Edited by: coldplasma on 08/06/2007 20:15:37 I've been away for a few months, and I noticed when I came back yesterday that the price of HACs have been radically reduced. Vagabond now costs avg 135mill when 3 or 4 months ago, you'd be lucky to get one for 250mill. Has invention got a lot easier while I've been gone? _________________

Yes invention has gotten easyer and cheeper, and the base cost of setting up to do invention (skills and data interfaces) has also fallen.
Also more people are flying command ships or rigged tier 2 BC's. -

Also, don't forget that one or two more BPOs were probably given out a few lotteries back. But invention is the overriding factor. ------ Spreadsheets: Top speed calculation - Halo Implant tanking |

Vagabond was great before the hitpoint increase and other changes. These days, its relatively speaking not as good as it once was. I can fly Vagas, but I somehow dont really want to these days.
If I started today, I would go for Curse or one of the recon ships instead of the Vaga. Things were different a year ago.

I'd stake money the primary reason for that is that more people have the (fairly hefty) skills to fly them now, so the market has finally perked up.

Heh, I just bought a cerb for 74 mill, a few months ago you couldnt get one for less than 300 million... I would say the new t2 lottery plus invention seem to be working well finally.

The problem now seem to be a shortage of advanced materials.

Edited by: Del Narveux on 09/06/2007 02:45:16 Yes, its all about the invention. As more and more people get into the invention game, the prices will keep going down. The main barrier is a very large, but one time only fee so once someone joins the club they wont be leaving. Hopefully theyll turn their attention to modules soon, specifically t2 cruiser guns cause I want cheap candy.
Related note, has there been any word of starting up the lottery again? Dont get me wrong, Im totally for invention but it would be nice if it were complemented by the occasional BPO handout to ensure supply of rare/unprofitable gear and as a bit of candy to R&D types.
edit: as someone else said, CS are going up because they were undervalued. They take a lot of skills, and said skills require an attribute (charisma) that most people have very little of due to not being particularly useful outside gang related stuff so theyre just now starting to go mainstream _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Don't know, if it's harder, but needs twice as many datacubes as a hac, making the tech-1 bpcs for invention takes longer, a command ships needs a lot more materials to build and a tech-1 battlecruiser as item for the invention run is also more expensive than a cruiser. Don't know how much your chance falls, if you don't make use of it though.
The only cost that stays the same is the decryptor cost. If you assume that the profit margins for invented hacs aren't that high anymore and that inventing a commandship costs maybe twice as much as a hac due to the points I listed, it's no wonder that invention doesn't dramatically bring their price down.
Maybe invention is only worth it for the nighthawk currently, which is the most expensive command ship, if I'm right.
Don't know it for sure though, I've only invented modules and hacs myself so far.

The chance of success is reduced even further by the fact that the two types of command ships are both based on the tier 1 battlecruiser, so you have a 50% chance to get the "bad" one.
