Why is there such a thing as poison ivy?
WTF? Why did that ******* evolve?
I'm clearing more land in prep for a bigger pond I plan to dig this year, basically just making room for the dirt pile, etc. Linkage
I got poison ivy pretty bad 2 years ago. Now all I have to do is see it, and I'm ******* itching with rashes & ****.
I cut some trees down Monday, and they had the stuff sprawled all over them. I have been meticulously pulling the vines off b4 I make any cuts with the chainsaw, as not to spray the poison ivy oil all over myself. I wash my whole upper body down with rubbing alcohol between each tree... No matter what precaution I take, doesn't matter, now my stomach is a big red patch of itching nightmare. I have like 20 trees left to cut down, they live in a giant poison ivy patch
If there is a GOD, and he created poison ivy 6000 years ago, I want to kick his ass...
My Dr won't prescribe me any more steroids...
So who has poison ivy home remedies that work? Anyone?

distract yourself, play a fps or something so your hands are always active and you cant scratch yourself, if its a really good game you might completely forget about it. - Thanks Hutch. ____

Unfortunately if you burn it and happen to get a good whiff of the smoke, your air passages get inflamed, constrict, and you die...
I typically burn the trees (what I don't save for firewood) as I cut them... I try to be careful not to throw any on the fire...

I sit at CAD station at work all day, give's me ample time to discuss on these forums how much I hate poison ivy... But it still itches, lol...
Quote: hihi, good thing i'm not really vulnerable to that stuff :P
I'm 33 years old, I never got it as a kid, so thought I was immune... How wrong I was...
Go cut through a bunch of vines with a chainsaw like I did 2 years ago, see if you're still immune to it, lol...

The rash is the ivy's way of telling you to GTFO. Be happy that you aren't standing on a fire ant hill while doing your clearing.

Try Dream Cream from a company called Lush. It helps against itchy skin and cools the skin down. It¦s helpful against 101 skin problems, if you dont like it I¦m sure you knwo some girl who will use it as a moisteriser ( or you can do secretly)
Otherwise there is a dutch old wives tale that says there is suppose to be a little flower growing close byt eh Ivy and if you rub that on the itching will go away as well.

"Natural immunity is originally present in all persons, but is reduced through time by contact with the poison. Therefore, care should always be taken when attempting to eradicate this plant."
I was too until 2 years ago :(

Just think of it this way,
You've taken all their POS to reinforced and destroyed them. One last one to take down and you have sovereignty - there with the prospect of sudden victory you will no longer think about the itching -

Even a bad game - as long as it keeps you focussed on the action - should to the trick.
(My wrists tend to itch like mad - was told it was eczema, just not by any qualified GP or doctor)

Cool! I'm a Mechanical Design Engineer. I use mostly Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD. I use COSMOSDesignStar when I need to analyze my designs... I use use SolidWorks once in a while too...
It gets boring sometimes, but I'll take boring over itching any day. I keep lifting up my shirt looking at my stomach, and some of my co-workers are looking at me funny, lol...

AutoCAD 2002/ADT 3.3 currently, moving to Revit Architecture at the end of the month.
Gonna be interesting modeling buildings in 3D, then letting the software do all the hard work extracting drawings.

Ah, so you're an architect! I'll remember your name when I design up my shop & house... I'm much better at designing machines than I am at buildings, lol... Plus, none of the software I know lends itself well to that type of work, exept maybe AutoCAD...
Yeah, the Mechanical Engineering world went to 3D quite a while ago... I've been modeling designs instead of "drawing" them for almost 8 years now...

This is what my GF told me to use in the past for rashes on my ass (I sit all day, sometimes I get ass rashes, pimples, etc) Linkage The soothing relief baby stuff...
Sounds silly for a grown man to be using it, but it actually does work...
The dream cream does look similar but has more "stuff" in it...

I'm sure a lot of ppl out there have pimply asses, and they think it's ACNE. Well it isn't most likely, and the Aveeno Baby Diaper Rash cream will help them. It really does work!
You can thank Eris for leading me down this road btw... It doesn't take much...

a bit late... but hope this helps in the future
Dose yourself with deodorant There are effective commercial products that can help keep the urushiol oil from getting into your skin. But in a pinch, try what members of the U.S. Forestry Service have done before venturing into nature: Spray some deodorant on your arms and legs. According to some dermatologists, the active ingredient in deodorants, aluminum chlorohydrate, can prevent urishiol from irritating the skin.

Well I wear long sleeve t-shirts, work gloves & jeans...
I've only ever gotten the rash on my stomach, forearms & wrists...
Problem with more clothing is it's pretty hot & humid, it would be hard to work for the normal 6-8 hours out there like that...
I'd imagine I'd have to wear something less cloth-like & more rain-gear like to keep the oil from going through the cloathing... I'd probably die of dehydration as opposed to getting a rash, lol...
