I lost 256000sp after being podded when i undocked into a black screen of death.
Yeah yeah, shoulda had my clone up and all (my bad), but CCP refuses to reimburse me the SP because their bloody logs don't show any bugs. Do they really log how long i stayed on a black screen for?
Could they have logged it if it was a client side bug?
How can i get my SP back? I really don't wanna waste 5 days training, and at 6.5mil sp that's almost 5% of my SP lost.
Thanks for your help in advance fellas =)

I lost half of gallente cruiser 5 because I made a similar mistake (undocking without fresh clone)... 5 days isn't that bad. Take it as a lesson learned. Eve is a game of months, not minutes.

Why should you be reimbursed because you neglected to upgrade your clone?
Besides, 5 days is nothing.

uh yeah you didnt lose the sp to a bug, you lost it because you didnt keep your clone up to date, no for the most part client side crashes/hardware problems cannot be logged by the server
like the last guy said, lesson learned hopefully, keep your clone up to date

to quote myself, undocked into a 'black screen of death', i mean i sat there at my computer for 5 minutes waiting for it to do the whole entering space thing.
When i relogged my client, i was in my new clone, 256000 SP less.
Killmail of my pod in my mailbox.
Sorry i wasn't entirely clear in the OP

It does suck when that happens, but the fact remains that you didn't upgrade your clone. So what you have is a reimbursement petition of the ship you undocked with, not your lost skillpoints.

So in the same way, you're saying that if you don't insure your ship and it dies due to a bug, you shouldn't get that reimbursed either?
Why shouldn't i get my SP back? I lost them due to a bug.
If i'd been killed and podded and it hadn't been a bug i'd be annoyed at myself, not CCP

no, he's saying you could have prevented that sp loss, therefore it is your responsiblity, regardless of whether it was a bug that podded you or not
if you lose a ship to a bug, that loss is not preventable, therefore they reimburse, if you lose your pod to a bug, they may even reimburse the COST of the clone you had, but the sp loss was your own fault

The bottom line is not if it's your fault or not, but the fact that the server can't log this particular connection issue(among many other things). It's a technological hurdle that the MMORPG industry has to try to overcome. This means that there's no proof that you landed on a black screen (in CCP's pov), simply because the tools that is needed to monitor the situation doesn't exist yet. So until then we'll have to live with this kind of accidents; just like our grandparents drove in cars with no airbags, or seat belts. |

lets go over it a third time, you got podded because of a black screen of death, you lost skill points because YOU neglected to update your clone.
No logs were harmed in this post.

Read the OP, it was a 5 min black screen. That is a bug. You are not required to upgrade your clone/insure, and he lost his sp/pod to a bug. It is not his responsibility to upgrade his pod, its ccp's responsibility to make a lag free environment or reimburse him. But you need logs, that you can never got so, so that suxors.

The black screen itself didn't pod you, why's everyone accusing it? D:
And yeah, you should have had an updated clone... heh, heck, get one that'll last awhile, least by a week or so bare minimum. Also, I've ran into this issue before fair bit of times, not frequent or anything, just it's happened numerous times, and it does indeed suck.

Their logs don`t show crap. Petitioning is russian roulette and if you lost something to lag a freeze or simply lie to the GM doesn`t really matter. At the current state of eve support you either suck it up and recover or you leave the game. It`s sad but the truth.

Edited by: TTIGER on 16/06/2007 07:09:17 This is not the case all the time, i losted sp too when i podded myself to empire but i had a clone to cover to my sps or i was thinking i had .One of the problems is your skill points dont update realtime at character sheet until you switch to another one and if you set long skill to train you may pass your clone sp amounth ,problem is bigger for new palyers cause they buy possible cheapest clones.if you dont want something like this switch your skill to another one everyday ,lesson learned .Btw i losted electronics 5 ,what a pain for a raven pilot

'The black screen of death', is concidered a client side issue afaik. I've noticed myself that on some of the older PC's, it happens longer and/ore more often.

You win this thread.
You might wanna escalate it to a senior GM since they have advanced log searching skills. I re-petitioned something similar because there should have been logs about something. But that didn't work either.
It basically means logging bugs is bugged itself and it all boils down to chance. |

I got a fast rig and I can get out of the station very quickly, in Jita 4-4 its like any other station, undocking in the middle of a fleet battle maybe 15 seconds or less. So I would say it is a client issue. --------------

Not the fault of CCP, you failed to be vigilant and keep your clone up to date.
The blame rests with you and you alone.

I don't get it why everybody here seems to think it's the OP's fault.
If he hadn't had a black screen, he would not have been podded and he would not have lost skillpoints. period.
The clone that wasn't updated has nothing to do with it. Should CCP chose to reimburse the loss because of the black screen, they would restore everything like it was before the loss. That includes skillpoints as well.

The truth of it is that client side bugs aren't logged by the server, and they can't reimburse every claim of "bug!" that comes their way or no-one would ever lose anything.
Yes it sucks, but thats just the way of these things. --------

If you can prove that that it actually happened and it was an EVE related bug beyond the shadow of a doubt. I'm sure the GMs will take another look.
GMs must get loads of bogus reimbursement requests. How do we know that you're telling the truth? How do we know it wasn't a driver bug? The logs don't cover it so there are no grounds unfortunately. Harsh but that is the way it is. That's why you have to take measures to sa***uard your game experience. Update your clone and don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Not ideal but thats the way it is. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game three years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

During a war we had with privateers i got killed twice in jita in the black screen of death mod - both times got reimbursed cause there wasnt a thing i could do (and both times i was willing to fight, in a combat ship).
So, escalate it to a senior GM.

guys if its not shown in the logs its not a server bug but a client side screwup
I once lost my arazu (thank god I managed to save my covert ops cloak *(back then 90 million P/U :S) due to a game crash caused by a graphics glitch, the pos I warped to suddenly turned yellow (the shield that is) and a few secs later (when I was trying to get out of there) I crashed. My cloak went down and I was blasted to hell and back...
Your issue could just as well be due to your own PC making a mistake, and the ULEA clearly states that if NO EVIDENCE is found of a bug then there will be no reimbursement.
Finally: you forgot to update your clone
