Hi everyone!
A little while ago I got an idea for a racing event in EVE. I spent a lot of time thinking about it and planning the whole thing. Yesterday I browsed the forums a bit and found that these events have taken place before (2005 - 2006) and there was a whole legue going as well. Now, what I propose is not something that big and also somewhat different to what happend before. I am thinking about racing close to the F1 style.
So here is the plan: * 3 to 10 contestants will race on a track. * A race will take place in a hi-sec system (so as to prevent hostile actions by players) * The track will be designed in a complete circuit therefore many laps can be done * Races will be divided in to classes (Frigate, Cruiser, etc) * Any equipment can be used * The races will be relatively short - no more than 20 minutes each
I had a few ideas about the actual track design and the way I am designing these tracks - the contestants will need to worry about more than just speed but also manuverability.
Other stuff: * I am thinking of allowing "Pit Crews" - these would be ships that help a contestant by refuling his cap during the race and so on.
Financial aspects: * Sponsoring of some sort would help a lot! (so if anybody is interested then please contact me either ingame or viw this thread) * An enry fee will be required from all contestants - this will pay for the prizes (or be the prize) and cover my costs as well
I would greatly appreciate your feedback on this idea. Please write what you think about it and also if you dont mind - answer the following questions: 1. Would you be willing to participate in something like that (either as a contestant or a spectator)? 2. What prizes would you prefer if you were to race (racing related equipment, t2 BPCs, ISK)? 3. Would you be willing to sponsor the event (partially or fully)? 4. Would you be willing to help with the organisation of the event?
And most importantly a question to the GMs - Is this even allowed?

This would be cool to participate in. Maybe a 10m isk fee or something, with prizes going to race implants/eq. Have a track of cans 300km apart and do a few laps in them, or an obsticle corse with rings of cans.

Edited by: Danonne on 11/06/2007 07:57:11 Yeah I am thinking of building the whole track with rings of cans so the contestants will have to go through the rings - thats how I plan to make sure manuverability is important by means of making sharp turns and such. I wanna make sure that speed is by no means the most important thing in these races.

Nice sounding idea. Yet, Originally by: Danonne hi-sec system .. prevent hostile
Just remember that hi-sec merely means 'slighy higher security'. Bunch of officer fitted friggies with couple bil implants might lead to an apocalypse (fitted with smarties).
Then again, guess those could merely be treated as additional challenges..
-Lasse watching the thread for location announcement..

You might want to check out the frig. racing league. Those events take place in both secure and unsecure space. They run events like every other week and give prizes. I've been meaning to hit one of their events for a while now. "Money talks everything else is just mumbling." Francis Carr 1999

Hey Guys! Thanx a lot for the feedback so far. To address some of the issues that were raised:
* Yes I heard of the legue but I noticed that the forums have no record of it since mid 2006 or so. (I may be wrong in which case please post links to threads). Also I want to cater for all sorts of ships not only frigs. Another thing is - they race arround a station... to me (and again I may be wrong here) that means that the biggest emphasis is on speed (so the one with higher skills, better MWD and such - wins. I want to make sure that manuvering is as important, that it is not only the size of your MWD but also how u use it that matters - for example if u dont turn off your MWD you will go past the checkpopint or perhaps its best to use an AB in a particular part of the track and not a MWD at all. This will also provide new opportunities for other people who are interested to build their own tracks and host the F1 league or something like that
* The thing about security is quite simple to sort out - I am thinking of either having security officers there (people involved in the organization) and on top of that access to the place can be restricted to Shuttles only (except contestants and their pit crews)
I also wonder if some sort of betting system should be thought of... any ideas?
Anyway I will start building a track this weekend and maybe even finish it. Once its done I will need people to help me test it. So maybe in about 2 - 3 weeks at most we can have a first race.
Another question - What would you think a reasonable entry fee would be and what kind (isk value) of prizes should be considered? And should the winner take all of maybe have 1,2,3 structure?
Thanx again for the support so far!

Sable has already posted a link for the post about Season III, which starts in about 8 hours as of this writing. The reason you couldn't find posts about it in the Events section of the Forums is that the reports started being posted individually in the Intergallactic Summit instead of serially here all in the same thread.

You are wrong and I should know because I'm a regular in the League since Season I :) We start at a station and finish at another station, but they're usually not even in the same system. The races take us through multiple systems, through belts, planets, moons, beacons, you name it. I can assure you it's not necessarily the best MWD or skills who wins every time.
Having said all that, I am always interested in trying out new kinds of races, so I'm definitely going to keep an eye on this thread. I might like to participate in one of these, as long as it doesn't interfere with my League races (I do have a title to defend there ;).)

Drop me an eve-mail when you get that track up, please. I'm curious. If you could use a test pilot during the week I would like to help you out.
Quote: And should the winner take all of maybe have 1,2,3 structure?
I suggest the 1, 2, 3 structure as it keeps more people interested in the races for a longer amount of time.
Kay.

Well, it seems like interest is limited but I will still try to go ahead with this - even if it turns out to be just a track that I have for me and some friends to play with. The location of the track is Slays (thatts the system I am building it in). I should be completing it this week/weekend. I am in the process of changing jobs so it is a bit rough to find the time to do anything.
I still dont see any evidence that anybody has done anything similar to what I want with the pit crews and propper track and such. Most races I heard about are still based on a point to point race - got to a station - go to another station/belt, got there - cool now go to the next one. its till mainly long run races (adventure racing in my understanding of the concept). I wanna do something different and it seems like the best way to try is to go ahead and build a track and test it. To those of you who are willing to help me test the track - thank you! I will let you know as soon as its ready. Please let me know in the mean time what times are good for you (eve time please) for me - anything between DT and 17:00 should be good.

also i was wondering, if your racing around, what if im in a gang and someone in my gang has hi leadership skills for speed etc? that not give me an unfair advantage?
Sorry if these have been covered and i know it sound srather noobish but never heard of Eve racing beofre today :)
