Those amateurs trying to tell you this has been going on forever are idiots. Eve used to be very engaging in low sec. This type of lameness has evolved. Its worse now than it has ever been. Basically, a few jokers find a low sec point with high traffic and they sit and wait for weak ships. Its not much of a thrill for me personally. And I can't see why it appeals to anyone... other than the children who do play this game.
I mean quite honestly, if you are going to train for carrier, is that what you want to do? It's laughable to see what other's perceive as 'ownage'.
I think the devs in part are to blame, its their game and their design... they've had first hand watching it get worse, but haven't put in any real mechanics to stop it. It's prolly highest reason why the lose members. And to top it all off, they are forcing us to low sec... go figure. Its their way of reducing lag. Moving us to low sec, or losing subscribers by making them move to low sec.

did anyone actually finish reading my post or just stopped on the first paragraph when i said i lost my battleship????
Read it, fail to see anyhting wrong with this. They just used bigger ships to kill you. Who hasn't ever done that?
I'm sure if you would have seen a lone Hauler, your gang woulda popped it, even though your gang was larger, and ships were bigger. Guess what, that's what happened to you, they brought a big gang of bigger ships. Get over it.

first mistake: looking for a fair fight in low sec, go to 0.0 and get in on that action, you may find it a little less lame

Maybe try keeping your BSs aligned to warp in the future?... Granted, might be a problem with a BlasterRohk and PulseGeddeon (guessing that's what you had).. But that's the trade-off for using the close distance gankship..
Regardless, you got ganked.. It happens.. Getting smacked afterwards sucks, but that happens too.. Just give them props for a beautifully set-up and completely unfair gank.. It's really all you can do at the time..

Some of us prefer to crush our enemies. The challenge is for the enemies to fight back - compelling PvP hardly is what you get when people arbitrarily hold themselves back.

Solution: Don't fly 0.0 until you have a couple of Carriers.

There's no real "fairness" in EVE. It isn't really meant to be fair truth be told. You've got the freedom to make choices, but you also have the freedom to hurt other people's freedom. Anarchy... sucks don't it? Well, as long as I continue to kiss ass I won't have to worry. =D

Nature does not favour the fair, the honourable, the just. Machiavelli once said "Men will do evil unless they are forced to do otherwise".
Does it make for good game mechanics? I don't know. But it is an excellent tool for examining the result of a consequence-free society.

I disagree, in Eve there is no permanent death and as Machiavelli also said (Paraphrase): It is better to be feared than loved, but it is dangerous to be hated or held in contempt. (People really love to leave the last part of his quote off and REALLY hit the failures related to the last part of the quote when they just live by the first part)
Eve is a good tool to see what heaven will be like though (if you believe in one).

Originally by: Cowboy Nuggets I find it funny you say you were looking for a fair fight, then say "so there we sit on a gate", like you wouldnt have ganked any ship that happened to wonder through that gate. So you think it's all ok and great if you are the ganker, but are going to come cry on the forums when you are the one who is ganked. I think it's funny as all hell that they came and crapped all over your gate camp
Precisely. I'm not feeling any sympathy whatsoever for the OP, and that's after only reading his post.

Originally by: Lavinrac Krad I disagree, in Eve there is no permanent death
See, I would consider that to be the epitome of a consequence-free society. It totally removes the ultimate inhibition: fear of death. And witness the result. 20-on-1 gangbangs, suicide ganking, the endless stream of stupid escrow scams...the list goes on and on.
What I find most interesting is that if you were to poll the people in this game, it would be very surprising to discover any who exhibit this type of behaviour in real life.
So the question then becomes "Is it because they are inherently 'good', or because they fear the consequences?"
Originally by: Lavinrac Krad and as Machiavelli also said (Paraphrase): It is better to be feared than loved, but it is dangerous to be hated or held in contempt. (People really love to leave the last part of his quote off and REALLY hit the failures related to the last part of the quote when they just live by the first part)
Again, it all comes down to consequences (or lack thereof). In this case, being hated or held in contempt carries the consequence of...having more enemies? That seems more a bonus than a penalty.
Originally by: Lavinrac Krad Eve is a good tool to see what heaven will be like though (if you believe in one).
How could I call myself a nihilist and still believe in heaven?
Originally by: Lavinrac Krad --I'd also probably argue the only society without consequences is a society of one person, but that is really taking this thread off track more then it already is.
Which is really too bad, because it's a good topic for discussion.

no, we saw haulers earlier on but didn't touch them. what i wrote is that we have stopped in that system just because there were potential targets on scanner.

These guys are no worse than MC.
Again and again they have dumped 4-5 carriers and a mothership into the middle of an even, small fight.
Even numbers. Even ship types.
We asked them what the hell... as it was looking to be a good, even fight and we were bored and we got the same answer "you're the dead ones" "we're the *****s with ships"
Granted. Most of the smack came from their crappy pets in youwhat and axe but it was MC who opened the cyno and brought in the cavalry.
I respected them very much before this and still do, but this tainted my ideas of them as an alliance.

I don't remember so much bloody whining about getting ganked though.

Actually, he said that it's great to be loved. But that one shouldn't try to be loved; either you're a person whose character is lovable or you're not, and if you're not, then trying to make people like you only makes things worse. So it's safer to try to be feared, because it doesn't backfire as easily.

I don't understand that line, but I'd like to.
