-balanced.
I really don't think CCP had planned for gankage of non paper thin ships in High Sec, certainly not CNRs.
Fixed / nerfed - just depends which side of the fence you are sitting really.

Ehm. This isn't really a problem with high priority. As I know, this happends very seldom, and you kinda need a good alt to be able to use those t2 drones anyway. And if you sit in a faction bs with faction modules, you should be ashame of yourself if you can't tank a couple of t2 drones (and a cheap tier 1-2 battleship) long enough for CONCORD to deal with them, honestly...
CCP should focus their time and money on stuff like lag instead. That's what's ruining this game, not the damn empire gankers =)

People use ALTS to suicide gank, as soon as their sec status goes too lwo they boimass them and make new ones. IMO, a 24 hour time period where someone is fair game after a kill would be a good idea, also increase the time they can't dock/jump to say, 10 or 15 minutes.

if your this bad at the game just quit why is there always a thread *****ing about this you consent to pvp when you log in keep local open use scouts move the uber loot in covert ops and grow a spine it's risk vs reward people see your loot is worth more than their bs then they will pop you. if you don't want people scanning your cargo use freight cans. if you quit being lazy and/or stupid these problems can be avoided

This is why I never pimp my ships out with officer/faction gear .
There is a counter-tactic, I think it was Dark Shikari who came up with it. Basically, you make t2 BPCs either through invention, or copying a BPO. You put one BPC in a slow, paper-thin ship and bimble around empire with it. Someone scans you, thinks "OMG T2 BPO, MURDER HIM!!", and all they get in the end is a crummy 10-run BPC --------------------------------------------------------------------

Not all of us can afford to have multiple ships and fittings sitting around to deal with high sec gankers every time they pop our mining barges...especially when the suggestion is "when they pop your expensive t2 gear, jump in your BS with more expensive t2 gear and pop em!". It's financially inefficient.
Not whining for a nerf/fix either way, just saying.

Just make security hits apply to all toons on the account. I am pretty sure this will resolve all the complaints and the evil pirates can proudly show off their -10 rating on all of their toons.

Yeeehaaaaaa!
On topic: Sec status works ok with low-sec pirating mains. Maybe it is even a bit too much grind to get it back up..
But it does not work well on empire suiciders. Since chars can quickly learn the BS skills since the new player SP boost, the suicide gank chars can be recycled once they fall too low in sec status. As far as I know you are not allowed to recycle them directly after the gankage, but if you wait a few days its ok.
So yeah, I think there is a prob.

For those of you, who took the time to read the post, thank you for the positive suggestions.
For those of you that replied with a knee-jerk comment, completely off topic in most cases, all I can say is this... gank-on... GANK...ON!
The question was never one of whether you could continue to gank in empire, or whether you enjoyed building up your NPC security status after popping some noobÆs ship.
The question is, why not balance the game.
LetÆs try using a little reason here... never mind the wild, wild west for now, obviously that little metaphor was lost on the majority of the responders.
Now try to imagine a game where PvP is balanced, and by balanced in mean funà for everyone.
Game balance isnÆt rocket science; it is just a matter of cause and effect.
For those of you that truly wish to see this game grow, and become even more enjoyable, please read on.
As IÆve mentioned before, in the time IÆve spent in this game, IÆve seen a ridiculous amount of one-sided encounters where the æhelplessÆ are torn to shreds by the ægankersÆ.
IÆm not questioning the intelligence of either side, they are playing the game to the best of their abilities, and having fun û otherwise they wouldnÆt be playing.
But as we all knowà the æhelplessÆ lose everything, and the ægankersÆ lose nothing while potentially making a profit in the process.
This is what is termed as, unbalanced.
The æhelplessÆ risks everything for zero reward, and the ægankersÆ risk nothing for ultimate reward.
Once againà the question of ôwhy would you carry that 10 billion isk BPO in a 256,000 isk ship?ö is not the issue at handà no one cares why they would carry it.
The problem here is that the criminal has no fear of any measurable repercussions for the act they have just perpetrated.
Security Status hits, are meaningless.
Yes the Concord kill them if they are carelessà but the ship was insured, and unless they happen to just fall below that nice æflashy redÆ Security Status as they committed the crime, they are still untouchable.
Helpless û 0, Gankers - 1
So what happens when you balance the PvP in the game?
Do the ægankersÆ stop trying to get those juicy billion isk BPOs from æhelplessÆ victimsà noà they will still Gank-ON!
But if we say, hey you know whatà I really would like to help out that poor æhelplessÆ victim a little, and maybe even make those ægankersÆ pay for their crimes û I think IÆm going to hunt those ægankersÆ down and cash in the ækill rightsÆ on them.
All of a sudden the flashy-red ægankersÆ have something to fearà now they know theyÆre about to lose their ships and possibly some valuable implants to the vigilantes and do-gooders of the world.
The idea is about balancing a broken system, and allowing for a more natural form of PvP, rather than the crazy gate-camped-lag-inducing-mess we have now.
Slap an æopen seasonÆ on the criminals, 24-hours, or whatever, and let human nature take care of the rest.
Helpless û 1, Gankers-1
ThatÆs what balance is all about!

Get rid of multiple alts/toons and this problem will be fixed. Alts are one of the worst things in eve, expecially multiple toons. They get ccp no money, whats the point in them, just to be used as spies...

Theres a lack of balance in the game cause so many people are drinking while they play, and that makes it hard to keep standing upright. Also, It's hard to balance something in null gravity, because stuff has a tendancy to float away.

You cry on about balence but 90% of the victims are those that refuse to use the tools available to them. Tanking and Warp to zero to name but a few.
AFK traveling with hundreds of millions in a hauler is a really stupid idea.
Everything else will be fixed to some extent when they void insurance for attacking in High-sec.
