Quake for example, Slows your ship down and makes your cap regen suck? Why any negative effects at all? it takes quite a while to train up to T2 so why the slap in the face when you finally get them? Compared to missiles and drones seems like a huge rip off. |

T2 equipment is specialised equipment, not an I-win button you can attach to your ship to kill anyone without your number of skill points.
T2 ammo has penalties T2 modules and rigs are harder to fit
The only T2 gear that is better in every respect is T2 ships, which do improve on their T1 counterpart in every way. The problem is it makes them prohibitively expensive.

T2 projectile ammo is great, the only one that I feel is mostly useless is Hail, I use all the other kinds (that include quake) all the time. 5k+ alpha strike without wreckings ftw.
Quake S might be a bit worthless I can agree but for Quake L none of the penalties matter for kind of setups and fights you normally use it for. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

Hail has its uses. Quake has very limited use since it slows you down and with the common use of dictors these days, it's dangerous to use it. Barrage is awesome. Tremor is good as well, just like all t2 long range ammo. -

The penalty's stack and are active even thou the moduals are not active (The tremendous recoil generated by this shell means that the ship's velocity must be substantially curbed).
it's so bad a.ss it generates recoil when not even being fired...

I disagree for one important weapon type. T2 drones are better in every respect than their T1 counterparts, with no drawbacks other than a higher price tag.

This is true. But one way of looking at it is that T2 drones aren't T2 ammo, they're T2 turrets. A T2 turret (with regular ammo) is straight up better than a T1 turret, with no draw backs. It's only when you get T2 ammo involved that the penalties come in. --------

And the fact that T2 drones are able to be blown up makes the gigantic price tag a big draw back to using them, too. Everything has it's drawback. --------

I am not looking for a "I win" button, just some reasonable balance. I think for the amount of time you put in, there are too many negative effects. |

You just have to know where to use it. IMO, I just avoid the t2 small arty ammo, but i'm using it a lot on a rapier.
Also I can easily see an AC pest shooting hail at a gatecamp in low sec. or a Sniping BS using tremor at range.
They all got their uses...

Line up against a maelstrom running 8x 1400 II's with Quake and then come back and tell me how much it sucked when he dropped 750 dps on you. Same thing goes for 650 II's and Hail.
All the T2 ammo has a situational use, just make sure you're using it correctly.

The worst thing about T2 projectile ammo is that you still have the low DPS typical for projectiles, but you also lose the flexibility of choosing the damage types somewhat. T2 drones and missiles still have all the damage types available, while with hybrids and lasers you are just as limited as with T1 ammo. Only projectiles get totally gimped with T2 as far as damage types are concerned.

4 types of barrage, each with its own damage type, would rock. I would really love that. But I guess its too good to get true.

Barrage is usable, the others have too many drawbacks so they are only used in too few situations to be really worth carrying around.

^^ that. and best named t1 guns are as good as t2 ones if you compare them with t1 ammo loaded (tracking, dmg modifier, range). --

Yes, on paper, but the specialisation skills apply only to the T2 guns - so that's an extra 8% damage for most people.

The descriptions for a lot of t2 ammo says a bunch of stuff that never pans out in the ammo stats. Just off the top of my head, javelin's description says something about being able to attain a much higher rate of fire, yet there is no rof bouns when using javelin. Theres a couple others like this too
Oh and btw Javelin is complete garbage...
