I suddenly realised this morning that i have -3.19 standings towards gallente federation (and I got a wooping -3% in my log and I don't know where it comes from - I suppose it comes from a mission, but I'm not really sure). This is a bad thing as i'm mainly a trader. I tried to find an agent to raise back my standing to a more neutral value, but I can't find any which want to speak to me.
Am I totally screwed?

There's a skill that can boost your standings slightly, possibly enough to gain enough to interact freely.
Generally missions will reduce your standings with one or two factions and raise them with the other. ----- CEO, Astrum Contract Services Group

Diplomacy only works with regards to agents, not NPCs on gates. Therefore, if you fall below -5, you WILL get shot no matter how high your Diomacy skill takes you above that number.
Simple solution: every now and then accept that storyline for caldari/amarr and 'fail' it. It will give you a decrease in caldari/amarr standings, but a big(ger) increase in the negative standing towards gallente/minnie.
Hardcore solution (I'm being told long-term mission horses us this): do missions for all 4 major factions (i.e. move around every month or so), but this is a very long-term solution and I appreciate not all mision runners play that much.

Originally by: Jean Korr I suppose it comes from a mission, but I'm not really sure).
Enemies Abound, Technological Secrets, Illegal Activity and others result in faction hits.
Training Diplomacy will help a little.

Edited by: cal nereus on 13/06/2007 07:40:34 I'm still fairly young so I don't know of the long term consequences of my methods, but I'll add my two cents anyways. I regularly work for the Gallente and Amarr, and just those two empires. My Caldari and Minmatar standings remain reasonable without slowing down my standings gains in Gallente and Amarr too much.
I'd recommend, in your case, working with the Minmatar if you can.
