Words fail me. I cannot begin to express how sick I am of this BoB vs. GoonSwarm drama. I cannot fathom how anyone can be so wrapped up in this.
I play EVE Online for entertainment, as an occasional departure from the real world. However, every press article I read on EVE is about some new corruption allegation regarding the company from those who are jealous of BoB's power.
Even considering t20's actions, I cannot reason this degree of complaint. One would think actual lives were at stake.
The attention that CCP shows this escapes me. Perhaps it is necessary to deal with considering the amount of noise made. But the credibility of the main accusers in question, GS, reeks their own agenda. A relatively new alliance who's sworn enemy is BoB decides to level the most allegations against them. If this were from a third party I may be inclined to at least consider it more. But in light of these known facts and GoonSwarm's recent underhanded tactics I find it hard to believe that anyone would hold this group in high esteem.
I am especially dismayed with the allegations leveled against Sharkbait, whom having met and talked with privately at length, (with a Goonswarm member present no less) I can say with confidence is absolutely appalled that any sort of favoritism would take place. A group of us talking with him at Fanfest were held to mere nods as we listened to this man vent his frustration and anger at these sorts of actions and his militant view of preventing them from happening again. I can only imagine how he felt when these charges were made.
I am not a member of BoB. My only interactions with them have been on the opposite ends of their guns. Yet I cannot bring myself to hate them or any other player group. I do not feel cheated by means out of my control, I cannot think of a loss in which I did not undertake a risk. But more importantly, I cannot wake up in the morning and say that I have lost something from my life in a game I freely pay for (which have no guarantees of pleasure mind you.) to justify these sorts of feelings that so many claim to feel. I get worked up over a bad design decision at work or some political mud fight. I cannot see this level of emotion over a game, even one such as EVE.
What bothers me about this is not only am I assaulted with this whenever I enter the game community, but that this is the face that the game community presents to the world. Who in their right mind would want to participate in such a mud fest? Do we feel that real world events are not enough and we must drag this crap into our game time as well?
I level the majority of my accusations squarely on GoonSwarm. Make no question about it. But I ask everyone who feels slighted to take a step back and ask themselves if this is how we want to play our game. EVE Online is like no other, and we hold a great deal of influence over its well-being that members of other game communities only wish they had. This nonsense must cease, and it must cease now.
