Eve lacks UI customization. I know this is not a popular reference, but yes I like the fact that in WOW, you can modify your UI completely arrange the UI to your needs and taste.
Would be nice to have a bit of ability to do the same for Eve. I know this has been talked about before, but any word from "The Man"? Anyone maybe have a link to some dev statements on this?

I just wish we could bind hotkeys for like everything, but really an xml based UI like WoW's would be much better. Eve's UI uses way too much computer resources for how poor it looks and how little information is actually displayed. A complete re-write is in order soon. RISE Recruitment Thread

I haven't played wow but I agree. I would like to be able to move the UI so it's not in the middle of the screen. not gonna happen I suspect but I agree.

Yeah thats another big think the hotkeys.... god I hate them more then lag. I like really weird hotkeys so being able to change everysingle one of those would make me happier then a priest at a daycare.

Yes PLEASE.
Every action that requires the mouse should have a keyboard shortcut or combination of keystrokes assigned to it. Mouse is for easy access - keyboard is for fast access.
This UI is so 1990, and I've said that a dozen times already. --- WTS: Forum Signatures, price negotiable. Evemail me!

I agree entirely, the eve ui is horrible, I've gotten used to it, but it's still horrible. Allow us totally free bindings and give us some xml to play with. I'd settle with being able to change my clock

Wouldn't more hotkeys make it easier to make macroprograms?

No, it's easy enough to make macro programs already. It's already fairly trivial to make a macro program move the mouse to a specified section of the screen, having a hotkey do it isn't that much different

Was stated a while ago that the UI is getting a full work over as it's based off code that is some 7 years old now and admitted to be not so great to start with.
Will link the post if I can find the ruddy thing.

Worst UI ever. Game needs less mousing and more hot keys. Also let me move the over view, target boxes to where I want them. I hate where they are.

it was my understanding the "workover" for the UI was to make it less memory intensive and "more responsive", rather than "easier to use", "aesthetically pleasing", or even "customizable".
i would very much like to customize the interface. currently, it is functional in the most primitive way.
the eve-online interface is like MS-Dos 3.3, to WoW's Apple IIgS GUI...
im just sayin...

I just hope they make it efficient and add total customization. Not just like a few more things, I mean like total control like in wow.
In wow you can change the appearance, position, shape, size, hotkeys, absolutely everything.
would be teh pwn if we had that for eve.

one thing i totally miss, was the amazing customization of Everquests UI, differant skins/themes/positioning really was far and above my favorite part of that gameplay.
would give some of those creative eve players something to sink they're teeth into.
plus i really wish i could have a minimal UI interface for pvp and something with more fat for when i do missions/marketplay etc.
plus moving around the UI to "where" i want them would make a world of differance.

Couldn't agree more. Especially in EVE a customizable, and programmable Interface would make the game more enjoyable for absolutely everyone involved. -------------------------------------------------------- Working towards my own personal Dreadnought, one ISK at a time. |

I wouldn't want much customisation, but one thing would peek me interest very much.
Ability to set the sidebar(with the character, market, etc tabs), to bottom, left, rght or top of screen.
At the top or bottom it wouldn't interfere so much with the locked target icons moving about the screen.
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

While I would love things like hotkeys for my drones, UI customization leads to very easy botting and bot programing. I'd rather keep the bots to simple, weak programs than turn eve into a script kiddie heaven.

That's actually something I've forgotten about, the drone UI is terrible as it is. Some hotkeys could be usefull.
As far as macros kiddies go, macros wouldn't be easier or more difficult if a change was to take place. You can make a macro just as easily with or without a hotkey.

wish list for hotkeys:
1. switching selected target maybe the number keys, since modules are F-keys or even just rotating through them
2. giving drone commands probably some key to tell ALL your drones to enguage current target, or to have ALL your drones return
3. the commands to "approach", "orbit", "warp", "jump", etc
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
